1.
Thanks for the reply Orphius! That looks very nifty! Whilst there are some products on the market that could do what I wanted, they were either overkill (as in this case), or too expensive, or they needed additional bits to make it work. Anyway! The device is in the works. I'll keep you all informed as to its progress. Mark
Hi Mark Hows this going? OG
 2. Simples: Superglue a pick to your finger. Two problems soved in one stroke But seriously... Spray on plaster, Nurofen before you go on, use other fingers, use a pick or thumb where you can in the set to protect it Then if that tune is the grande finale just grit your teeth and play it. You can recover after.
 3. Royal Mail Special Delivery next day has an insurance limit of £2500 (and no hidden restrictions on musical instruments that I can find - of course they may be very well hidden ....)

It's their call but when I used to get the supports for the band way back when i was a member genre didn't matter as much as entertainment value and footfall
 6. My mates the Soul Destroyers are looking for a support act for their gig in the Globe on Sat 27 February. http://www.soul-destroyers.co.uk/ The deal is that the act gets tickets to sell and then they keep a chunk of the money. Ideally they need to sell 50+ tickets (and therefore get paid £100) .. It's a "no sales - no money" deal but they do get to play to a lot of potential fans as the Destroyers tend to sell a lot of tickets anyway... So do you fancy it or know anyone who might fit the bill? Thanks OG
 7.
So basically since I stopped having lessons I've stopped pushing myself and have pretty much become a lazy slob. I used to be willing to play almost anything, that's not to say I could play almost anything (far from it) but at least I'd try. But ever since, I'll find something I can't play and I'll just give up - and it's been really annoying me. Without going on a personal slating I find that I always get to a certain level (in anything, sport, music etc.) and then it's like I hit a wall and can't progress any further, no matter what I do. So basically this is a plea to anyone for some suggestions. I would really love to get back into playing bass again as I would give anything to be playing on a professional level (for the music, not the money) but simply don't have the motivation. I am mostly into all things heavy but when it comes to bass pretty much anything goes. So if anyone has any suggestions on what to do then that would be greatly appreciated. Cheers guys
If that is so it should be easy. Or do you mean you would give anything as long as someone else pushes you and gives you the motovation? If you do manage to get to a professional level you will be faced with a huge struggle every day just to get the work and enough to live on. If you don't have that drive now then you should probably look at doing something else for a living. Alternatively ..... Just stop doing anything else, get some lessons, get in a band and make that everything you do... Get a 5 year plan together, get a to do list, set some goals to achieve .....
 8.
Remains to be seen... probably pubs leading to functions. I think we have 5 songs rehearsed to date. No worries... another 5 next week :-) I'm now in two bands.... I'm not sure how that happened....
Ah, Ok so choose carefully. You really don't want a band name that will stop function bookers choosing you in a years time... And now for your wedding evening entertainment, it's "Phone box card Jeny"! yeah! Or as I mentioned, get going with one name then use another for the function marketing later on. Different audience, different market so two names and two lots of marketing will work..
 9.
Oddly - I quite like that
Yeah That was a bit of a ping moment for me too Grab it, Rabbit So what venues? Pubs or functions?
 10. Glasglowsticks
 11. I like the Wikipedia random method too Got to Wikipedia and on the left there's a "random article" button. Click on that and you get some great possible band names Here's a few I found Jamesia Ognéville Waldoboro Sweetbriar Ringed Antpipit Antpipit Battle of Bang Bo Homochira Prince Myshkin Myshkin The Dream of a Ridiculous Man

 15. Oh and there's loads of band name generators out there on the internetz Just google ..
 16. Best idea I've come across is to combine two words in an unlikly combination, maybe a colour. That way although you may use common words the combination will be unique. Eg Simply Red Blue Mondays Arctic Monkeys Kaiser Chiefs Of course you must choose a name that has not been used by any band you can find on Google, Bing, Yahoo search etc and myspace (as you will need to get the website urls for your chosen name, and the myspace. So, write a long list of adjectives and another long list of nouns and see what combinations work and that have not been used before. If you can also indicate the type of band you are in the name as well that will help but it's generally not essential (and incredibly hard to find one that's not been used) If your market is the weddng/functions/party market you need to keep it clean and professional. if you are playing pubs you can be a tad more raunchy (or , of course, have two names, one for pubs and one for weddings and functions) It's also a good idea if it's fairly short, say two four letter words, so it can be read from a poster by a passing person leaving a venue.... Funny/witty is good too if you have a sence of humour on stage. "New Tartan Covers" "Jane's Band" "Coverleaf" "Cover me I'm going in" "Duffers"
 17.
Aye, I like my mex deluxe. You shouldn't expect them to sound like a Precision OR a Jazz though. Although mine is more precision than jazz.
I'm confused .. Why don't P-J basses sound like a P bass when the P pickup is solo'd? Or was that just that particular pair of instruments. They are active, right? Is that it?
 18. That looks good - great that you cn test them without getting the batteries out. That would be especially good f you just know one of your pedals batteries is wonky but can't tell which one. A fast solution. I have several of these at home and in my gadget boxes £5 from maplins... http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?TabID=...O&U=Strat15
 19. Bloke on the Isle of Wight selling bass cabable of Mark King signature sound? Hum. I wonder......
 20.
i got a set of the fretfx side LED's a couple of years ago for my warwick, I dont use them very often i have to say, but theyre great!!!!
Sounds like a fair deal Sorry!
 21. You guys getting new stuff, can we have pictures when you get them fitted?
 22. I use Fret FX glowdotz on My Fender (and real LED's on my Shuker and my -ariving soon- Wood and Tronics.) The glowdotz are OK and glow for a bit on a totally dark stage (which is when you really need them) They are large white dots when not glowing so they make it easier to see the side markers anyway. Fender ones are tiny. I can just about feel them but they are not intrusive. Side LED are great. I love 'em to bits. Front LED's are for serious showmen only ...
 23.
That wouldn't have happened to a Steinberger.............
ha ha so true
 24.
Don't know wether you know but PForce only give£50 cover, they dropped it down from 150 about oct/nov time.like you say waste of time. just pack well , I have couriered loads of basses and unless they get nicked it's fine,
Not always ... [ Oh yeah! "Musical instruments will only be covered up to the maximum amount of inclusive compensation included with the service." So is that £50? I guess it means you can't buy the extra insurance.
 25.
And George Chisholm - that really threw me!
Ronnie Ross (Bari sax solo at the end of Walk on the Wild Side) Oh the fun of the session player's life
