Rose-tinted rear mirror..? I can certainly remember, 'back then', seeing loads of bands with questionable 'musicianship', but with a gimmick, or hype, or some sort of non-musical 'feature' that got them noticed. Were there good musicians too..? Certainly, but not at the top of the tree. Some names..? OK. Soft Machine. Top music; little impact. Matching Mole, idem. Duff music that got attention..? Crazy World Of Arthur Brown..? Status Quo..? Bay City Rollers..? Some that had both music and appeal..? Cream..? Fairport Convention..? Is it different today..? I doubt it, although I'm no longer 'following' today's trends, so...

Difficult call, really, without knowing your interests. Maybe dip in for a page or two of each subject that takes your fancy, and hope to be agreeably surprised..? There are few duff ones, anyway, so you'll not be risking much. There are those contributors whose style may seem abrasive on occasion, but much is banter and good humour, so stay any ill judgement until you get to know folks a bit better. Other than that, just jump right in; the water's lovely..!

Allow me to politely disagree. Much of the attraction is in the event itself, not the display of wares (although it may not harm to have professional graphics...). 'Home-made' does not have to be totally bad, nor totally polished, I'd say. Certainly, some may be put off by really bad 'artwork', but if the only option is ordering five hundred (and having four fifty unsold...), it's worth a punt. It's worked for bands here in France; I know of several that 'brew' their own, and have done myself, on a very modest scale. And 'No, I don't think you'd like my 'artwork', either..!'

An anecdote..? I was about eight or nine; some school chums came to our house to invite me out to play. My Mum answered the door; I was just behind her. 'Can Doug come out to play, please..?' piped up one of the bunch. 'His name is Douglas.' said my Mum, in a suitably cold voice, and shut the door firmly. Little wonder that I was seldom visited after that..! Just sayin'; I've been called much worse since..!
