  1. In our band, I play drums and the singer/vocalist plays percussion (claves, cowbell...) and vocalises the trombone solo for 'Beds are burning'.
  2. ... and the percussion is played by the drummer..!
  3. Not so different to this ... Disclaimer: I couldn't listen to either all the way through...
  4. Snap..! The coloured cord end goes to the console; yellow for Xlr, red for jacks and blue for speaker cable. I've the same PA cables for over fifteen years, thanks to knowing which are mine. I, too, fit thin velcro loops for keeping the cables coiled up neatly. S'easy, really; now even our singer knows how and what to plug in where, and how to tidy 'em up afterwards. Result..!
  5. ... or just the two of 'em ...
  6. Hence the sensible choice of playing 6-stringers.
  7. I'm not a db player, but according to their web site, those are synthetic core strings, and so won't be picked up by a magnetic pick-up. Here's their web page ... Evah Pirazzi strings ... I hope I'm wrong.
  8. ... as one does. ...
  9. Wow..! A first, for me; a real, live, 'Bootsy' solo..! Wow..! It's my fault, I suppose; I thought he was good, from all the spiel I'd read. Never mind, I'll know better next time (except there'll be no next time. Once is far more than enough...).
  10. I'd add a few more, but I've run out of material.
  11. If you're comfortable playing those standards on that instrument, there's no reason to refuse you, especially if you're eager to learn even more (learning is what Conservatory is for, after all...). Our youngest plays a similar bass (has done almost from the 'off'...), and is entirely at ease with it. You'll be fine, if you're not of a nervous disposition. Just play as you normally would at home, relaxed and confident. The fingers will do the rest. Knock 'em dead..!
  12. From the Barefaced site ... 25.5" high x 19.5" wide x 13.5" deep ( 64cm x 48cm x 34cm...) The Compact is 15" (It's the Midget that's 12"...) Hope this helps; good luck with the sale.
  13. Try Percussion = Percussionist..?
  14. Sorry, I shouldn't have posted that. Too late; the needle and the damage done.
  15. You've cottoned on quickly; well done.
  16. To be fair, one does tend to say 'opera singer', not 'opera vocalist', so real talent is recognised, when it manifests itself.
  17. I call our singer Stéphane. Now there, you have a point. Your 'singing' is, indeed, something else. My eyes moisten at the mere thought.
  18. If this is the total extent of your issues with modern times, you're doing very well; I shall shed no tears. ...
  19. The terms are not mutually exclusive, surely..? A singer is a vocalist, and a singer, and a musician, and a [insert epithet of choice...] all at the same time, no..?
  20. Happy to oblige, courtesy of the OED ... vocalist NOUN A singer, typically one who regularly performs with a jazz or pop group. ... Hope this helps.
  21. He's not alone. (Well, maybe not 'hated', that's a bit strong, but I sure ain't gonna play it again ...)
  22. I've always liked Erroll Garner's 'Misty', and am still working on it; have been for a few decades, now. One day, maybe... Good luck with the audition; the French use the 'mot de Cambronne' for these occasions. The British say 'Break a leg'.
  23. Then you might appreciate this from the master Casady (let it build up; it's worth it...)...
  24. What a delightful rhyme..! You're such an angel for having posted that.
