I sell quite a bit on eBay and use Evri for tracking, which eBay tracking does not support. This means that I will have to wait 14 days after an item is sold to be paid for it, making me seriously consider why I would use eBay at all.

@Dood have you had to reduce the input gain of the QC significantly to ensure the signal isn't hitting the compressor too hard? I have reduced the input threshold of the 1176 hugely to ensure it doesn't overcompress, but think maybe a pad on the QC input itself might be a more appropriate way to gain stage (particularly with active basses)
-
Been using the 1176 at the start of my chain (well, after HPF block) to smooth out the signal before it hits the OC2 block. Seems to work well, although I'm not quite sure that I'm using it correctly! The hard comp at the end is a nice idea but I'm just learning about gain staging at this point for all the different blocks, so may leave that one for the future!

Fairly new QC user here - what's everyone's favourite compressor for bass? Looking for an always-on mild compression (4:1 ratio, smoothing maybe 3-4db)

Beautiful...do you think that they make a bass version??

I hate it when you can't get your sausage roll out of the soundhole! -
Just received a pair of Ultimate Ears UE Live phones to replace a pair of JH Audio Roxannes (see my comments above for reasons behind this change!) First impressions (pun very much intended): - They are a lot smaller than the HUGE Roxannes which protruded quite a bit past my outer ear. UE Live are more flush and natural looking - as much as is possible anyway. They are super lightweight also. - I don't like the IPX cable. It's very tangly. Already spent way longer untangling than I ever did with JH 7 pin cable which was a beast to be fair. Also no memory wire on UE which might be interesting - I don't like the case - it's a bit small, would have preferred a larger option with hooks to attach the wound cable to - The sound is awesome! The Live model has a dynamic driver for the lows as well as the usual armatures (a bit similar to KZ!) Certainly not as much sub bass as the Roxannes but a lot of focused low end. Reminds me quite a bit of the UE11 which I used up until around 2019. There is a lot of detail in the mids and the highs are crisp but not overpowering. First gig with these babies is starting in around an hour! So will report back. Danny

I demo'ed the full UE range 2 weeks ago when choosing a new moulded set Very happy former user of UE11 for approx 6 years up until 2018 ish. I had gone in with the intention to buy the UE18 and was totally blown away by the UE Live set, which I eventually went with. In order I would rank the earphones: - UE Live - UE11 - UE18 The 11s have great bottom end but the dynamic driver in the UE Live makes them sound incredible!

Just a heads up - Ultimate Ears Black Friday sale is currently on until 2nd December. As an example - UE18s have been reduced from approx £1500 to approx £1200.

Is hotel room burglary really much of a problem nowadays? I don't see the issue really. Things would be much safer in a hotel room which requires keycard access (and also possibly lift access) than in a car on display for all to see.

Just a heads up - Ultimate Ears are having a Black Friday sale commencing the end of this week with some significant discounts on moulded and non-moulded IEMs. Hope this helps someone

I love the Aguilar vibe but the Bass control centred at 40hz is just too low to be usable in a live context IMO. A boost at that frequency is a real speaker cone killer. I would prefer something around 80hz.

I tried most and my flat of choice is La Bella Deep Talkin. I found Thomastiks to be too loose, tension-wise. 760FL or the slightly heavier 760FS La Bellas are just perfect for me.

Marc Rebillet at the Commodore Theatre, Vancouver. Entirely improvised looped electronic funk for 2 hours - absolute bliss!

He's good but his videos belie his abilities a bit - he prerecords everything in a studio then essentially mimes the parts in his videos. I would doubt his fluidity if he had to perform one of his basslines from start to finish, given the multitude of techniques he employs. Still a much better bassist than I will ever be!

Smashing, Gareth. Action needed raised a touch and pickup lowered on bass side for more consistency of output. The tone is great, I like the bridge and middle pickup combo which they say is like a Stingray but it very much has its own character. A touch of bass added on the pre and she's sounding sweet! I'm bringing her and the Cortex to Canada now for a tour so that'll be the first real road test of the new rig. Are you in the market for a Dingwall?

I had a particularly bad experience with JH Audio recently that I'd like to share. I dropped one of my Roxannes onto a table and the shell cracked, the faceplate (logo) section detaching from the main earphone. The drivers remained in place and unaffected, in fact it still sounds great even with half an earphone in your ear! I contacted JH to get a repair (reshell) and was told by their Service department that this is not something they offer at all. Apparently, the drivers are not serviceable and so cannot be removed from one shell and put into another. Long story short - the only option is to buy a complete new Roxanne earphone at half the RRP of a complete new set (over 1100 dollars). When I queried how this could be, given that the included 7 pin cable itself costs 250 dollars and the carbon fibre case another 200 dollars - therefore really reducing the total RRP for a complete set by 450 dollars in my eyes - my query was met with a cold 'take it or leave it' response. Sadly the earphones were 1 month outside the 2 year warranty. JH hold my digital ear impressions on file and I am now stuck with having to buy a complete new earphone if I want to continue using my Roxannes. I should also add that this is my third negative experience of JH in the slightly-over 2 years I have been their customer. The first one was that the carbon fibre case (200 dollars!) fell apart after only weeks of use. When I contacted them, they advised I glue it back together. Entirely unsatisfactory. The second negative experience is that the 7 pin cable (250 dollars!) failed around 1 year into use. I asked for a replacement as this was quite simply not good enough for a premium product and again wasn't assisted at all by their warranty or service department, and had to purchase a new one at full cost. Needless to say, my whole opinion of JH as a company has changed and I am currently pricing UE18s to use going forward. I should add that in every one of my three problems with JH, I gave them ample opportunity to correct the issue, which they had no interest in doing. Hugely disappointing but certainly not a novel tale, going by numerous other online forums. Sort of makes sense that they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year when you realise just how poor their after-sales service is.

IMO the ZAR is a much better earphone than the ZS10. To my ears - they have a nice rounded sound and really suit my needs as bassist and vocalist.

There might be studies that say it doesn't matter, but to my ears, front porting sounds much better and I have tested this extensively in real world environments.
