  1. If this is a 'one-off' situation, I'd suggest a 20th-fret bend. If the situation is recurring, find a bass with the scale length you favour and the number of frets you need.
  2. @cetera : If you do decide on couriering, be aware of this BC offer... Basschat offers exclusive discount for EU shipping ... ... which is also valuable for UK to UK shipping. I've used it (for France to UK...), and was very pleased with both the tariff and the service provided. Just sayin'; hope this helps.
  3. Much useful discussion here ... The D-Neck Issue ... I learned a lot, reading it.
  4. Just a word on Reaper 6... I've rolled back to Reaper 5, as I've had several 'crashes' with the '6' version. It wouldn't be so bad if there was an 'Autosave' feature, to at least get back something, but there's not, so all stuff done since most recent manual 'Save' is lost. The 'Still Evaluating' prompt doesn't bother me, as I'd pay once I'm happy with its performance, but, for now, I'm using my previous version. As and when new '6' versions are released, I'll try them. I'm fully satisfied with the '5' versions, though, which do all I want (and don't crash...). No common cause for the crashes that I can see; I'm just sketching out the start of the January Challenge, with nothing unusual (for me...) going on. Just sayin'.
  5. Orchestral, concert, basses, played by bowing mostly, have, I believe, typically a significantly higher 'action' than plucked basses. It doesn't sound that abnormal to me. In 1901, there was a little less rockabilly being played than nowadays.
  6. Seeing the interest and potential commercial value in these basses, I think I'd recommend getting some real expert opinion on this, before committing. Obviously, if it's only for playing it yourself, you can get it to suit your style, no problem. If, however, it wipes out a large chunk of a possibly high 'collector's' value, then it may be worth either learning to play 'as is', or keeping as an investment, but playing a 'lesser' bass. Just my (inexpert...) tuppence-worth, hope this helps. Disclaimer : Subject to completion, correction and/or contradiction from others...
  7. Philistine . ^^
  8. Not strictly true, as it was a joint win with the prodigious Lurks. Nevertheless, I'll take the offered straw and send a pic to the Boss. Next Challenge, coming up. Bear with me...
  9. And the winners are... Lurksalot, Dazm1966 and Earbrass..! Here, then, are your Winner's Certificates (download and save as pdf file, then proudly print and frame...) ... BC_Chal_Cert_2019_12.pdf ... which look like this (but bigger, of course..!)...
  10. I'll PM my address if you've XXL's in stock..! Edit : topic read more fully, PM sent...
  11. Under the heading of 'be careful what you wish for...', I'd be happy to oblige once these festive days are past. I don't think that I'm overly reputed for my 'supportive ethos' (ask Lenny, for instance...), and I doubt it'll take me months to come to an opinion, so if you can bear the waiting... I'll be back. (And no namby-pamby hiding behind PM's or the like; shot straight from the hip, full blast and in full view. Regretting your participation already..? ...)
  12. Wot he said ^^.
  13. So that's the problem..! You might have told me a bit earlier..! ...
  14. Goodbye, Lefty. ...
  15. What's so special about four o'clock..? ...
  16. I've never really looked at what's in any hit parade, sorry.
  17. Menu 'Options', 'Themes', 'Default_5.0'... Job done. I'll evaluate over the next couple of months; if I adopt it, I'll pay, if not, I'll roll back to 5.983. Simples.
  18. A 'Ric Wanted' ad would be OK, as replies would be strictly by PM. No pictures, preferably.
  19. I had my previous company invest in a Stage-Pass for their (rare...) 'do's' and assembly-hall speeches; an easy system to use, quality gear and flexible. I've retired since, but they're happy with it still.
  20. Here we go, then, hoping that this is in the spirit of this month's Challenge ... Concert 'Chez l'Habitant' for a charity (can't remember which one, or several...). A cold, somewhat damp underfloor garage, sparse but enthusiastic public, fans of Radiohead, which was nice. Filmed and recorded with two Sony Handicams; one ran out before the end, this was the last song of our first set (of two...). Enjoy.
  21. Mutual agreement between the five of us, with privilege given to my need to have a couple of less up-beat numbers between the raucous ones (it's a stamina thing, coupled with advancing years...). We also group guitar changes and drop tunings, if they fit the previous priority, and try not to have all the Radiohead stuff clumped together. S'been working well for the last twenty-odd tears, and is not likely to change any time soon.
  22. Dpd picked up a 13kg parcel (an amp...) from our home, out in the sticks, rural France (Lower Normandy...) on Thursday afternoon. It was delivered, safe and sound, by Dpd on Sunday morning to my brother in Shepperton, Surrey. According to the tracking info, it was still in France the next day..! The total cost, door to door, was 37€39, thanks to the Basschat 10% discount from EuroSender. Many thanks for setting that up, Ped. Very satisfied, no quibbles about shipping stuff from me.
  23. Hmmmm... Yaaaaaaaawn...! What what what..? Did someone call..? Oh, sorry. I had a long night, printing Winner's Certificates 'n stuff. What was that again..? Eh..? And speak up; I'm deaf, y'know.
