If that's what your intention was from the start, it would have been a lot less hassle just removing the whole fingerboard and fitting a fresh new one... might still be a good idea if your defret is just "ok so far".
Yes, the have dimarzio written horizontally in the bottom right corner unlike the new ones which have dimarzio written vertically. They are factory fitted. If you zoom in on my bridge pics, look carefully between the D-E string you can just about make it out - my bad for having a camera phone!
Thank you. PM'd -

I'd say that's probably a decent fixer upper... but I'd really like to see the back of the headstock before committing to see the extent of the damage and estimate how much of an invisible repair could be made. Very worth while attempting if it were a good neck in the first place. I still remember when the Fender experts on here used to say avoid 70's necks if possible... but that gem of information seems to have been forgotten now that they are considered vintage.
Fantastic piece of work buddy! i have recently built a 115 cab that looks amazing but have yet to put a speaker and a grill on but after seeing that im confident mine will be fine and you have persuaded me to build a 210 also. my current 410 Ashdown abm is heavy, off balanced and does my gk 10001rb2 no justice. bring on the custom!!
Funnily enough my next cab build is going to be a 1x15. I have the driver sat here already and I have one or two designs in mind but I'm just out of hospital for a big op which has resulted in all projects having to be postponed for a bit. I auditioned for my new band with a homemade bass into my LMII and this 2x10 cab and it blew the guys away. So that's it settled, this cab will be debuting very soon on a high profile stage up here mic'ed for the desk. If you go ahead and build one of these you'll be well happy with it mate.
I've been pretty damn activist in putting this forward for years, but of course there is a lot of resistance from 'musicians'! ...
Even the drummers? Booya! Thang-u very much I'm here all week. Merchandise in the foyer.

Definitely, compared to this one. Good luck man.
Well yeah - as it's a manfacturers forum you'd expect them to not be too enamoured with people doing that ....
There's lots they aren't too enamoured with. I'm a self confessed 2eq 'ray-phile and long standing member of the EB forum, so I know full well what goes on, what's tolerated and what's not. I find a forum where the lack of freedom to express views on the existence of other breeds of bass affects my strong sense of impartiality, subsequently I rarely if ever contribute. I am a fanboy... but not that much of a fanboy.
Just joined that Forum, looks quite good. I`ve just paid £680 for a `98 3-eq Stingray. Fair condition, a few battle scars, but I like that anyway - chances are if it had been pristine I wouldn`t have bought it.
Don't forget to tell them about your love of Fenders, they'll welcome you with open arms.
-
That's basically the reason I bought mine. Don't get me wrong they do get you a good Timmy C gritty sound (with a Stingray at least) and retain the warmth from your bass. But as I say these don't tend to offer you much more than "the Marshall" sound... which ain't a bad thing if that's all you need. They really do a fantastic job of dirtying up a guitar for that classic 70's sound though so if you intended to use it for both then yeah.
-
Bloody things are like busses, there's one for sale on here too. I have one in better nick than both... and in it's original box. To be honest I think there are better distortions to be found for bass. I use mine in conjunction with my Unibass (for the octave/guitar out channel) as the built in distortion is pants. It really does help make it sound more guitary.
I'm not a fan of the Thunderbird, but... I think that one looks quite cool!
I totally agree. The all over oiled finish makes it feel great too. And if you pick up a dink just steam it out and rub it back. But best of all, look at that bridge.
