+1 on Ashdown ABM cabs. I used to have a 400RB and an Ashdown ABM410 and it shifted some serious air. Pretty heavy but I would happily deal with the weight to get that tone again. It sounded really dense and powerful; don't get me wrong I love my MB210, but I feel that lightweight bass gear lacks a certain strength to it. If ever need a big rig again, I'll go for an RB rig. I think the Fender Pawn Shop range will be worth more than they are now in 25 years. Also 80's Warwicks. Mainly because they're really really good quality basses and have period specific features. As for unfashionable, I think pointy basses and entry level Yamahas and Ibanez should do quite well. Truckstop

Although I've already posted in Stavros' feedback thread, I want to reiterate here that he is completely trustworthy and is dedicated to making sure that if you were to buy off him you'd get the instrument as fast as possible and as well protected as possible! I certainly wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again; so take it from me, if you're concerned about sending money to Greece and it being sent here then don't be! Good luck with the sale Stavros Alex

Sigur Ros, Yndi Halda, The Twlight Sad and Mogwai are my particular favourites. EITS are also awesome, but I little to heavy to be post-rock. Mainly instrumental; post-rock bands tend to create ultra atmospheric songs. Lots of effects, distorted drums, odd time signatures and often accompanied by bleak imagery and a drawn, dark, emotion-less live show. Post- rock draws on classical influences and strings and organs are often used to great effect. Mogwai are my particular favourites; can't be bothered to find a link, but 'Secret Pint' live in Japan really is a gorgeous piece of music. Truckstop

I don't have "a sound". Is something wrong with me?
Truckstop replied to thepurpleblob's topic in General Discussion
I read a lot of threads on here and there's a lot of chat about finding "your sound". I don't have one. Am I ok? I turn up at a gig, set everything in sight flat. I have a listen. If there are any odd resonances or other oddness in the room I try to dial it out then off to get a diet coke. That's it. I'm weird aren't I
Sounds about right to me. Rest assured, your playing style gives you as much individuality as you'll ever need. Truckstop -
Eh?! Do it yourself! Buy some really cheap black tolex and practice on something, then buy the purple that you want and do it properly! It's not hard really, just make sure you dont end up with any joins on the edges andmale sure that you have a metal rule, a large flat area to work on and a sharp stanley blade. Even if you have to try a few times it'll still cost less in parts than pay someone else to do it for you. Truckstop

Sad admission - losing sleep, obsessed with gear !
Truckstop replied to hamfist's topic in General Discussion
Well for me, I stay up thinking about it because my fiancée and I don't really have much money so I have to try really really try to justify whether I can buy a new set of strings or suchlike. A £25 set of strings is our food budget for the week, so such decisions cannot be taken lightly! Truckstop -

Sad admission - losing sleep, obsessed with gear !
Truckstop replied to hamfist's topic in General Discussion
I get the exact same thing! Maybe two nights a month I really struggle to get to sleep because I've been on eBay before bed and got severe GAS! It's normally the cheap things I really struggle with; leads, stands, cases, strings! I'm normally pretty settled with my amp and guitars, it's the extraneous crap that worries me. Making the decision as to whether I can justify buying something is something that really keeps me up at night! I also struggle to get to sleep if I've been shedding in the day; get loads of songs swirling around in my head! Truckstop -
Stavros is awesome. He proposed a trade deal that certainly cost him a smlall fortune to complete as postage from Greece to UK is a lot more than you'd think. Kept me fully up to date and the bass is exactly as described. Tonnes of bubblewrap and extremely well packaged. I could not be happier with the deal! Trade with Stavros with a very high level of confidence. Cheers! Alex

I'd no idea he was in the Wrecking Crew and he was such a gifted guitarist! Obviously I knew he played guitar, but not to that sort of standard for a long long time. Must learn more. What an enigma! Truckstop

If I werent so far away (it's in Havant) I'd put a sneaky £150 offer on this and I reckon I'd win it! Looks in good nick and seller seems honest enough. No affiliation here, just thought someone might get themselves a good deal. The playing of the songs pales in comparison to making sure that this is a band that you want to be in. Is everyone happy to meet you? Any tensions between other band members? Do they appear to rehearse regularly? Etc You've got to make sure that the band has an infrastructure that can deal with the arrival of another guy. Otherwise, relax and be yourself! Truckstop

Why would you need to go above the 12th fret? Setting intonation can be tricky, just be prepared to spend a lot of time on it. Reverse tuners are really good which makes it a bit easier! Truckstop

I was looking at that! I used to have the Sting sig. and thoroughly regret selling it. Lovely rich warm P tone, you'll not get a massive amount of clarity out of it; it's certainly not a hi-fi bass but you can get a little clank with the right strings. But why wouldn't you get some flats and just thud away on it? Perfect for blues and rock n roll. I remember it not being particularly heavy or big. The body's smaller and thinner than you'd think so it's really comfortable to play. £410's about right I think. I've never seen one go for less than £400 and most seem to go for around £450. About right for any Jap RI Fender. Truckstop

Just a small comment: In the ad you say that this model costs £2,200 new, yet you're asking for a trade worth £2,300? That might be why no-one's biting! After a bass has been bought new, people expect a drop in price; a fairly decent drop. No matter the condition or how old it is. The fact is, is it's a second hand instrument and people want a second hand pricetag. Just a musing. Otherwise, good luck with the sale! Alex -

You might be surprised with how compact Genz cans are! 4x10+2x10 will move plenty of air for you and the best part is, is that if you play smaller venues you can use the 4x10 and leave the 2x10 at home for rehearsing. Good luck! Truckstop

I can't really add to what's been said but Wichita Lineman is one of my favourites too. I've never known a song be so pretty but so dark at the same time. Has 211 plays on my iTunes! Truckstop
