1. They'll certainly know how best to get it repaired, I reckon.
2. One has to understand that scales, harmony, chord tones are not the stuff of drummers on Day One. Our remit is rather those ' little dotted squiggles, the timing of the notes and the bar lines'; these are our 'meat and potatoes', so it seems almost inconceivable that anyone could approach reading music without this information being brought to the fore. Those that go on to percussion (vibraphones, or even timpani etc...) take on the melodic part, as would those playing other instruments (guitar, bass, keys etc...), or maybe with simply an academic interest (it's a fascinating subject, after all...). That's why the wry smile. reading music without comprehending the importance of the rhythmic information..? Heresy; pure heresy..! And us drummers are the daft ones, too..? Ha..!
3. There's a Richer Sounds in Cheltenham; I'd suggest taking it to them.
4. Welcome to my world..!
5. I'd just like to suggest that reading music and learning music theory are two different, complementary, skills. One may study one, or the other (or both, of course...), but it's not essential to combine them. In the same way, having even a deep knowledge of theory does not mean one can play an instrument at all..! The dog's whatsits would be to assimilate all, but that's not always possible. Anything is better than nothing, though, in any of these fields.
6. We have to presume that these are active monitors..? If that's the case, the second one has not suffered at all. Only one to get fixed, then..?
7. You're good for a visit to a repair centre for the monitors to get an estimate, I'd say. Put it down to experience and don't do that again once it's repaired.
8. Long-term comfort and hard-wearing connectors and cable come high on my list of features; I'm very happy with my Superlux HD669's. I've had 'em for a few years now; I was encouraged to give them a listen as I use a set of Superlux drum mics, with which I am also fully satisfied. I'm sure there are 'better' headsets, but, having less-than-perfect hearing, and a modest budget, I'll not be tempted by subjective claims, nor technical specs. One gets used to one's gear, whatever it is, anyway, so, as long as reasonable compensation is in play, for me, anything Very Good is good enough. I'm not much of a gear snob, either, so that helps. Yes, I endorse Superlux stuff.
9. I'm not sure that I should be excluded from the category, now you come to mention it.
10. http://youtu.be/D41AtOL0pnw Simply remove the 's' from the leading 'https'. (...and 'Well played, that man', too...)
11. It's true; my vst Ricky and my vst Jazz have very different 'snap' and 'punch'. I often wish that my vst double bass had a virtual bolt-on neck; I'm sure it would have made a world of difference. I'm not at all sure that any such difference can be heard in the audience, or by those listening to the records at home. Still, if it's important... (Strange folk, bassists, or, at least, some of 'em... )
12. It's Windows functionality. When one has several applications open at the same time, the keyboard combination of 'Alt - Tab' (hold down 'Alt' and then press 'Tab'...) will cycle through each application in turn, bringing them each to the fore. It's not often that I use it, as, being old, I don't tend to open loads of Windows at a time. It's handy, though, in some circumstances.
13. Dad and Bilbo are a bit suspect, too.
14. No, no, no..! It's just a missing comma; the phrase should have been: " that could be someone who loves jumping around and sticking their tongue out, to a shy but talented person standing very still doing their thing." It's all about context; have you no imagination..? (Isn't it outrageous that folks will pick up on just about any tiny flaw in grammar or punctuation; apostrophes, even. Very sad... ) ... ..
15. 'Tis my sole goal in life, to be just about as appreciated as your good self. I am fulfilled. Rock on..! (One day we'll show 'em, won't we..? What a day that'll be..! 50% equal votes shared between our sole master works. (Sounds of hands rubbed together in glee, and short, snorting chuckles...)...)
16. Hey..! Sarcasm..!
17. [Robert Robinson] Ah, but did you specify which Christmas, eh..? Now there's a thought..! (Taps side of nose, knowingly...) [/Robert Robinson]
18. And the joint winners are... Lord Sausage and The Boy..! [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167486] Here, then, are your Winner's Certificates (download and save as pdf file, then proudly print and frame...) ... ... which look like this (but bigger, of course..!)...
19. Maybe left-field, but I'd recommend practising with your eyes closed. Maybe tough at first, but it soon becomes natural, if one sticks at it. Just my tuppence-worth.
20. Better get your glasses filled, then; voting closes at midnight, tonight. That's MIDNIGHT, TONIGHT..! for the more distracted amongst us.
21.
...bass amps and speakers these days have far more in common with PA amplification in that they are very much more full-bandwidth amplification....
So much the better..! Is there not an increasing trend for guitarists to use a pre-amp/DI and go through FOH, with no back-line amp at all..? Sounds like an approach to that approach, to me..! A bit of modelling and, bingo..! As you've already mentioned, though, it can't do any harm at all to plug in and listen to the result. Dry, perhaps not so authentic, but with a bit of treatment, it may be quite satisfactory for home use.
