1.
I loved that 36 scale headless 5 string, it's got an amazing low 'B'. Just goes to show what a difference two extra inches make, although I did have trouble reaching that low C. Si, don't suppose you got any shots of Jase's (?) lovely fretless Wal?
Jason (Funk Sherriff) rather than Jase ... Sorry no, anyone else take any pictures?
 2. @@@ Stop Press @@@ All Gone, Thanks That nice Gareth from Hartke UK (Samson) gave us some boxes of strings for our bass bash attendees. Sadly the weather reduced the turnout somewhat so we have some strings left over, plus a bit of a deficit in the finances, so we are selling these off at a bargain price: £5 per set +£1 P+P. Cheapest available AFAIK is £20 for two sets on Ebay so this is a decent deal. So, for sale here are single sets of Hartke strings. [s]Lights are 45/65/80/105[/s] Meds are 50/70/85/105 They are 4 string sets, long scale. They will be posted without boxes unless you buy three sets. PM's with address please. Thanks OG
 3. I am pleased to report a dearth of mad slappin' at the South Wales Bass Bash yesterday. Perhaps everyone had read this thread ..
 4.
Looks like fun! If there's ever one of these notheld in the third world, I'd be well up for attending
ha ha yeah, you stay over there in conjestionland
 5. We do specify that we don't play any venue with a sound limiter, or a noise ASBO due to annoyed neighbours and the booking person confirms all that before we take the booking. However we've had two in the last few years where this seems to have slipped their mind. At one we knew more about the installation than the owner or manager of the venue and just went around it. It was on red all night, even when we weren't playing, just from the crowd laughing and clinking glasses ... The other one we ran off the kitchen but were told in no uncertain terms that is we did that again we'd "never play in this [s]town[/s] venue again" Last time we discussed this there was time of a time coming when all venues would need them for staff elfin' safety. i do hope that's gone away.

 7.
Yes, that's the one. But mine hasn't got any electronics and the usual aluminium bride/tailpiece is made of rosewood instead. BB
Post a pic?
 8.
Oooh! N I tried out that Shuker P - made the ground vibrate haha, should be an easy sell, built like a tank, wicked bridge on it!
Ha ha I should point out that some wag swapped my "For sale" and "Never for sale ever" signs between my Shuker P5 (never for sale!) and the P bass which is for sale Being "on reception" for most of the afternoon kept me out in the cold (hence the hat ) and away from the chat and action but I did get a go on a few things including Bassbots surpsingly delightful small bodied and short scale fretless Cherry Clifton wearing sexy black Roto nylons. Although I generally don't like short scale, small body basses or nylon covered strings this particular bass was really nice to play. If I had a big room full of dream things one of those would be in there. Did anyone get a picture? I think it's one of these Clifton Cherry Bass
 9. It was the Paul Young Album "Ne parlez" that made the general bass playing public aware of him, though I am sure he was around before. When "Wherever I lay my hat" jumped out of the radio and TOTP we all went "Wha???! What is that and who is that guy?" That was in 1983... The TOTP youtubes generally have idiot DJ's talking over the intro so here's a complete version. To my mind he took the Jaco fretless stuff and refined it for a more general audience.

 11. Yeah we don't play venues with those now.

 14. Thanks to all for coming out on such a dreadful day weatherwise, especially you guys who made it over from the mainland ... You made all the organising worth while I'll make a pictures thread ..

 16.
I wonder if the bass he is playing in this clip is 'the one'. I understand the tribute model to be a slab fingerboard jobie and the one featured shows a cambered board. 1962 was the year of the change (around June I believe) - anyone got any info to add, or is it simply a case that he has more than one 62 bass?
Nurt looks narrow too

 21.
Assuming it's OK with our earstwhile organisers, to add to the fundraising capacity, and generally add to the hilarity of the day, I will also bringing along a photo as the basis for a caption competition. Nothing grander than a bottle of beer for the winner other than having their contribution published on here! OG - what size do the avatar prints need to be?
Erstwhile? Not 'til 6pm tomorrow, mate Sure why not ... Do a new, post bash, thread on the subject? Bring your son the gig photographer along for some pro pictures? We might make Bass Guitar Magazine too Avatar should be big enough to see OK without invading your personal space You choose, you have to wear it Have you ever been to a meeting full of strange faces where the name tags are so small that you virtually have to snog the person to read their name? Well, that's what I'll be aiming to avoid. Plenty of space for snogging, of course, but it shoudln't be a condition of finding out who that person is

 23.
Original and best! I've owned mine for 30 years, and never, ever felt the urge to sell it. How many of you can say that about your fancy/exotic, 5 and 6 strings?
Well I'm never selling my exotic 5 string Shuker ................. Precision
 24.
As predicted I'm sorry to say
Get paid well?
 25. Just remembered another one a bit like that .. We are an English rocky Ceilidh/Barn Dance band. We play loudish and rockyish. We have a drum kit and electric everything. The trad diddly is often morphed into something distinctly non diddly like Paint it black or Bad moon rising .... So someone called us and asked about a Burns Night gig. (It says Ceilidh on our website, we must be Scots, right? Er no, actually.) We knew the venue and event and knew it was a regular traditional event for ex-pats, mostly. I re-iterated how we do things oh they'd seen us and they really wanted a change from the traditional accordion a fiddle in kilts band they normally had for Burns. No, really they did!. Did they really? Nah. At half time, after the Haggis bit with the piper in full regalia, a whole table ceremoniously got up and left. The rest had a good time but we determined to never play a Burns night, St Andrews night, St patrick's night or even St Georges night (yup we've been asked) ever again.
