1. We've certainly seen far worse jobs.
 2.
The way is look at is this, the landlord pays you to do a job just like you would pay someone to paint your house. you wouldn't expect them do what they want. you pay them to paint it how you want it.
Would you play your entire set a semi-tone down just because the landlord says so? Haha you don't have to answer, I'm just f*cking with the flaws in the basic concept of this argument. I think each situation should be dealt with on an individual basis and a bit of common sense should be used in every situation... especially when some premenstrual band member suggests packing up before you've even finished your set.
 3.
Bit morbid, this thread? Still, if I had the choice it would be Led Zep - Stairway to Heaven all eight minutes of it please ....
The problem with requesting stuff that's so iconic and so often heard is that the resultant connotations thereafter are not always considered. My step dad had Freebird played at his and for years afterwards the songs meaning had changed for me so drastically that I actually felt sad every time I heard what had hitherto been a favourite "rocking out" song.
 4.
That rings a bell. my girlfriends mum used to live in Aviemore (now in kemnay), just above the Chinese takeaway on the main road. I remember one night hearing some PJ coming from that cafe and there was a small crowd out on the street dancing. It must have been you. Sounded great. Sorry, back to the topic in hand.
Haha cheers. Hope we didn't wake you or anything. The thing with Aviemore though I think is that it is a holiday resort/tourist town so a degree of late night noise is accetable... I hope. And more pertinent to the thread, we were invited to go and play there, after someone saw us play here in Aberdeen. Got paid rather handsomely too I remember.
 5. Thought this was going to be an Eastenders thread.
 6. What a cheek. I wouldn't pay more than 90 grand for it.
 7. One of the most fun gigs I've ever done was with my Pearl Jam tribute. The venue was in a small high street café at night in Aviemore. We had a late start due to technical difficulties (the drummer had left half his kit some 100 miles down the road - so we had to scrounge some locally). It was literally packed out the door, people had to watch us through the front windows and were dancing out on the street. We played every song off our 25+ set list (I think we even had to play some twice, the night went on so long) with an acoustic break in the middle and some very drunk acoustic stuff at the end. It was a completely inappropriate venue (with a complete lack of power points)... but everyone had a great time. It just goes to show.
 8. Does it go away if you apply a bit of extra pressure on the string just behind the nut?
 9. RIP.
 10.
Yep but I fancy a change from hotwires, although they are reasonably priced
Not only that but they don't seem to colour your tone as the more expensive ones do. I have them on my Shuker.
 11. They do appear to be emerging as this years must-have-fad accessory. I'm sticking with something stomp-able though.
 12.
For quiet a while I have been using Roundwounds usually status Hotwires but i Fancy a change can anyone recommend a good Flatwound?
Have you considered Status Hotwire flats?... their certainly one of my favourites.
 13.
Yep - totally hold my hands up in surrender to that one, I should have been more genre aware. Ah. That'd be The Mouse and Shoecupboard Lordy - it's like the bl**dy % key all over again...
14.
But there are only a limited number of bands that will bring in punters and help to establish a pub as a successful music venue In my experience, there are very few complaints about noise from landlords who have a pub packed full of thirsty customers who have come to see the band!
Haha good point.
 15.
That was an extrapolation from something I said earlier along the lines of anyone can play loud. If volume is inherant to your musical genre\style then it's obviously being done for a specific reason. Playing at 'pub sensible' volumes in the sort of venues that you and your fellow band members play in would be equally as daft.
Yes, but you implied that we should be able to turn down and still present our specific sub-genre of the art-form with equal impact and feeling. Our sub-genre disregards that rule. Our aim is not to have our audience sitting with their heads tilted back, eyes shut, gently tapping their feet along with the "groove". That's a job for another band. You know that advert with Motörhead playing The Ace of Spades in a quiet pub? No one would really expect them to play like that would they. We feel our music requires the same verve... our target audience demands it. All that aside, the fact of the matter though is that 99% of the time our FOH is controlled buy the house sound-guy and yes, you'd be daft to book us for to play The Cat 'n' Whatever... night or day. Watch this, we'll get a booking for a small pub now. Is it our responsibility to turn the offer down?
 16.
Does anyone know how to cancel a post (before its posted) from the Quick reply box? At the moment the only way i can see to do it is to go in to More Reply Options and cancel from there. I know i can leave the page but i might find im replying to the wrong post/quote etc and so want to start over. Im probably missing something very obvious.
Ooh that's scary. I often get stuff out of my system in the quick reply box then don't bother clicking reply. I wonder if I have been posting too much of my inner grumpy old man recently?
 17. I think the blame falls fairly and squarely on the shoulders if whomever books the bands. They should have checked what they were likely to be getting in terms of volume as dictated by the terms of thier licence. It's almost too late once the band has started playing as the damage has more than likely already been done. I live in a residential area right next door to a pub who put on live acts. I have no beef with the bands themselves because I understand how you hardly ever turn down a gig, even in a pub where you set up in the corner type thing. But there are rules of what is socially acceptable and what is not. As a neighbourhood earlier this year, despite some of the neighbour's attempts to involve the noise abatement people and my own failed attempts to meet with the management face to face to talk about it, we were forced to take the problem straight to the licencing agency. The pub has now cut the frequency of such events but it us still an annoyance. The worst part being when smokers come out for a tab and leave the doors open. Their licence covers them for live music inside only.... they don't seem to care that we can hear it loud as f*** in our beds... then of course you've got an hour or two over-spill noise afterward (but that's a different story). Yes I moved to this house knowing that there was a pub next door... but back then it was a quiet sports pub. New management took over and decided to market it for a younger crowd. I play in a loud band, it is inherent to the high energy style we play, that's what our audience want to hear. I despise the allegations made earlier that by virtue of the volume we play at, that I am any less if a musician. I know many quiet bands who can't play worth a sh*t. We don't play pubs. We play venues with a stage and a sound guy.
 18. That's single coils for ya. You might get rid of it with some shielding.
 19.
Indeed, there's quite a few on here, as ou7shined says, that from their arse, speaketh.
Verily sire.
 20. It will alter the tone.... but it will be so slight that no one (even yourself) will probably ever detect a difference. That "luthier" who told you never to take the neck off... never have anything to do with him again. From his arse, he doth speak.
 21.
I just had my singer (Black female 30ish) thrust her iPhone under my nose saying have you heard this? It`s amazing... Was playing Comfortably Numb. She has no knowledge of this band at all I don`t know where to begin..
Tell her "yeah, that's their pop song - now check out there more seminal stuff"..... starting with The Great Gig In The Sky
 22.
Them Duncan pre-amps are heavily underrated, sweet stuff.
+1
 23.
....I already got an MEC jazz P/up - similar to those fitted to Warwicks - and an Artec MMstyle Humbucker (cheap off eBay) - how suitable are these and opinions on whether I should use these.. thanks in advance..
It's all well and good hearing what other people like with their setups but before you go shelling out on a pre (especially on the ones you are going to be recommended on here - already we have had about the 3 most expensive ones name-checked) I'd personally put those 2 pups in a bass together and work out first how well matched they are, then whether there are any characteristics you'd like to enhance or remove. Then ask your question.
 24. I always wanted Reef - Consideration but then I heard someone else got it and it kind of ruined it for me - the lyrics still have meaning to me so it's still under consideration I suppose. In a "we came from nothing only to return to nothing" vibe I'd like this.. but it might be a bit too heavy (musically) for some attendees.... This one is getting played for deffo for a moments reflection ... don't ask.
 25.
No worries, it made me go and do a quick test of mine. If I turn the amp up stupidly loud there's no hiss unless I roll the treble pot 3/4 to full (i.e. in between the centre notch and the top end). I never put this much treble on anyway hence why I never heard it before. The mini pots boost the level of the pickups according to Chris May (at 7.45 in this video: ). I was having a play with them (hence the quick cavity photo earlier) and the difference is quite subtle.
They appear to be more of a balance trim... so you have equalised sweep characteristics over your balance pot.
