1.
Mine came uncut and now has only one V for it to sit. Is it a factory thing or has someone made the cuts them self?
Are you hungover Pete? Are they filed or not? It's easy to tell if someone has put grooves in themselves as it goes through the chrome.
 2. If you have pole pieces, make the strings line up with them as best as you can.
 3. JTUK you are on to your spuds here pal. This is a fan thread and no place for common sense or hypotheses. Clearly until you have played one your assumptions (right or wrong) will carry little weight. It's a shame that there are positive comments from guys who likewise have not played one but their assumptions are going unchallenged (as are some of the less well conceived anti-anti-comments) but there you go. I stuck my head above the parapet too but got no response to my post, presumably as I have first hand experience.... and maybe a less abrasive approach. The fact of the matter is that the Sue Ryder bass has become a bit of a phenomenon and if it weren't for the fact that they were on sale for £60 no one would have batted an eye at them. I don't think anyone who has admitted to owning one (my wee joke ) hasn't found at least one bad point about them then followed up with "but for £60 it ain't bad". Who among us will not defend our newly purchased bass to the death? Apart from a few crazy claims most people seem to know what they have and where it sits in the grand scheme of things. The scale of "playability" is not black and white - we all know that the punters at a gig haven't a scooby doo about basses. Is it not then reasonable to presume that even some of us players have cloth-ears too. From what we've seen at this end of the thread there is little point upsetting the apple cart during the honeymoon period and until critical mass has evened out and normality has resumed it's probably best to just stfu or follow the flock and go out and buy one..... or four. I've set a reminder in my phone to resurrect this thread in a years time. Get your facepalm smileys ready.
 4. Provided you don't remove material from the line of the neck to the bridge it won't noticeably affect the sound or the strength of the instrument. Losing body weight will increase neckdive but this can be countered to am extent by thoughtful placement if the rear strap button and lightweight tuners. I've just built a theme bass which weighs in at a stunning 6.6 lbs - the neckdive is stupid but somehow due to the overall lightweightness it doesn't matter when you are playing it.
 5.
Oh you have heard my drumming.
Can't possibly be any worse than mine.
 6. Sounds like a nice fella.
 7.
Check out BORIS/boris This looks like a reasonable set of parts.

The neck is a 3 piece one with the different wood down the centre. it has come away slightly about 6" down from the nut at the back. It dosent interfere with the playing of it, and i think if it was filled with strong wood filler it would be fine and would not go any worse.
You'd think. What a muckin fuppet.
 8. You should probably just send it back. If only for your piece of mind. That's a feck of a good price for all that work... especially in metallic paint. What work are they carrying out for a hundred squids?
 9.
If I saw that in my living room I'd put it straight in the loft.
10.
I think compared to the bottom of the line Squiers, its probably the same. Eg, a playable bass, but nothing amazing.....
I tried one. Having read this thread my expectations were on the high side (despite my suspicious of the emperor's new clothes). To me it sounded like a £60 bass and I lasted about 20 seconds on it before putting it down. It looked pretty but didn't even particularly sound like a P bass to me, just a bit ratty and uninspiring. If you are looking for value for money, there is far better sounding old Jap crap out there. I can only surmise from the exorbitant claims on here that it just goes to show what the general populous actually requires from a bass. I can't knock it though, as there's going to be a glut of nice used P bass upgrades on the market soon enough, which will be great news for us modders and builders.
 11. Definitely an old SB-1. Kinda like this. And the body is definitely G&L. See the wee dark dot on the back, in the heel of the lower horn? That's called it's birthmark by G&L us geeks - it's left over from the CNC stage in it's build. The back of the headstock has them too. I've never seen those odd infills between the neck and bridge before, I guess it could be a special run but my vote goes toward it being a home "improvement". The atypical way the finish has come away too suggests to me that it's had a home varnish job too as the thick nitro on these usually crazes quite dramatically if it's going to come off and doesn't really look like this.
 12. The Victory Artist that I recently did a restoration on for Neepheid has a painted headstock. edit : with lots of clear laquer on top.
 13.
One day you will try my #1 OLP, and I'll make sure I capture the moment.
I'd be too scared. It might make me want to sell my 'ray.
 14.
HERES a b2a active/passive bass in ex condition,anyone up for a trade
Y'know, when I shake my laptop that wee picture looks kinda ok.
 15.
Jesus they must be worth £450.
Depends what you think an OLP is worth.... oops speaking to the wrong guys here.
 16.
They're brilliant! As good as my OLPs!!!
Aye I know I've played one.
 17. That second pic has an Ecsher-esque quality to it. The Impossible Bass. Very cool but it needs a new p/g.
 18.
It's carrot juice on the nut, cabbage juice is for the bridge you damn fool... ...
Doh I'm always getting them 2 mixed up.
you don't need to glue the nut in. if as you say, the nut is well fitted, it should be held in place by itself+string tension.
Yep plus one, I don't glue them in on my homemade basses. But I have seen basses where the slot is so rubbish that you can actually move the nut side to side while still under full tension.
 19. mint
 20.
Ah, that would explain it Not sure whether to be pleased or pissed at the price comment?? All PMs up to date, and please note the edit to the OP, this bass has the sought after black epoxy preamp. As Me E might have said himself, YOWSER!!
Trust me, I'm sure whoever buys it will be very pleased with the price.
 21.
if you beg I could let you have one of mine
Wow. You're a real pal.
 22.
..Oh and Mr GunsFreddy I didn't get a PM from your very good self...
He fell over himself at the price and PM'd me by mistake. It confused the heck out of me because my 'ray isn't for sale.
 23. A tiny tiny spot of superglue would do (but not so much that you'll never get it out again) ..... some experts will be along soon to poo-poo that idea and tell you to squeeze cabbage juice over it.
