Good evening, SJ , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.

I, for one, am in complete ignorance. Luckily, I don't bid on brown paper parcels.

Adding orchestras to classic recordings - Motown now!
Dad3353 replied to casapete's topic in General Discussion
Why is this an issue..? Over decades, popular tunes have been re-worked, often as 'lift musack'. It does nothing, as far as I can see, to degrade the originals, and if one doesn't want to buy the stuff... Just refrain, no..? There must be a market somewhere for it, so it pleases someone. What does it take away..? Not my cuppa, certainly (but I'm not an unconditional of BH either...). How many 'jazzed up' versions of 'Yesterday' are there, or 'Eleanor Rigby'..? Is no re-working ever allowed..? What about the synth versions of Bach..? No good either..? More is more, isn't it, and adds to the world's music, whilst removing nothing. What's the beef..?- 33 replies

Yes indeed, I really hate it when that happens.

Good afternoon, Damian , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. GAS..? 'Gear Acquisition Syndrome FRFR..? 'Full Range, Flat Response' cabs, usually powered, often used as PA for FOH (Front Of House...) NAD..? 'New Amp Day', when one's new toy arrives, as you may shortly find out. A short appreciation posting is mandatory, even if only a brief 'Yay..!' Hope this helps.

Mmm... Tea..!

Apart from the inhuman 'getting out of bed' aspect, it sounds just wonderful, and nicely depicted. Well done; keep on keeping on like that. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the 'heads up'. Lille would be really stretching things too far, but Paris could be do-able (500 Km round trip, though...) I'll pencil it in, but look for getting dates for Le Mans, Rennes, Alençon or Laval whilst you're over here..?

Be very careful here, then ...

See here; read all of it, from top to bottom ... Log In Trouble ...
-
T'wouldn't happen here. Any log in trouble gets our immediate and full attention, and the case is swiftly closed, to the satisfaction of everyone. It wouldn't do to have such a topic hanging around for too long.

I'm aware that the World has changed quite a bit, and will continue to do so, but when I started playing (mid-'60s...), the objective for us, as a group, was to write songs and/or adapt other's material to our format, and put on a concert. Our means were more than modest (I was the only one with a salaried job, for instance...), and we weren't looking to 'play out' every week-end at all. We begged, borrowed or 'acquired' a hall to play in, organised flyers and posters and put on a show. OK, it was modest (No; make that 'very modest'...), but, as our expectations were low, we were never disappointed. Obviously there was no notion of 'making money'; just the satisfaction of playing to a moderate audience of mates, neighbours, whomsoever... was enough, and one heck of a buzz when we finished our set(s) to enthusiastic applause. It's true also that my mentality at the time (and, to an extent, still is...) is more akin to 'Just William' than Beyoncé (I think that's spelt right..?), but I've participated since in similar ventures, some more long-lasting than others. But for advancing years and retreating health, I'd still be doing stuff of the sort. S'a matter of wanting to, really; it's not difficult. Just sayin'.

Just for balance... Several years ago now, I saw an ad (not on BC...) for a Hiwatt amp I was keen on. Isn't it always the way; I didn't have the £600 asking price. The amp was in Kingston-on-Thames; I'm in France. Not deterred, I asked the seller if I could buy it, but pay in instalments, 3 x £200. To my surprise, he agreed. I paid using Paypal (not into his account, but his father's...), and three month's later, with Our Youngest, took the ferry to Portsmouth, then train to Basingstoke, from where my elder brother drove us to Kingston to collect it. Uber-heavy, in a new flight case, it almost had to be crow-barred into the boot of the Jaguar. Some folks can be trusted; some folks are trusting. It may be rare, but sometimes the two go together. The amp (DR205...) is now our principal bass amp. A Good Deal; it does work out, sometimes. Just for the anecdote, the car was parked in the only space available, quite far down the road from the address. My brother stayed in the car; Our Youngest and myself went in to see the amp. The bloke had it set up in the back kitchen, with a 4x12 cab. He handed me a Telecaster, to try it out; I plucked away a few chords, testing the inputs, listening for pot crackles; it seemed fine. I handed the Tele back, and the fellow turned the master to full and hit a chord. Our son and I both jumped back a metre or so; it was loud; very, very loud. Lugging the brute out to the car, my brother, who had been quietly listening to the radio in the car the while, asked what the heck that noise had been..? That power chord had woken up half of Kingston; it was audible, and bloomin' loud, all around the block..! No, we don't play that loud, but I'm ccomforted in the knowledge that we have 'headroom', and that it can deliver..!

Because nails would stick through the other side and scratch his belt. ... What's so wrong with screwing this on the bass anyway..? Should it be glued on instead, or riveted..? How does one attach wooden pieces to wooden basses otherwise..? Mystified, of Norwich.

We wouldn't know 'em anyway; they never left their basement.
