Even tho they are not valve, the new Fender Rumbles (V3) combo's can sound fairly old school to me. If you can get the chance to try one. Edit to say, you might be pleasently surprised
Thanks for all the Replies. I'm Currently leaning very much towards one of the ~€1000 models (carved/hybrid) available at Thomann and Gedo unless a good deal pops up second hand. It says on both sites that they will do a setup to your specs when ordering, but would I be right in saying that it would be still worth taking them to a luthier when they arrive for a proper seeing to? Also in what ballpark would I be expected to pay for a setup from a luthier? Cheers
Like I said before I'm new to DB's, so this is not coming from a pro, I was advised to get an adjustable bridge when I ordered mine, they set it up and marked it before posting it, all I had to do was slightly adjust the string heights once it had settled and it's been fine since. I haven't felt the need to take it to a luthier. It's felt better to me than any other DB I have had my hands on . I'm not sure how it projects soundwise compared to others but have only had nice comments about how nice it sounds from people. Guessing, but if you know you are going to stick to a certain type of string maybe just getting a conventional bridge and getting a luthier to work on it might be another way to go.. I'll leave it to those in know to comment..

NBD: 1988 Musicman Stingray- very red, very lovely

Fantastic enjoy. That one should get you noticed -
I'm very much still a novice to the DB world, but I will say for around your budget I got a new Thomaan 22 some Spirocores and an adjustable bridge they did a basic setup and I just tweaked the string heights once it arrived to get an action I was/am happy with. Couldn't find any used market here for DB's and if there was they were really expensive so it was an easy choice to buy new for me. Good luck and I'm sure with that budget you should find something nice.
I always at some point in any given rehearsal even for just a tiny bit play the Jaws riff, Sweeney and The Professionals.
like those, been so many great ones in this thread. I'll add Minder, I always thought it sounded Chas and Dave and Dr Snuggles always makes me feel good for some reason. Been getting more and more into chunky bass necks and been Gassing for a 50's Classic for a while now. I already have 2 early 70's Fender P's that I love, but couldn't resist this on colour weight and also the chunkier neck.. I'd say I got lucky as I managed to pick it up new for a secondhand price as the shop are selling off their Fender gear as their supply contract with them has come to an end. The sad news is it was one in and one out for me so I sold off my CIJ 51 RI.
A very timely review! I'm thinking of getting one of it's more powerful brothers. All the boxes are being ticked so far!
I can only add that I have more expensive Aguilar and Genz Benz rigs and the Rumble V3 gets the nod for the sound I'm after.
Me too, even though a certain fail rate is absolutely normal and to be expected. In my experience if you want great build quality, top components, great sound and reliability, it's never 'affordable'.
Yes, lets see. I have had mine nearly a year now and it gets about 5 hours use a week.(no problems sos far) Now I have the 210 extension as well I always carry a spare head when I gig if ever the Rumble decides to go tits up.

Serious gas from me for a MiM Classic 50's P Trying to control it. The Roadworn and Classic's I have tried have all been nice. I did have a dog of an early 80's MiM Fender Jazz tho...

Growing uo my Dad played Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond to death on an old reel to reel and on 8 track in the car In my own formative years it was.. Never mind the Bollox at School The Ruts Babylon's Burning (they were a local group) The Boomtown Rats were huge at the time as well. and also hearing Tubeway Army for the first time are all musical memories I have from round about the same time. -
The one in the pic looks the same size as the combo. I think it depends whether it's the 1X12, the 1X15 or the 2X10 and whether it's version 2 or 3.
Yes you're right, that's the 210 v3 and it's the same size as the v3 500 combo.
back to the line out being only post everything, I've used it twice with a full PA first time, at a local venue with an in house PA, it was unusable, signal too high (according to the sound man) second time at Strummercamp this weekend no problems at all sound guy said everything was good, that was with gain at 12 o clock and master at 3 o clock, so go figure
I have also used the DI out a few times and haven't had a problem yet.
How did that go? Edit: Doh! That's tonight! I want a full report though
Just back from it! It was a pretty small event in the end, still nice to play outside and get paid even tho it was cold about +12 c. A few were up dancing and we also sold a few CD's , so can't be bad. Pretty low volume levels as well, so no pushing the rig at all. Must say I do like having the speakers closer to the ears and will always take the extension cab when I can. It's just more goodness Some wobbly video footage my daughter shot... Basssplayer-Jazzbass-boring - it's just noise lol.

Not huge fan of the J-bass sound but...
Highfox replied to ChunkyMunky's topic in General Discussion
See? I disagreed before you even said it.
I also think they sound totally different. For me the Jazz needs a bit more eq-ing with the band, the P just works treble on or off. Might have to try myself a PJ one day. off topic, but when I showed NWR (name dropping lol) my 1970 Precision he picked it up played it and asked me if I'd considered adding a jazz pick-up to it lol. -
Him and Bernard are the reasons's I won't be without a stingray... I'll forever keep the image of their 2 spirits funking it up wherever they are!

Aston Family man Barrett's choice of weapon (you don't get more un -quacky than that) Sting in the early days.. Good old Norman Watt Roy as well. It's a very responsive bass imo, As has been said pup blending and tone control mixed with where you attack from make it very versatile. -
