1. Hey Ronan - Nice one seeing Rory. Sadly before my time, though I've heard many's a story from my folks about seeing him in his early days. My dad booked him for his student union at Queens in Belfast. I played with The 4 Of Us in the Blue Lagoon, in about late May/early June of 1999. Still a good strong Sligo connection though - I just finished a 6 week tour with Kieran Goss, a Nordie yes, but now living up the road in Dromore West. Actually, the two Murphy brothers from The 4 Of Us were on the tour too. And I've been blessed to do many's a gig with Vinnie Higgins from Sligo on sound - he's done more than his fair share in helping answer all my nerdy live bass sound questions. Nice one getting the 5 string - hope the wait isn't too long.
2.
Musicians who started on 'cello ; Jack Bruce James Taylor
And Yo-Yo Ma I'm guessing? (actually, just checked and he started on violin. But you get my sarky point nonetheless;) )
3. And Ray Brown too - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jazz_Cello
4. It can indeed be done. Oscar Pettiford did it - And coincidentally - I just got a cello yesterday too!!! Just like any other tuning - it's all about getting the right string gauges. As to what they would be for a cello tuned in 4ths - I have no idea.
5.
Steve Glasgow did the original transcription plus several more I have used so a huge thanks to him.
Yep, Stevie has done some amazing stuff for the bass community. And a nice guy too!!
6. This is, I do believe you will all find, THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE greatest thing since sliced bread!!!!! Thank you so much for doing this. Right now Chaka Khan's 'All Night's All Right' is grooving across my screen. Too much fun to be had with this. Thanks again.
7. My bad - this pedal was sold a few months ago. Sorry for not updating.
8. Sorry to hear that Clarky. Good luck.
9. Hey Ronan - Fair play to ye for getting back on board, and a hearty welcome from another Irishmen, albeit from the Black North - (tho I did start dating my wife in Sligo, after playing in The Blue Lagoon many years ago.) Onwards and upwards!!!
10. Damn you Clarky - now I have GAS.
11. Bump for a well looked after quality instrument - from a well looked after quality bloke
12. Bump for an undoubtedly great instrument. I have a FJ '75 Re-Issue, non-export, in Olympic White that is to die for - and if I didn't I'd be so all over this............. oh lordy I wish I was a weaker man.
13. Kolstein Heritage are a great low tension string. Heck, a great string all round. Great feel and tone, IMO. And wonderfully magnetic. And a major +1 for their customer service. Barrie Kolstein rocks.
14.
Alternatively save up some more and buy a 2-channel 'doubling' amp - eg, Euphonic Audio Doubler or MarkBass Markacoustic. Won't need a separate preamp then and can flog your current amp to help pay for the incomer
+1 or try to find a used Markbass LMK - great amps for doubling.
15. Having the molds makes a huge difference, IMO. I've just moved from using Sennheiser IE8's to JH Audio JH7 Pro's and it's a world of difference. Aside from the multiple drivers, I really feel the molds play a huge part in getting a good, tight bass response. Pricey but worth checking out: http://www.jhaudio.com/collection-promusic.php#7
16. Bump for this!!! Folks, these are lovely instruments and, for me, one of the closest things you'll get to a full bodied upright. Mine is lovingly lying on my hotel floor beside me with the sweetest of sweet low action and more mwah than you can shake a stick at.
17. Gary Sinise plays bass - and has done in an episode of 'CSI: New York'.
18.
I have a fischer wired in-ear monitor kit coupled with a pair of Ultimate Ears triple-fi-10s' and it's fab, sounds really good!
+1 for the Fischer and the Ultimate Ears. A great set-up indeed. I'm taking my Fischer with me tomorrow on tour, along with a set of in-ears from JHA, the guy that founded Ultimate Ears. Really lovely bits of kit.
19. Thanks for the heads up BR. And thanks always for the wonderful resource that is your site.
20. Good luck at the Picnic. I'm missing it sadly - should have been there with Jerry Fish & The Mudbug Club and Gavin Friday but I'm away on tour the day before it starts. Great timing. I've never been to the Picnic - but I'll bet it's an easier load in than The Pav!!
21. My tuppence worth is based on the alternatives. I just played a big open air gig, with Elbow and The Villagers on the bill, and used my two Epifani 1x12 cabs and a Markbass LMK head. My rig was on a flight case about 2 feet off the ground. Master volume was barely at 9 o'clock. Getting the speakers up closer to your head greatly reduces the need for high volume, IME. And I was playing upright too - so not having a huge sound meant little feedback trouble.
22. Fair play to you guys for doing this. Enjoy the coach ride. What dates are you playing in Munich? I'm in the Galeria Kaufhof in Marienplatz on September 9th. Always cool to see some (virtually) familiar faces.
23. I just bought a Streamliner 600 after playing only solid state inputs for years. Literally from the first note I was a happy guy. This is a bargain - barely much more than a new 600. BUMP!!!!!!!!!!! (go on Bigwan, you know you want to......)
24. Bump for this. I've been playing one of these for the last three years. An astonishingly capable little cab. Much prefer it over the SWR Goliath III that I had before it.
