2.
I'm ill. this sucks. and i'm being put though the torture of aled jones' voice.
Yeah, since my lad has been putting Chris Moyles on in the morning I Have to suffer Aled Jones' voice too. It says more sense than moyles but they both spout drivel
3.
That's not MK! It's that Robert Llewellyn chap off of that How's It Made show! Or Scrapheap Challenge (in days gone by)?...
Can't see it myself
4. Sounds good Mark. I like this stage of the process the antci.....pation just before the delivery My Ergon's due just after Christmas too. The bridge was delivered with fingerprints in the plating Rather poor QC from the bridge people, I must say. That will give me a few weeks familiarisation before our first gig next year. Your world tour doesn't include Cardiff then?
5.
Ah yes you can't beat a bit of the old "tricks with ping pong balls" to liven up a turn.
Oh yes ... I think he was aware of his international colleagues
6. Great gig. The trapeze stuff was good, the guy playing tunes and other tricks with ping pong balls was clever and funny, and the acrobats were hilarious. Punters got up and got down and we got a lot of nice comments on the punter schmoozing bit afterwards .. Hilarious comment of the evening: "Sure, setup on the stage and sound check, then take it all off so we can do the circus bits, then put it all back up. Is that OK?" Of course it is.
7.
Live shots are usually the best! If you wanna get people to see you with the bass, aint it best that they see you actually using the damn thing instead of posing on top of a hill or some crap! lol. Like has been said, Fish Eye lenses are great for shots like that. Make sure its a cool venue, not a local pub or something, looks a bit crap with a price list for carling in the background or a dartboard! and what ever you choose to do, use a proper SLR / DSLR camera!!
Here's a good example, IMHO
8.
Says it all, what a load of wa*k. Of all the places to do a PA with a bass guitar... OK he wants to hit the youth market, fair enough, but how many of them shop at Selfridges? Despite my respect for his playing and what he and the band have given to music, I can't help thinking he's a sad parody of what he used to be, and, arguably, what he should still be. Lte's face it, Squier are doing a far better job for almost half the price. I rate Flea as one of my major influences, but my message to him now is this; have the balls to show up at a decent music shop, avoid the corporate crap and hang with real musos and you might sleep better at night and make better music than has been the case recently (did you really enjoy playing the sh*t you put down on stadium Arcadium)? You've got enough cash not to need to rip off the most naive sector of the market with sh*t instruments, so get back to MM or Modulus and develop a decent instrument. I'd love the idea of the economy Flea Bass if it wasn't a) too expensive, apparently not very good, and c) marketed through w*nk shops like Selfridges. C
Well put, Chris. However the Fleabass is not aimed at the yoof market, It's aimed at well off parents ie Selfridges customers.
9. Sir you are well named for truly you do Skank and Delve.
10. Does he still have the circus?
11.
4 string caps are £15, 5 string are £20....
Ah no chance! Squier by Fender caps are £9 and Epiphone by Gibson caps are £11.50!
12. "Meet Flea of The Red Hot Chili Peppers on Thursday 17 December from 2pm until 3.30pm. Flea will be promoting his new line of bass guitars called Fleabass – signing the guitars and caps from the range" Hummmmm Not getting the sales numbers they hoped for then? I wonder how much the caps are .....
13. Oh well there you go.. The oldGit talks rubbish again Very glad to have been proved wrong mate
14. Yup "Fan" is definitely short for "Fanatic"
15.
Well basically, I need to take some promo pictures of me and my bass. I was just looking for a BC perspective on the subject. What catches your eye when you see a picture of a bassist (apart from the bass of course haha) and what do you feel makes you interested in finding out who that bassist is after seeing the picture Example The japanese dude who plays bass dressed as a woman in that video Answer (to me anyway) seen a dude dressed as a woman playing a bass and i thought i'd see if he was any good What do you think Bass Chat? Chris
What is it for? That determins the best thing to do. Is this website for you as an individual or part of a band site? That guy in the dress is funny and, great player that he is, I'd probably not call him first for a session.
16.
That's true. Although some things seem to escape criticism on here - Aguilar, Epifani and Bergantino spring to mind. Are they as perfect as the reviews suggest or has anyone tried and not liked?
I'd prefer it if my Bergantinos handles were recessed, as they are on the new ones, so my rack would sit on top better. Does that count?
17.
How much is that worth?
$2800, apparently...
18. How much is that worth?
19. These are slothead EB3L's.. It's the "Classical Guitar" style headstock
20.
Update; I've just spent two days in the studio recording with the Shuker and it sounded absolutely amazing - even the sound engineer commented how much he loved the sound. I used an Aguilar Tone Hammer and that's it - I'm chuffed and can't wait to hear the finished article.
Ohh I hope we get to hear it ..
21. Wednesday last: Visiting the in-laws in Bishops Stortford so popped into the Bishop's Blues Club jam night: http://www.bluesalive.co.uk/ I happened to have a bass (and earplugs) with me as last time the house bass player had a Stagg EUB and although I can play one I much prefer jamming on a bass guitar. This is a very different type of jam night from the ones I go to at home as the standard is very high and at the Bishop's you pay to get in, even if you are playing. And it's very loud. Lead musician is Eddy Angel, a top blues guitarist according to his Myspace. Brilliant player if a tad too loud in the mix. My stint came later on with a scratch band made up of a teenage guitarist/singer, another very young man on drums and an older guitarist. I was very happy to plug into the house rig (MB LMII and Schroeder 1212L SO nice not to have to use a TE rig!) with my trusty Japanese P bass. Cranked about twice as loud as I get to play with my band (or rig) I could play a lot more gently and yet still fill the sound out as a platform for the guitarists and vocals.. 3 tunes an about 20 minutes. The band gelled and cooked better than some actual bands I know who've who've rehearsed and gigged together so that was pleasing. I was leading the dynamics to add light and shade and the drummer was with me - a great feeling. Everyone had their ears on and was being equally supportive and sympathetic to what the others were doing. It was so refreshing. Chatting to John the house bass player it turns out he's Slobluesine on here ... Small world Didn't get to play my harmonica though ... maybe next time
22. Sold for £102! with a 4U rack and cables ... Local too ...
23. Paramore sound fairly mushy on their live videos on their website as well though .. However.. "Sem100 says: Which concert is this video from? Is it last night's Birmingham one? best gig ever!" So maybe there's more to teenage adoration than the sound None of these huge venues are any good for sound. Must be a real challenge for the sound crew. I saw level 42 in Cardiff St Davids hall. Sat right behind the sound desk and the sound was appalling. Likewise I was glad I didn't pay for the tickets but everyone else seemed to be enjoying it.
24. Yup lovely .. Even the mention of the ubquitous "Uncle" seems genuine
25. Best start the finger training process if you're going with a set of Jamersons. Had a set for a few weeks and it was like playing trussrods.....
