1. How old are your guitar leads?
 2.
Love Will Tear Us Apart and Blue Monday. Whether you like 'em or not doesn't make them any less recognisable. I'm not underestimating anything What I would say is that I find it endlessly frustrating how someone can be slammed for their perceived lack of technical 'ability' when the sum of it all equals music that has been so very influential. You might not be aware of of Joy Division or New Order's wider influence, in which case it's more likely that you're underestimating their impact on popular music. It's like saying that John Lennon wasn't a particularly talented pianist. You'd probably be right in saying so, but then his music was so fantastic that his piano skills pale in comparison to his prolific and highly acclaimed output. Peter Hook is never going to be up there with the likes of John Patitucci in terms of the level of skill he can bring to bass playing, but his contribution to his style of music is no less significant.
Haha when you said "most instantly recognisable bass lines of recent memory" I honestly didn't realise you were on about from 30 years a ago..... and he's being playing variations of that bass line ever since. It's hardly worth mentioning his contribution on Blue Monday as it's not the main synth part which I presume is the recognisable part you mention and not the few second of real bass. I'm not slamming him, I used to enjoy Hooky basslines when I was a kid and they still don't hack me off to the point of being unlistenable now but I can see them for what they are. I take issue when he's described as a musical genius though (there are are people that swoon over a pile of bricks being "art" - so what are you gonna do) from what I know of him, I'm sure if you spoke to him he'd be the first to agree that he can hardly play bass and was just in the right place at the right time.
 3.
I have had a little play with them and they feel either too far apart or too close together. Theres no way someone as cack-handed as me is gonna start filing away at it so i guess i might try a standard Fender bridge and go from there.
I know what you mean. On my one remaining bass with a BA (it's a BAIII with factory grooves) it feels a little like a compromise.
 4.
Threads like this always remind me of how unadventurous and if I'm honest, how close-minded people can be. As someone's already pointed out, the guy had a hand in Joy Division and New Order, and produced two of the most instantly recognisable bass lines of recent memory.
Which 2 is that then? (I'm not being sarcy - I honestly can't think what you mean right now)
He's an incredibly inventive bass player
He has a repetative style of playing the same 3 or 4 rising notes in a riff (as you can see from the OP). I think you may be overestimating his actual contribution to the world of music.
 5.
Just found the wire is actually 2 core with the ground wrapped around the white cable, like a jack lead. Doesn't look as sturdy as the usual arrangement but i'll solder wires to these as i may be swapping pups in and out a bit, the wire from this pup needs lengthening anyways.
Ah you beat me to it.
 6. Do they look like this?
 7.
Quick question: The EMG Select i have doesn't have a ground wire, just the white hot wire. There doesn't appear to be anywhere that a ground wire could have come from as these are sealed pups with only one hole that the white wire comes out of. Do i just solder this to the volume pot or what?...
Sounds bad. Have you got a pic?
emg active pups are internally grounded. whatever that means. basically they don't need to be string grounded, which eliminates the risk of electrocution. nice one. don't quite understand how they do it though.
Selects are passive.
 8.
Considering listing fees & time taken to list I have to ask was that really worth doing? Must be an in joke I'm not in on!?
I'm not 100% sure but I don't think you have to pay fees on an item that doesn't sell.
 9.
Yep - shows you the quality & like-new results you can get by attacking it with a Brillo pad! Jon.
Wirebrush and Dettol.
 10.
I think his user name says it all.
Haha I never saw that.
 11.
I think the only 2 bits that i don't like/would personally change. The order of the band members, I'd always put the singers first on it. Seems to make more sense than your current layout. The other is the black & white pictures on the home page. They all look like its YOUR band and everyone else are your band. If it were me, i'd make full use of the twins? and put them as the centre of the attention, as appose to a guy holding a bass. But thats just me The sites great though.
This is almost to a word what I though too. Nobody but us lot cares about the bass player.
 12. It's only bad because he was sitting down. If he was doing his "you can't get a fag paper between his bass and the floor" stance it would have been sick.
 13.
im gonna buy it.
Go for it. Everyone needs a "P-Bird" in their collection.
 14. How ebay has been redefined the term "good condition". linky
 15.
Yeah i think the poles protrude too far, i don't want to lower the pup any more as i like something chunky to rest my thumb on. Once i get the pup out and disassemble i'll see if i can gently tap the poles down......
You might not need to resort to such drastic measures there Steve. If you can get the covers off, use some material of your choice (I like heavy duty foamy double sided tap as it keeps the bobbin in place if it's loose) to pack the gap between the bobbin top and the cover thus reducing the amount of pole that sticks out the top.
 16. .... well just the ones I'm keeping. -> Linky
 17.
havn't bought the guitar, yet
18.
this is with a 6 string acoustic guitar, LOTS of differing opinions on this it seems anyone actually done it?
Why not just flip the nut (if you can), swap the strings and tell us. Aught to take no more than 10 minutes. I'll tell you now, the intonation will be out but if you just play open chords probably no one will notice.
 19.
+1 It started off as a good fun thread with people talking about their new bargain bass; how it plays, what it sounds like, what they might do to mod it , personalise it etc... quite innocuos really, as per the title 'Sue Ryder Bass Arrived' Just a pity it got derailed by a bored troll.
For some, it jumped the shark way before that.
 20.
it'll never work.
Pah! That's what they said about the Titanic.

 23. Yes... but if you only play open chords you might just get off with it. edit : You're talking about an acoustic bass aren't you. In which case - Yes... but if you only play up to the top 5 or 7 frets you might just get off with it.
 24. You can't record albums with them, just shingles.
