Just had another look under completed listings and isnt there. The guy did include a phone number so prob sold it private. Looked like a cool copy with correct logo etc and vintage Ricky parts. He had it up at £450. No idea whether that was a good deal.

    Didnt Hadge just pick up a Ricky? Maybe this copy would make a good gigging option if his real one is too precious to play live.

    Thanks for the info guys. I know with the brass ones you can simply unscrew the individual string adjusters out and reverse the order. This would be preferable.

    Ive been looking at a Warwick bass currently for sale. Thing is, Im a lefty and would need to turn the nut round. It has a plastic nut not a brass one. Can these be unscrewed and switched around?

    I meant for the Fender museum. They could also make an exact replica as the Jaco models currently offered are really just estimates from photographs. Jaco must be responsible for the jazz bass being the most popular bass out there. Almost everyone who is anyone in the bassworld cites him as an influence or inspiration. Trujillo did the right thing. A fan getting his hands on it and playing it. I doubt the Pastorius family will ever own it. There are several other Jaco basses out there that ordinary people seem to own with no legal objections yet we know most were probably stolen from Jaco in his latter fragile state. Cant wait for the documentary film being made to come out.

Anything that keeps the music of the 'greatest bass player in the world' alive is fine by me. Personally, Im amazed Fender didnt buy it considering what Jaco must have done for the sale of their basses.

Also a couole of holes didnt match up but this wasnt a problem to fix. The finish is matte on the flip side as opposed to the brushed finish on proper side but colour is good. Work was done at a guitar place in Glasgow.

    Spotted it. Quite like the colour. I would have the Squier 'classic vibe' precision model if they had bothered to make a lefty. The fiesta red '62 precision they make really is fab.

    Thanks LeftyJ, Hadge. What I did was just cosmetic but I suppose gives the bass a rarity value. Cant imagine many lefties around with that type of pickguard. The bass didnt need much setting up at all. I just tweaked the intonation and string height. The bass has a lovely even tone, not too bright. On a Precision style bass I tend to play using plectrum or thumb so flatwounds may be tried out at some point. Im pleased with the way it turned out.

[/quote] I'd also like a '62 re-issue in sunburst with rosewood neck. The gold anodised pickguard is from Fender. As far as Im aware they dont do a lefty version so before I bought it I asked a guitar workshop if they could flip it and fit it. The finish on the flip side is matte as opposed to the normal side which is brushed but still looks good. The guard was flippable because of the single ply flat edge metal . However, the workshop guy had to counter-sink the holes on the other side and slightly file around the pickup area to help it fit. Only one or two holes didnt match up when flipped so a little tweaking there as well. Will hope to fit a bridge cover plate soon.

Now my Japan '57 p bass is up and running I would have to say I think the sound is very old-school depending on the strings you fit. Some precisions are bright and I like that. Easy enough to boost the bass eq on the amp. Just put up some pics of mine. Cheers.

    Its quite straightforward. Just take your time. Tools needed will be a tuner and guitar cable; suitable screwdrivers and allen keys. Depending on the type of bass you have will determine the exact type of screwdriver and size of allen keys. The string height should be adjusted first. Play all the notes on each string as you adjust and best result is no buzzing on any of the frets. To adjust intonation use the tuner and press and play the 12th note of a string, followed by the harmonic on same fret.They both should be as close as possible to each other on the readout. To make them match up you will need to move the bridge saddles that the strings rest on, backwards or forwards. If there is a problem with the neck relief then this will require a truss-rod adjustment. This is best left to a guitar tech who would set bass up at same time. Hope this helps.
