1. Avi14... I can't honestly say that there's a major difference between the Queen video and the previous two (Guetta and Blue Sky...). Tuning or intonation issues are much more noticeable that absolute sound quality, as is timing. I know that it's difficult, as a beginner, to have the 'polish' of an accomplished player; that can only come with time and practise. In your case, I'd suggest practising playing along to songs that you seem to like, but also 'wood-shedding', that's to say playing technical exercises from sheet music and method books, to a metronome. This will, if the method book is any good, improve your fluidity and confidence, your musical knowledge base and your playing technique; as a bonus it will (again, if the method is a good one...) improve your reading skills..! I'm assuming you've not got access to a real live bass tutor..? There, too, lies ample opportunity for development. I'd add, in passing, that I still find it slightly curious to choose play-alongs that have little bass in 'em..! As for the mic, could you give the make and model of both the mic itself and your sound card..? Just for curiosity's sake; I'd like to better understand how it works. S'not important; the essential thing is that it works..!
  2.
The mic is directly connected to my laptop via USB Sound Card
In that case, I would respectfully suggest that it's the sound card supplying the 'phantom power' that a condenser mic needs. Could be wrong, but I don't see how it could work at all otherwise. Just sayin'.
  3.
I do that all the time, very confusing if you are playing with a left handed guitarist, though. Or one using non-standard tuning. Or the ultimate nightmare, left handed AND weird tuning!
Yes, that's what the ears are for. ...
  4.
...I have recently joined a Country band by accident.
Oooh, I do so hate it when that happens. ...
  5.
...Even without the Phantom Power supply, the bass can now clearly be heard...
? ? ? Is this battery-powered, then..?
  6.
... Thanks in advance for your thoughts....
It'll work; I've used much lower spec than that (remember Pentiums..?), but will be quite throttled for lack of RAM, as you suggest. If the OS supports over 4 Gb (64-bit...), I'd recommend adding 8 Gb at least; no point going mad, though, as it'll never rival the i7 stuff. A Good Deal, especially for its price..! Run it into the ground, then upgrade later to a more powerful system. It'll definitely run Reaper et al, if you keep the reverb Vsts to a minimum.
  7.
...Let me know!
The link works. Nice amp and cab; good luck with the sale.
  8.
... As I say there's close and there's exact. Stay clear of the latter. They're often deluded.
This 'advice' is quite close to a 'control freak' mentality, too, I'd say..!
  9.
It is always my policy not to listen to other entries till mine is done...
Another reason for getting stuff done early; I can now listen and enjoy all the entries, as they come in, and see who's been [s]copying[/s] inspired by mine..!
  10.
Beautiful, for a moment I was Santiago whilst my Fatima awaited.
11.
i cant see the picture?!
Listen to the compositions, then; they'll conjure the picture up for you..! ... No, seriously; if you can't see the picture, we'll need to know what system you're using (PC, Mac, other..? OS..? Can you see other pictures..?) Tell us more...
  12. Good afternoon, Fluffytime, and ... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167528] Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  13. Here's mine, too, equally inspired by the beast's progression ... Inexorable (What goes up must come down...) ... Something of a tone poem, really, or atmospheric piece, rather than EDM. I was looking to create a sense of both the immediate and yet the eternal; the ephemera and the timeless. A touch of human in an insentient landscape, an incongruous passage past the immobile monuments. There's a couple of 'jokes' in there, too, in both the form (a pyramid waveform...) and the repeated rising and falling of both the 'melody' and the key; some may recognise the Circle of Fifths being once again abused. Incidentally, the scale used is not authentic Egyptian, despite its familiarity; it's really the Hungarian scale, which better serves my purposes, being symmetrical (the twelve semi-tones are spaced 1-3-1-2-1-3-1...), as is a pyramid..! Kontakt 'World Percussion' for the darbukas (playing in 7/4 and 4/4 time...), a Ruby acoustic bass, Kontakt Pearl piano, a snatch of Desert Song and some home-generated samples of oud snippets, all sanded down with some slightly complex desert winds, made up of three instances of the Wind module by Xoxos (Sounds Of Nature...). Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy.
  14. I thought Kanye West was a Glaswegian underground station near Partick.
  15. Quite definitely a duff site and a rotten test. It gave me a result of 'Under 25'..! I'll turn 67 in a few days (no cards, please, just postal orders...) and the tests that were done before I retired showed up what I already knew: very severe deafness, above that normal for my age..! My ears are 'shot' (a technical term...), as can be witnessed by those listening to my mixes for the Basschat Composition Challenge. Under 25..? Don't make me laff ('cos it hurts...)..! Rubbish, I say; rubbish.
  16. ... and a Rickenbacker bass..?

    Howdy.

Good evening, Cornetto, and ... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167528] Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.

  19.
How can I post a photo of the place here that I have on my mobile? Don't have access to a computer at the moment.
Does your mobile do web stuff..? If so, can you attach the photo as a file to a post here..? I'm not a mobile user, so may be barking up the wrong tree. Otherwise, you could send the photo by MMS (I think that's what it is...) to me (I'll PM a number if needed...), and I'll post it. Hope this helps.
  20.
You're right, of course, but free jazz doesn't give us the 50 pages we need. The Beatles vs. blues does.
Ah. In that case, Oasis. Or Jaco. No, on second (third..?) thoughts, Mark King, whoever he is. What, exactly, is a 'P' bass, anyway..?
  21. Good evening, flaxholmelis, and ... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167528] Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. 'Late starter', eh..? Maybe beyond youthful fugue, but maybe it's made up for in wisdom, no..?
  22.
Why is no-one in your band capable or willing to write songs? Songwriting is a skill just like learning to play your instrument(s). You get better by practicing doing it. Everyone in your band has learnt to be able to play at least one instrument (and AFAICS Dad3353 can play at least 2) so why don't you want to spend a little time working on songwriting? Because if you were songwriters you would know that there is very little more special or magical than someone coming up to you after a gig and saying how much they enjoyed the songs that you have written.
Our eldest writes and records stuff; we've quite a decent mini-studio here. It's more in the vein of 'Pierre Boulez meets NIN', though, and not much use for the modest five-piece that we are. In my entire life, I've written three or four 'songs', and re-written a couple from memory of bands I played with in the UK, long defunct. These, too, are not the material that our formation would be interested in playing (I've tried; peine perdue..! ), being in a pseudo 'jazz-bossa' vein that brings our lads out in spots (they've heard me playing 'em ever since they were born; maybe before..! ) If you want a taste of my own compositional 'skills', I would refer you to my entries in the Basschat Composition Challenge most months; I've a Soundcloud where they (and more...) are free for anyone to listen to, including several especially created for integrating into RPG video games I have done which pleased some. You'll maybe understand better exactly why we play covers for lack of adequate home-grown repertoire suitable for pubs, clubs and/or concerts..!
  23.
Be a jam band...
I tried that, but it didn't work. It was always 'jam tomorrow'; never 'jam today'.
