1. A quick update for those interested. The bass arrived at mine today. I started knocking it together after I got the bairn of to sleep tonight. One hour's build time and a further hour setting up (truss rod's stiff) and farting about playing on it later and.... Tadah... I'm actually stunned at how nice it plays and sounds to be honest. Big fat neck like on her, almost like a '51 P RI. Needs a lot of remedial and cosmetic work to become one of my stable though. Watch this space. Thanks Steve. Will leave feedback.
2.
My single ported is awesome so this must be the nuts, would love em as a pair!
Mmmmm I'd love to pair it with my 104 front ported. Wrong time of year for me to be cab buying though. Bump for some other lucky beggar.
3. Welcome to the forum Rhys. Nice ad. Remember and stick you location up.
4. Hi Rhys. Forum rule state you must put up a price (as you did before the edit ). A mention of where you are would help too. (my pound is on somewhere in Wales ) Good luck mate.
5. Do your ass speakers retain any residual smell?
6.
There have been several items on here recently that were straight off ebay and re-sold at profit. That's all well and good, but if basschat becomes a marketplace for what is effectively professional trading, then I wonder about fees being more formalised.
There's a bass that has been changing hands on here for £350 a time. It was sold again recently and practically went straight on the bay for £500* and not advertised on here. I'm not saying it's wrong but it makes you wonder about the futility of those of us that err on the side of helping out fellow BCers sometimes. *btw it probably won't sell for this because it was naively hyped up in the FS thread on here as being worth a lot more... which is probably the reason it was purchased.
7.
I have some atonal apples and amplified heat and Pressed Rat's collection of dog legs and feet
Haha a blast from the past.
8.
I haven't had much problem selling here recently, but then again my stuff isn't high end. What bugs me is the unrealistic greedy pricing of some sellers. If I want to sell something for more than it's worth I will stick it on eBay with a 99p start, it almost always sells for over the going market rate. On Basschat I price between two thirds and three quarters of what I paid for it/its new price (whichever is the smaller amount) because it is not new and I have no right to expect a return on my investment, that was the risk I made when buying a new instrument, it really bugs me when people try to sell a used item for the same price you could get it new at an online shop, despite not having the benefits of a return policy or warranty. While it is not so much the case now that the forum has grown so much, I also think that in selling on Basschat there is a certain sense of helping people out to experience gear they otherwise would have no access to, by pricing slightly cheaper it helps things circulate and it all balances itself out eventually. This is why it annoys me when people try to sell used items for more than they paid for them, we can all see what the value of the item was and I would feel slightly dirty to purchase an item where the Basschat system has been abused by naked profiteering.
+1
9. Hold on guys. Have we got this embarrassingly wrong? Maybe NGH isn't making a poignant satirical statement after all, maybe he's just after selling a DVD.
10. I agree to a degree but it's worth mentioning that there was a boom in FT threads as a reaction to the "you must state a price rule" which was brought in to cut down on bidding wars. Sadly "FT" has now become the secret code for "I don't want to openly post a price, offers by PM please". (but that's a whole other thread)
11.
How long before someone creates an eBay account, hits BiN, doesn't pay & leaves him to sort out getting the sellers fees back? Oh & a bit of negative feedback in to the bargain.
I thought this was taking it too far to start with... but now he's put it up to 2K it would be sooooo worth it.
12.
Can we see some pics please?
Looks about right.
13. I'll take it.... once my diddly-squat sells.
14. Thanks, added to my watch list too.
15.
Buying and selling 2nd here is more or less cost neutral. Taking a loss of £20 or £30 is certainly cheaper than a day trip to London or wherever both in time and money. There is also the thrill of the chase
+1 But what bugs me is the countless "I paid ££ for it and I'd like to get that back." threads. Why aren't people happy to take a small hit seeing as they've used it and now posses the first hand experience/knowledge of owning it not to mention having notched up an extra owner to it's history? Bah humbug!
16. The Daleks made him do it. (reflection bottom pic )
17. Holy crap that's the bargain of the year right there.
18.
Cataloy to fill up a pup pocket?! Did you remove it and replace it with actual wood?
I don't see the point at this stage. It's as hard as any wood can ever be.... it may even add a quality to the tone. If it reacts badly with the nitro paint then I'll whip it out for sure.
19.
Nice one Rich. Reckon Gold is the way forward, Matt's Gibbie is looking absolutely amazing, and of course, you can rest happily in the knowledge that yours will be perfect having practiced on his Eude
Shhhh I actually have a mockup in gold too.
20.
I like the P-MM-P, partially because I want to know how the MM would sound in that position. Potential for boom and whump there, maybe?
It's exactly the same position as the G&L L1000. The inspiration for this build is to make my own Wunkay (L1000) with it\'s famed OMG setting but utilise the switch options available on the control plate with a bridge pup - similar to an L2000 but with a twist.
21.
Dude that's going to be one cool bass, going to be watching this one eagerly I personally am not a huge fan of the P pickup being mounted askew like that, reckon the other layouts are a but nicer. What are you thinking colour-wise or have you not got there yet?... Eude
I know what you mean Eu, I'm in 2 minds about it myself but it doesn't look as weird in the flesh. I'm going to go off and research it, someone is bound to have done it before. At the moment I'm planning on doing it the same gold that I'm doing Matt's Gibby in... but it is a feckin pain to get right. I saw Geezer Butler with a gold Lakland the other day which swayed me to put myself through the hassle again. Daphne Blue is a simpler possibility and Black is another viable yet boring consideration.
22. I quite like it in grungy sort of a way.
23. Sometimes if you move/shake just as the solder sets it will set without it's usual shine. A quick reheat and a wee feed of flux (fresh solder) will sort it. I don't know if that's what's happening to you too. Was it particularly cold where you were soldering?
24. My latest project nearly went down this route. But seriously, if you think about it any HS bass has 3 pups in it because inside that humbucker sits 2 very separate pups.... Does this thread mean your Danelectro is nearly here Matt?
25. So spurred on by the purchase of my 1980 vintage G&L L1000 earlier this year and my growing appreciation of the brand I started amassing G&L parts with the intention of building my own version... Here's the ingredients for this build. P bass body (likely a '78) 50th anniversary P neck G&L "branded" SB-2 bridge (a very lucky find) G&L SB-2 MFD split coil P pickup G&L L1500 MFD humbucker pickup G&L 1981 - L2000 control plate (extremely rare piece) Schaller BML tuners (coincidentally as used on early G&L basses) Here are a couple of mockups. I even considered.... Work done so far... The neck pocket had been mutilated by a previous owner when an old neck humbucker rout and pocket face had been filled back up.... with cataloy , so I have reconstructed the face and corrected the pocket width with maple veneers to a very exact fit with the 50th anniversary neck. Also all screw holes preliminarily glued and plugged.
