Because people that 'endorse' products have been paid to do so. I'd imagine OBBM manages to keep his prices low because he doesn't pay people to rave about them! 20 real people have just recommended OBBM for free. Doesn't that mean something anymore? Truckstop -
Yeah a smaller amp and a decent multi-fx will help muchly. If you're looking at events then guitar should be mic'd or DI'd through the FOH anyway. A smaller combo will help keep the onstage volume down and the FOH sound can be mixed properly by dad/sound man/manager. I've been using a Vox Cambridge 30 and a Boss ME-20 for nearly 2 years now. I've never had to have the volume higher than halfway and we've played some pretty decent stages! Decent mic, through the desk, and perfect volume every time. Set-up cost me £220 including amp stand, mini-boom for the mic and an SM-57. Mind you, it's taken me 10 years to arrive at this set-up. I've been through the 4x12 phase! Truckstop

You should get yourself an Ashdown James Lomenzo Hyperdrive. It's got a frequency scroller and you can choose where in the mix you want the distortion to sit while still retaining the lows. Other OD's have the same tool but the Lomezo is probably the most inexpensive option (SH). The bands I've seen/heard with the best overdriven bass sounds tend to embrace the fact that they're going to lose bottom end and really pile on the grit and work with the guitars and keys to create a great BAND sound. Personally, 'a touch of grit' does nothing. You may as well just use a heavy playing style. For 'grit' to work, you need a cranked valve amp. Using pedals, you gotta spade the drive on and work to find a mix with the rest of the band that works. In my opinion. Truckstop

You are describing the function of a clean boost pedal. I used to use a Mr. Zinky Master Blaster. I think most pedal manufacturers make one. Truckstop

Tuner and a few dirtboxes for stacking options are my essentials. Loving the Turbo Rat at the moment; I also have an original Guv'nor, a Jackhammer, standard Big Muff and a James Lomenzo as well. Lomenzo is a great 'one pedal' dirt solution because of its EQing options and it's range but sounds a bit sterile. Never found a compressor I liked (in pedal form at least) and things like delay, octave and synths are non-essentials in my opinion. Great for buggering about with, but wouldn't a keyboard be more useful and less hassle? Truckstop

I used to use a little slapback on occasion in a three piece rock n roll/blues band but eventually dropped it as I didn't feel it added much to the overall band sound. Otherwise I just use my delay at home for general sodding about fun. Truckstop

[/quote] I just prefer a clanky sound. I like to hear absolutely everything that goes on, so I like having severely cut bass frequencies. We have a dude that makes us sound good FOH; What does it matter what I/we sound like on stage? When we rehearse I use two Workingman's 10s and have a much fuller tone. The other band members are well aware of, and practice, careful EQing so no problems. Truckstop

I always go for a horrible middy, clanky noise when I use my combos as stage monitoring just so I can hear myself properly on the stage; FOH it'll be chunky and solid. I've never bothered to try to get 'my tone' on an amp for monitoring. It'll be changed beyond recognition FOH anyway. If want a FOH sound closer to 'your tone', you should invest in a really good mic and get your cab/combo mic'd up. Even then, there's no telling what the sound man might do! Truckstop

It's part of a musicians rite of passage to buy sh*tty instruments and lose money on them. I think everyone on here has made some poor decisions and bought some right dogs whether from a shop, eBay or even on BC! It's taken me a long time to figure out what it is that I like in an instrument; tone wise and construction wise. Along the way I've lost loads of money on dogs and replacement parts. I can safely say I will never buy a bad instrument ever again because I know what to look for. You just need to dive in and get started. Buy something you like the look of and find out! Truckstop

The thing is, is that is gear out there that is suited to all kinds of different situations. Over the last 12 years, I've finally settled on a rig of two small matching combos. One for practice, rehearsals and small gigs; and two for larger gigs. If I had £300 to spend on a gig ready rig, I'd buy the Ampeg SVT 1x15 cab for sale on this site for £100 and then with the rest I'd buy a Gallirn Kreuger MB200. Plenty of power for small gigs and rehearsals, looks great and is also expandable with another cab in the future. Truckstop

Don't want to boast, but I got it down in an afternoon. To be fair, the solo took a few sessions to get down as I'd never attempted tapping before then. Truckstop Ad. Should point out I learnt it 8 years ago when I was playing at a high level everyday and practised nearly all day, everyday! If I tried it now it'd take a week. -

Erotomania and Voices can be done on 4-string if you're clever about it. Might be some stretching involved but can be done. Also fairly simple, just long! Apart from the tapping solo, Metropolis Pt. 1 is relatively 'easy', again, it's just a long song so lots to remember. I think also some of the stuff from Scenes From A Memory are doable; 'Home' (in drop D), Strange De-ja vu(sp?) and Throught her Eyes can all be accomplished on a 4 banger. I think I'm gonna bang the album on right now! Truckstop -
Looks great! Good job! Personally I think I'd re-shape the lower horn to be a bit more traditional but yeah, looks lovely! The ferrules are a nice touch that I don't think many people would have thought of; nice touch. Truckstop

Handles on all sides and jack sockets on one of the sides please. I hate having to f*** about blindly with leads around the back of the cab. Why not have the sockets on the side? Or even the top? Truckstop
