Basswood is used quite extensively in model aircraft precisely because it's light, but stronger than balsa. It's used for spars and bracing; anywhere where balsa would be too weak. It's lighter than spruce, which is another option. Basswood is also used in aircraft-grade plywood; again, for its light weight compared to other woods used in ply.

Cort guitars are apparently made from American tilleul and maple, in Indonesia and China. The bodies are from the same woods as US-made guitars.

There are other common names for linden wood (lime wood, nothing to do with lime fruit...), or Tilla, its Latin name; in France it's 'tilleul'. Here's a pretty fair run-down on its use in lutherie (in French...)... Le tilleul est-il un mauvais bois pour la guitare..? ... In essence, it is suggested that American (harder...) or European (a bit softer...) species are useful, especially for bodies, and more so with a maple top, and that Asiatic species are too soft to be very good at all, although one may be lucky sometimes. The most delicate part is getting it properly dried, and the weight will reflect this (it's much lighter when dried...). Worth a read, maybe, through a Google translation if necessary..? All of this is gong to be great fun (not..!) for those crossing the Channel with second-hand items in the boot of their car. On my next visit to Blighty I'm expecting to bring back to France a bass cab I bought and a bass guitar, both second-hand from private sales from this very Forum. What, if any, customs declaration s will be required of me from the French Douanes I've no idea, and don't, in all honesty, consider them relevant, as the deals were done before this 'B' stuff kicked in. I'll find out, maybe, once this 'C' stuff is over; by then the dust may have settled on these new arrangements. I doubt very much that I'll be asked for wotsit numbers, thingemy codes or TVA registration, and if asked, they'll be disappointed by the replies.

Well, they gave up bear-bating, and public hangings. Tyburn used to be a favourite picnic spot, on 'Hanging Days'. No more, though.

I've most of McLaughlin's stuff; I saw the first Shakti mouture, with percussionists Zakir Hussain (on tabla) and Vikku Vinayakram (on Ghatam) in 1974. Amazeballs, really amazeballs. They, collectively, rate right up there with Schubert and Bruckner, for me.

If only you'd said earlier (about half a century earlier, in fact..!). (Although there's a noted guitarist that does some wonderful stuff tweaking the keys..!)

It would appear, having read the article, that there are ongoing expenses incurred, building village homes, for instance, and having a new water reservoir built for future festivals. Expenses already committed, and rather medium/long term, and so 'dependant' on the continued festival income. I may have mis-read, but that's the gist of it.

Yes, I understand the issue, but if it's done and dusted, what needs doing to get it changed, and will that happen..? If it's not going to change, when does one accept that fact, if at all..?

It's just as easy to say when living in North Wales, or Sunderland. I'm not considering my own situation; I'm well past international gigs now.

But why, though..? Notwithstanding the rights or wrongs of the issue, surely there comes a point whereby one has to accept that it's a Fact of Life, like it or not, and move on..? I'm not suggesting that the cause is not just; merely that, maybe, it's a Lost Cause, and energy expended towards it is energy wasted. A darned shame, but such is Life, no..?
