1. I'm considering going busking with our guitarist. He'd probably just take an acoustic with no amp, but acoustic basses can't compete in my experience. Can anyone recommend a busking rig? I guess it will have to be battery powered. thanks
2. I bought some CDs, and I've no complaints. Thanks
3. I bought some strings, and I'm happy with the transaction. Thanks Matt
4. +1 for the Yamaha BBs. Also for the Ibanez SR300.
5. If I had the money, I'd nab it... GLWTS!
6. It's probably just as well it comes with its own hard case... those could be tricky to find! I can't imagine how to play it. Good luck with your sale!
7.
It could be pixies. I sometimes leave the window open. At some point during its period of rest I remember I mucked about with the pickup heights. I've tried that several times before and it didn't help, but maybe this time I found that magic spot. So that's another bass where I can't adjust or change anything, including the strings, in case it all goes to ratshit again. Fortunately string height and intonation doesn't bother me that much.
Measure everything, now, while it sounds great. (Take photos ) Then you might have a chance at getting that sound back, later.
8. I've exactly the same problem. Any (constructive ) suggestions would be appreciated.
9.
Assuming the same scale length I guess it's distance from the bridge that determines tone?
Yes. Have a go on a Westone Rail some time; a startling progression of tone, purely from pickup position. (I'd guess they aren't your thing, but the experiment is well worthwhile if you have the chance.)
10.
It's interesting to note that the original BBs (at least, my old '84 BB400S) had the P pickup reversed: This was fairly common in Japanese basses of the era (my Washburn SB40 also has this) and I suppose theoretically it might brighten the response of the E & A strings - although I think you'd be hard pushed to notice. I did think on the BB it made the pickup a slightly more conveniently placed thumb-anchor than a standard P layout. Unfortunately I don't have the bass any longer so I can't measure the position. Anyone else got an original BB? Jon.
294mm to the centre of the gap between the halves of the pup.
11. I'm glad it works for someone
12. There was a link to an mp3 in Machines' review. I, being a software professional, cannot get it to play...

bass pod users?
out of interest have you ever managed to get it to download patches via usb?
Never tried it, sorry.
14. I haven't, nor have I any easy way of getting them. I'll have a think and see what I can arrange.

bass pod users?

I have an old-style bean-shaped Bass Pod. Its inputs are: 6mm jack, midi in, pedal. So, this version doesn't. HTH
16. I bought flatwounds from L. They came by myHermes, who were not quick but did the job. No problems here. Thanks L
17. I'm just going to stick my neck out here and suggest tuning in fourths, but from D rather than E... because sometimes that blue low D is really nice, if you're in E. But I've given up fives anyway
18. ^ gives a whole new meaning to 'neck dive'...
19.
Is it a genuine vintage tea-chest bass, or is it a new relic'd version? The tea they used in the 60's was quite different, and had a wonderful tone.
Especially for playing the cha-cha.
20. Forgive my curiosity - Where is the truss rod access? Or are there two TRs? It looks as if there's a cutout in the body, but also a channel behind the nut.
