Often enough I can prepare the winner's Certificate slightly in advance; this evening it doesn't look as if that's going to be the case. Sorry, then, folks, if there's a shortish delay between the stroke of midnight and the presentation to the winner(s...). Sigh..!

Rickenbacker Bass Gets Outed For What It Is
Dad3353 replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
...They are an iconic looking bass...
A full-size photo pinned to the wall could scratch that itch, perhaps..? -
Could a mixer connect to the interface works?
It would work, but the mix would be fixed, once the recording is finished. No re-mix afterwards, as it would now be only stereo, and no removing 'flubs' after the event. In passing, I'd suggest that one can achieve excellent drum recordings with only one mic, or two. Is this for recording for your personal use, or to take on recording of other folks..? That might change the vision of what's best.

Metal and classical together - any thoughts
Dad3353 replied to dmccombe7's topic in General Discussion
To answer the original question, technically, it's impressive. Musically, it's empty. Imho, of course.
This could be said of pretty well any musical genre, and beyond, if we want to include sculpture, architecture, water-colours... A lot of 'metal' is also, perhaps, technically impressive but bereft of substance, as is a fair amount of 'classical' music, or 'jazz', or 'pop' or ... -
I would see this as being more like a full-time job, with a salary to match. There is a difference in approach between taking one's garden shears and clipping the hedge of a week-end, and doing it day in, day out as a professional council gardener, or changing the oil on one's car and being a garage mechanic. Four hours per stint is quite do-able, and the final salary, whilst not being enough to afford a Bentley (other high-cost cars are available...), it would certainly pay the rent for many. It's work, not just 'fun' for a night out. Would I do it..? Back then, I played for much longer for much less pay than that, and my playing improved no end as a consequence. Would I do it today..? Would that I could (physically...), but if I were young and fit again, I'd certainly give it a go. There are some here bemoaning the lack of live music. Well, here's an opportunity to redress that, in part. Just my tuppence-worth.
Due to my cars handbrake being made of sponge. £350 plus postage price reduction
It may be judicious to put the price in the title of the ad..? This may be accessed by editing your original, first, post, using the Full Editor. Folks would then see the current price straight away. Just sayin'; hope this helps. -

Good afternoon, Nothingman (..?), and ... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167528] Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. Welcome back. I've 'Reported' your post, asking if a Mega-God could come down from the Giddy Heights and change your User Name (I'm guessing '...nam' should become '...man'..?). We'll see what transpires; don't be alarmed by the accompanying clap of thunder, that 's just them showing off.
I liked the play of the day, sometimes brought to notice things I'd missed on first listen. Still waiting for my back-reviews, when you feel up to it
Be careful for what you wish ... PM sent.

My fundamental limitation is my health, which prevents me from playing 'live' most of my compositions. I'm a drummer (or rather, was, nowadays... ), so have few qualms in being able to get that part sorted. My bass and guitar are (were..?) at least reasonable, and some of my offerings in the past have been played 'live', so it can be done, often enough. My keys are rather poor, but I can do things in slow tempos, or double 'em up for more complex chords. The real bugger is the orchestral instruments, as that is what usually springs into my mind, depending on the picture. Even if I had access to trombones and baritone saxes, the racket produced would be worse still than Lenny..! Once I get an idea, though, it usually 'flows' until I stop, often many hours later. A short break for tea or a glass of milk and it's back to the PC whilst I can. As above, I get it all down, then leave it for a few days; when I listen back I, too, sometimes wonder who the heck did all that (and why..!). Occasionally I'll find something that needs tweaking in the mix, or a passage that grates, and so render a new version to be uploaded, but it's rare. Maybe I'm just easily pleased..! Ideally, I'd like to be able to play more 'real' instruments, and hope to do so; until then, I'll do what I can from my 'pica' studio (my armchair...) and watch the votes roll in. To be honest, I do allow myself a touch of frustration when an superb interplay between a subtle drum part and a great bass line go un-remarked, but I'm sure all of us have these same feelings. That was one of the reasons for doing my 'Play Of The Day' posts; to give some recognition to all who took the time and trouble to enter, only to be greeted with what sometimes felt like stony silence. I'll really try to push myself and start that up again. Next month, I promise (if I can... ).
I literally couldn't play for a solid 4hrs without a break even when i was younger...
I've mentioned this before; in the bands I was drumming for on arriving in France, mid-'70s, the 'standard' gig was 21h00-02h00, sometimes an hours or so longer, variety dance music, continuous, with no break. All the players could skive off for a number or two during the evening except for the drummer (me..!), who has to assure the beat for the dance floor. I would have trouble doing that these day, but at the time it just gets done, and makes one quite 'economical' in one's efforts. It's not a problem, playing for several hours; one gets very used to it, and it certainly makes for becoming a better player..!

Is there another Bass Selling Market better than BassChat.?
Dad3353 replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
It just goes to show how different we all are. In my entire life, I've only ever put in ads for two items (a couple of PC sound cards I'd received in error, and a now redundant RC system, both on 'LeBonCoin', the equivalent of Gumtree...). If neither had been bought, I'd have been just as happy. I'd never even consider selling any of my gear; all was bought (mostly second-hand...) exactly because I wanted it, and still do..! It's true that I've bought a few items from ads in the BC Marketplace, but I certainly don't consider it to be, for me, a major feature; in fact, if I wasn't a Mod there, I'd probably never see any ads at all (and miss out on the few purchases I've made there..!)..! Just not the 'commercial' type, I suppose..! -
That's a tough break (no pun intended... ). If it was broken by the transporter, claim from them; if you only get £100, it's still worthwhile. The typical headstock snap of a Les Paul (and a few other Gibsons...) is an easy fix for a decent luthier. It shouldn't cost much, and will be stronger than the original wood. If the buyer is happy to do that, I'd use the courier money to pay for a repair; if not, get it back, get it fixed and sell it again. Stuff happens, and it's not good, but that's part of the risks in life, I suppose. Hope this helps.
Arrested doesn't mean convicted and jailed for wanton destruction and criminal damge, though i hope thats how it ends up
'Arrested' as there's (presumably...) a presumption of guilt; the conviction and eventual jail may follow on from a court case, where all the salient facts are brought forward, and a 'guilty' verdict found. It' a bit presumptuous to anticipate this; there may be other explanations. (Not saying that there are, but we know nothing more than that simple, succinct news story...). Just sayin'.
Aye. Its strange that sound guys almost insist on a ported head on the BD "So they can get the sound of the drum", then make it sound like an electronic dance pulse.
... and get sent away, as far as I'm concerned. The sound of my drums come from the resonant heads, not from any port, tuned or otherwise. Deal with it.
