  1. Here it is: I got in contact with Yamaha UK and they're sending out the required parts to make good on the truss rod repair. TBH I'm not sure on the body shape. A couple of options. First is to move it on but this would be a shame as it sounds amazing. Second is to commission a smaller body but I anticipate that costing more than the bass. Need my premium bonds to come in.
  2. I really enjoyed that!! Bass player has a wicked tone....
  3. That needs white knobs
  4. They think they are and that we are idiots for questioning them. Definitely true of guitarists who think they can play bass...
  5. I've been using tapewounds on all my 5ers for the past few months. They give me that phat, old skool soul/ funk sound I've been chasing for years. Nice smooth feel, tension and tones. I'd recommend them - the Warwick and Fender ones are very affordable at under £30. Status are sold out but can supply odd strings.
  6. I'm waiting for the washers to arrive from Yamaha so that I can fix the truss rod issue then I'm going to lower the action and think about fitting some tapewound strings. I need to bond with it before I change them.
  7. There's a nice blue one on gumtree. https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/yamaha-bbg5s-bass-guitar-5-string-in-excellent-condition/1409985180
  8. Nick Smith aka @doctor_of_the_bass. If you need his phone number, let me know.
  9. You are a font of knowledge. Don't know what I'd do without you. Cheers 🍻
  10. The new BB615 with the BBG5S.
  11. My BB615
  12. The new BB615. Not sure about it yet.
  13. It's in amazing condition. As far as I can see, this is the only damage.
  14. The BB615 arrived today. Great range of tones, which I like but TBH I'm not sure about the body size. We must adapt.
  15. The new BB615. Lots of knobs...
  16. That looks really dry....possibly in need of oiling? I don't think I've seen Rosewood that grained....could be Laurel but I haven't seen that many Laurel fretboards. Helpful as ever...
  17. For some easy listening while you're stuck in front of a screen...
  18. Looking at the bridges (the blue one has a high mass bridge) I would hazard a guess that the black and the pink ones are later models when manufacturing was moved away from Japan.
  19. BB615 just arrived ...it's nasty outside so I'll wait till the weather clears up before getting some photos done.. I contacted Yamaha customer service about the truss rod issue. Their rep spoke to their luthier who confirmed a couple of washers would resolve the issue and they're putting some in the post.
  20. Hey Pete I'd love to hear how good the Nordstrand sounds if you think it's an improvement. I'm more than happy with the standard Nanyo parts but if the upgrade is worthwhile I would consider doing it myself. Any sound clips??
  21. A certain Mr McCartney might paraphrase you to say " I'm a real nowhere man..."
  22. There's a seller on eBay selling these in a multitude of colours.
  23. Can anybody tell me what the model numbers mean? For instance are the lower numbers "lesser" models? Are the 615/625 upgrades on the 415/425?
  24. Locked all my 4s away and persevered with 5ers. Not as much fun as 4 strings but I think I'm being more creative using more octaves.
