  1. ....but is there a way to see how many members there were when I joined?
  2. If you want to save £500 of your budget you should consider an Ashdown EVO 180. If you want to annoy the neighbours a bit more you could get a valve MAG300 for an extra £50 or so. I have the EVO 180 in my living room - more than I would ever need and the reassurance that if it ever went wrong I could probably run it down to Sussex myself and get it repaired. I would be remiss to not recommend a TE combo (as long as you do not plan to move it yourself).
  3. What he said ^
  4. Yep, the rule does exist...I've had my knuckles rapped by the mods a couple of times.
  5. I've thought about the short scale Squiers (around £150) - the reviews suggests that they're good basses. If you can stretch your budget you might be able to find an ACG short scale - you'll find it difficult to find an "off the shelf" bass that's better.
  6. "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread". If you're spending a significant amount of money, do your homework and make sure you know more than the potential scammer. As stated above there's a ton of knowledge on this forum - again do a bit of homework and find the member who knows about the instrument you're interested in and have them look at the bass via Teams or Skype.
  7. I've had both of these - both excellent. You might also want to consider the DR Q EHX Bass Follower which is an affordable Envelope Filter.
  8. Go to the CAB website and check your statutory rights but IIRC they sold you the item at the price you paid - they can't add money after the fact.
  9. I worked in the Drug & Alcohol service for 15 years - there's lots of evidence that using recreational drugs exacerbates existing MH problems. As an example as Cannabis got stronger so there has an increase in MH issues. In the 80s there were virtually no Cannabis users in MH services, now there are thousands. Jaco's MH issues didn't surface till he met Joe and joined Weather Report. Prior to joining he didn't even drink.
  10. Don't forget to thank Mr Zawinul for introducing Jaco to Cocaine which caused his downfall.

    What happened?

My first bass was a Westone Thunder 1a - I traded it for an acoustic with one of my mates for one of his projects. He swapped it for some illegal chemicals, it went round a circle of undesirables before ending up with another friend of mine. He lent it to his Uncle who sold it. No doubt it will turn up again.
  14. Glad somebody else said what I was thinking
  15. There are a few Yamahas on Gumtree currently. A very nice looking blue TRB 5 for £550 is very enticing. Beware of the GAS
  16. APOLOGIES.

I received a message from what I believed to be a trust worthy source offering the chance to win prizes from Aldi.

    I foolishly sent this on.

Some people here were included to this forwarded message for which I apologise. I have messaged everybody advising them NOT to use the link but thought it best to do this more publicly in case others received a similar message. If you do receive a similar (virus filled) message I suggest you use an anti-virus app to clean your phone.

Lesson learned: If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Thanks for the heads up. I would suggest factory re-setting your phone if you have any doubts about malware or viruses. Please take care to back up your files beforehand. If you are unsure contact your manufacturer and service provider websites and support pages. If you use the anti-virus / anti-malware app please double check that that is what it says it is, that it is the one in the play store / app store with a significant number of downloads and reviews. A common ploy for dodgy apps is to claim to protect you from dodgy apps.

  17. I really wanted one of these when they first come out.... GLWTS
  18. Hey @LukeFRC how good a likeness of you is this??
  19. Not part of the discussion I know...I prefer brass.
  20. Agreed, however it doesn't hurt to acknowledge greatness...
  21. I just finished watching the video - a great acknowledgement to "the greatest bass player in the world". Jaco's an enigma - a genius yet fragile man who was destroyed by Cocaine and relationship breakdowns. He, like Hendrix and Jim Morrison, has left his mark on the world. The fact that musicians are still debating his contribution to music shows how powerful his work is. Imitated but never surpassed....to many still "the greatest bass player in the world". RIP sir...
  22. Several nominations for Sire. I owned a V3 which was an amazing bass - the only downside was the neck dive which I couldn't resolve, even with lightweight machine heads. If Sire can resolve this they'll have one helluva bass on their hands.
  23. I saw this the other day - if it wasn't fretless... I still wouldn't have the money for it
  24. This
  25. His budget is very realistic and there are many good basses in his price range. I'm sure he could pick up a nice Yamahas (BB is popular here), MM SUB, Sire and the lower range of Spectors/ Warwicks. I have a Squier PJ Standard which sell in his price range and would, IMO, be a good buy. I've also heard good things about Revelation which I've seen for around £150. Needless to say there'll be recommendations for Harley Bentons too.
