On The Button,you Old Git,
ha ha Well having been through the whole thing about failing to wrap a bass according to non-disclosed guidelines only known to the claims department of the Royal Mail, who, of course reject every claim as a matter of course, I tend to look out for these things. Also any companies who are really Parcelforce pretending to be someone else. Parcleforce have an insurance limit of £150 for musical instruments that no one seems to know about, including the counter staff who happily sell you extra cover which is worthless.
-
And it has to be packed right "Musical Instruments must be shipped in recommended hardcases with padded lining, and then boxed if you don't want the case to become scratched. e.g A guitar being sent in a soft case will not be covered by insurance for damage."
Sorry to hear that matey
Yeah me too. Had fun over Christmas planning sets and brushing up on playing "space" and with playing with no treble. I like the advice to a newbie reggae bass player I found on TB: Use a huge rg turned way up loud but play really, really gently. Sounds good.

Well I'm depressed. The singer who started this chain of thought has to go and work in London for a year so it's all on hold Pooooooooo
-
They are talking about having an excemption for gigs below 100 people but most village halls and chuch halls that we play have a fire limit of about 150 so I've suggested this might be a more realistic threshold. That last 30 tickets can make the difference between a band gig or a disco ...

Lord Clement-Jones Private Members Bill to liberalise the Licensing Regime will have its First Reading in the House of Lords on January 15th. Coincidentally (!) the Department of Culture, Media, and Sport have launched a Public Consultation on plans to slightly relax Licensing for small gigs. Details are at http://www.culture.gov.uk/reference_librar...tions/6499.aspx You have until 26th March to respond. If you feel like making a submission yourself (and you should if you ever play gigs for Schools, Churches, fundraisers, etc) the more the merrier! For example you might want to lobby for the restriction on modest amplification to be removed. If you play in Village & Community halls you might want to remind DCMS that £21 for a Temporary Event Notice is far too expensive when you are fund raising in the present economic climate! Etc. Lets get our voices heard before small gigs get legislated to death. Thanks

Find a tutor and make sure you learn the dots and theory as well as playing. You'll be able to play all sorts of genres then. A year's tuition will accelerate your overall progress so that you get a long way in a relatively short period.
Bit of Dylan!
Yeah that Christmas one was brilliant In the modern and popular department: Chelsea Dagger I predict a Riot Ruby Ruby Ruby In the not so new department My new Slade record reminded me that they made some cracking pub rock stuff so Far far away (great bassline) Come on feel the noise Goodbye to Jane Mother Mother we are all Crazy now (sorry but I don't agree with Slade's spelling method ) Plus their version of "Darling be home soon" is good. In the very, very old but still good department check out Fish Fry by Tom Principato It's a version of Louis Jordan's Saturday night fish fry from the 40's but it's got a modern blues trio feel. That seems to fit what you have in your set currently.

Really liked it and wanted to get the band's tracks or CD but now I can't find it. Memory like a ... like a .... like a.... you know, one of those things you strain cabbage with... Anyway if that sounds like your band you may have a sale
Right, after reading all the views and having a think about it, here is the plan..... I`m gonna keep my Eden and have ordered one of these: When it comes I will just watch the volume and stick on my long lead and see how it sounds. After I thought about it, why should I mess around just to suit the singer and guitarist. They will still moan anyway! Cheers, Jez
Does that angle back so you can point the speakers at your head?
