Variax guitars and basses take their signal from individual piezo transducers under the bridge saddles. Any instrument with this same configuration would do, I should think. There is no use made of the 'normal' magnetic p/u. Retro-fitting a Variax bridge to another guitar or bass would probably be the simplest route, I'd suggest. Hope this helps...

It may be illustrated by an extreme, perhaps. It's difficult, without 'modelling', to have a nylon-strung classical guitar sound like a solid-body electric. A folk guitar..? Similar, but maybe closer. A 335..? It won't sound like a Strat. A Strat won't sound like a nylon-strung classical guitar, either. I play mostly arch-top guitars and basses; my vintage Verithin will never sound like our Cort 5-string, nor will my 335 copy sound like my thinline Xavière, etc. No problem; they all sound good, but different.

Your hands are telling you something. Listen to your hands. It's longer-term counter-productive to 'binge' in this way. Play for a while (a couple of hours is fine...), then rest (go for a walk, make a cuppa, read through the set list...) for half an hour or so, then back to practising. Slow is the new Fast, and is the quickest way of getting things done.

I wear glasses all the time (when not asleep in bed...), this since the age of about 12. Why the question..?

Line 6 Variax MIDI bass..? Or any MIDI-controller, nowadays. I sometimes use a Sonuus MIDI interface to play basson or cello lines on my bass. Is that not digital enough..?

This was our 'tour bus'... Public transport..? I don't think so...

As we play supplying all the gear (FOH, lights, monitors, backline, drums...), we need a van. I've scrapped our old 'tour bus' (beyond MOT...) and now hire a van, which we fill. No question of public transport here (there is none...).

Indeed; any kitchen 'Scotchbrite' pad will do the same job, or an india-rubber (eraser...). Once rust-free, it used to be custom to apply varnish (clear nail varnish..?) to the poles to prevent further tarnishing. Is it worth the bother..? Not to me, but...
