1. OMG you are a tit.
2. You could try a bit of card or something in there.
3.
The other concerning thing is that someone less knowledgeable would not have noticed half if any of these problems and they would have got away with it.
Playing devil's advocate here. ...and awaiting the sh*t load of flak. Are we confusing "knowledgeable" with "overcritical". It seems that we are talking about a gap of less than a mil at the neck (which by the looks of it from that pic could be adjusted out by anyone with a screwdriver) and a serial number. The rest for the moment is conjecture... and even if it were true is the tone or playability compromised at all? £1500 is a lot to shell out on anything but in the grand scheme of things concerning bass, £1500 spent at a luthier will get you a lot closer to perfection than £1500 spent on a bass that came off a production line in a factory (however small or large).
4. Have you tried switch cleaner? Failing that, the main difference between your bought circuit and the SD one is how the tone controls are wired up. All I can suggest is that you try wire up yours that way.
5. Looks like Polytune had better get their usb upgrade sh*t together then.
6. Yep that SD diagram is slightly different from your loom. It looks complicated but really it is a very basic circuit. All you have to do is take your "hot" wire from each pup and hook it up to either side of the switch then take the "cold" (negative / earth) from each pup and earth them somewhere - the diagram shows it on both neck pot casing.... presumably this is for physical convenience. The free lugs on the volume pots (the ones with the red wires going to them) go to your output jack. Make sure your switch and pots are earthed to the body/bridge.
7.
Cheers guy's, I have pushed the string down as far as it will go on the tuner, between the nut and the tuner the string is just too high. Apologies I did mean the brisdge saddle. I'll take a pic but this one has me stumped!?
Yep pics will help. Is there not enough break angle after the bridge saddle, towards where the string end locks in?
8. Do you mean bridge saddle?
9. I personally would go for the HH.
10. Try here man. Before you order, check first to see if you require a mono or stereo socket.
11.
Personally I think Musicman have taken onboard quite a lot of good opinions and directions on their instruments. They don't seem afraid to produce some natural progressions of their designs (e.g. the dual humbucker versions of their instruments) as well as create some funky looking (I have mixed opinions on them) but stellar sounding instruments (e.g. like the Bongo or Big Al). However, I think they could do with lowering their prices to make them slightly more accessible. For something mass produced it shouldn't be THAT expensive to get a totally stock bass.....
Musicman basses (and guitars) are indeed factory produced but I think you maybe overestimate the scale of their operation. The phrase "mass produced" could perhaps be applied to their range over the years but they are still very much a "hands on" operation with subsequently greater overheads than truly mass produces pieces like Fender for example, hence the price. Quality not quantity.
12. I don't know about your pre Kurca, but does that mean those NJ5 SE's might be coming back onto the market?
13.
Finally managed to get some pics up of my '77 Stingray. Forgive the bad pics but they were the best that I could manage on my camera phone. I will get some better ones up once my wife finds some time and her camera!! Last pic shown the pre EB bass alongside the new Classic Stingray 5 that I have just bought. Having huge problems uploading images so used Photobucket and link is below. http://photobucket.com/stingraypics
Love the pic of them side by side.
14.
Is that the same one that was on a few weeks back? Or is someone making the habit of mutilating Rickys?? Someone fired from the rickenwaffle perhaps?
Tis the same.
15. Depending on condition £100-200.
16. Anything's possible. You could do it with a penknife if that's all you had. The first pic looks better imho though.
17.
I will be as I am waiting on a replacement for it which should be here next week. I'll try that out first and see how I get on before considering routing the body. I'll let you know when I get it
You're being very tight lipped about this replacement pup. If you're not going with the Lollar (you mad fool ), then I'm thinking Fralin or you're getting something custom wound. Hope it's the latter.
18.
He didn't exactly cherish any of them other than one Gibson that he used to put safe before smashing up something else moments later, +1 should of been a ripper.
This one got it's own back. http://www.youtube.c...1&v=u8oT9ag631Q
19. I'll bet he never went near it though. He'll have got one of his in house lackeys to knock it up under his name.
20. There already is a thread started about this.... it was a couple of years back so it's probably buried quit deep awaiting it's resurrection.
21.
...I agree that a Ripper would be a better sig bass,...
I thought that it was going to be a Ripper before I opened this thread. I really like the RD body shape but for me that style of headstock doesn't suit it at all.
22.
My quote was based you your "Maybe thats where I differ from "most members here" comment. Im not questioning you have integrity, i just dont know why you think others dont have it. Now that you have elaborated on the walk out then i can understand that its not as unprofessional as it sounded, and was probably the right thing to do as long as the Landlord was in agreement. I dont think you had mentioned the landlord's reaction or opinion before (its along thread so sorry if you have). I think this thread has gone on far to long, ive lost track of whats been said. Im glad you cleared up the walking out issue though.
I agree, it sounds a lot less pissy now that it first came across. BTW who's paying the painters?
23.
Leaving aside 'integrity' - which is a matter of subjectivity and therefore an unreliable universal indicator - might I suggest a practical alternative. Before unloading one's gear, one should establish the height of the stage. An inexpensive tape measure from a DIY store will suffice for this purpose. If the 'stage' is the same height as the surrounding area, it is likely that the audience is there for a quiet pint and will raise objections to excessive volume. Between zero altitude and about 90 cm, one can cautiously turn the wick up a little bit. Ah! I can feel that Rock and Roll coming on! Above 90cm, it is almost certain that one is in a 'music venue' and should feel free to exercise one's integrity by turning one's volume knob fully clockwise. Enjoy!
Luckily we are always booked by the latter.
24. Maybe get him to put a bit of a sparkle through it... just to set it apart from the other Black Ps.
