1. Both my MIJ jazzes have had their original pickups upgraded by their previous owners so I have no idea how one sounds 'out the box' but the quality of the build is fine so I would imagine as much effort went into the electronics and component parts?
2. My Thumb BO4
3. Im on my first P bass which is a lefty 57 RI and I fitted a gold pickguard and chrome covers because I love that vintage look. Playing-wise the covers are not an issue as I approach this bass differently to say a Jazz with its funky back pickup which screams for fingerstyle. I try and play to the bass. My old Gibson EBO only had a front humbucker at the neck and this developed a style of playing unique to that bass. I like the way the covers on a P take my playing and choice of bassline in a slightly different direction to not being there and the great thing is, you can take them off anytime.
4. I tried a righty Status but body was too big for me. I owned a Steinberger fretless L2 righty for a long time. My only headless bass. Flipped it over and played it upside down. I quite like small-bodied basses but I have ended up with a few Fenders but Im always changing gear these days as I dont play as much. Would love to be able get a Wal mkII and sell everything else.
5.
New ACG arrived this week, she is rather nice!
That is one crazy bass. Dont know where to start. Er...how you play it, hehe.
6.
Nice thumb bass bit like my old one is it the wenge neck
Bubinga body, wenge neck and ovangol fingerboard I think. Cracking Status collection. Never played a lefty.
7.
very nice... Identical to mine
In that case you must send me a photo :-)
8. While Im actually on a device that allows me to upload images I thought I would show off my '57 Fender P bass RI CIJ to anyone who missed it since the upgraded gold pickguard and chrome covers.
9. How about some bass porn....I mean photos of course.
10. Gave the Thumb a wax and rub today. Looking good.
11. My first fretless was a black Westone Thunder 1A. Great bass. Wish I still had it. This one looks fab. Never seen that pickup configuration on a Westone before. Did you mod it?
12. I'd love that bass if it were a lefty. *produces magic wand*
13. That is some line up. I have a '90's lefty Thumb BO 4 but really want a fretless NT 5 but just cant afford one. I like the small body but the sloping pickups are a pain. Quite a heavy sucker but most of the weight disappears when wearing the bass. I prefer to play it in passive mode too.
14. Ive never tried one. Wonder if they made lefties. Found a photo of Jaco playing a Guild Pilot fretless but couldnt upload it.
15. I have two '94 Fender Jazz MIJ basses and they have very notable differences with the same strings. I put this down to body wood, neck and string setup etc. One is definitely brighter sounding and other has better sustain. I am inclined to keep roundwounds on one and fit flatwounds on the other to make best of each bass characteristics.
16. EB2 auction has been ended early. Hmm....
17. There is an interesting lefty EB2 lookalike on ebay at the moment. Seller says its from China. Anyone know anything about the quality of these imports?
18. I saw The Police in 1982 then again in 2008. I saw Sting solo in 1986 and again in 2012. I would have to say that The Police gigs were far superior in terms of quality of songs and band sound but at last year's Sting show I had pretty much a close-up view of his effortless playing style and with Vinnie C on drums, it made an impressive backline.
19. Def my fave band of all time and the reason i picked bass. Soon as i heard Walking On The Moon, my brother's bass essentially became my bass.
20. I use a tiny Ashdown Tourbus 10. It is excellent for using headphones and has mini jack aux in for plugging in an ipod, whatever. I highly recommend it. Otherwise you could look out for a 2nd-hand Line 6 110. It is a 12" cube with a few amp models to choose from and loud enough for a quite band practice if drummer uses brushsticks. In fact there's one on ebay right now.
21. What about a vegemite option?
22. I would love this to be a lefty. Be all over it.
23. I put a r/h gold anodised pickguard on my '57 lefty p bass. Flipped it over as no bevel edge. Never seen an anodized jazz guard to compare.
