hi there, It's really good! the natural sound isn't quite as bright as as jazz but is v close & the eq on this think is so powerful it only takes a slight treble boost & your there! I've found an Ed Friedland "Bass Whisperer" review that has some sounds on it, hope this helps: http://www.bassemporium.com/newsletters/0208newsletter.html Cheers.
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my question and for the link to the sound clips, it was most illuminating.

Just out of interest, how well does this reproduce the sound of a Jazz bass when playing with just the bridge pickupup on? Reason I ask is that when i had my Jazzes I mostly just used the bridge pickup; I also love the sound of Precision basses, so this combination (with the Jazz-width neck too) seems ideal. Free bump for a beautiful instrument.
well i prefer the look and feel of the smaller body. thats it really! the UV's are full fender size while the MV and RV's are slightly downsized.
Fair enough, thanks for the reply. Having never had the fortune to play a Sadowsky perhaps you could tell me - does it nail the passive Fender tone?

There are loads of great pro jazz bassists playing on the London scene. It might be worth checking a few gigs and finding someone whose tone and technique appeals to you and ask them if they'll teach (or they may pass you to one of their better students).

Hey NeonMig, thanks for the links to Renaud Garcia Fons, I'd never heard of him before, but I definitely will be checking out his music! Incidentally, have you heard of Avishai Cohen? He's a bass player (I say this because there is a trumpeter with the same name). If not, check him out. Inspirational.

Just to clarify: position 1 is not quite the same as a Stingray. A Stingray's pickups are wired in parallel, double pickup Sterlings have this position wired in series. (However, single H pickup model Sterlings do have this position wired in parallel.) So on the HS model, postion 1 is the same as position 3 on a single H model. Sill a great sound but doesn't quite have the more clicky treble of the parallel wiring.

I've been thinking about getting one of these for a while now (presuming it's the one with an alder body and US vintage pickup originally) - I actually had one on hold at Ishibashi for a week before I decided I needed to save the money for a new camera. If this had had the stock pickup then I may well have changed my mind! -
If you want a Japanese one with an ash or alder body, you need a not-for-export model (it'll also have US pickups). Currently you can't get these exported new, but fareastguitars occasionally has second-hand ones.
Guitar Emporium has all the Japanese "not-for-export" models available (though at a premium price).

Free bump for a great amp. I just tried one out today that is for sale local to me and loved it. Sadly it's way too big for what I need it for - I was looking for something I could take on the train if necessary. I don't think my arms would still be able to function at a gig if I had to carry one of these to it! The separate control over the tweeter and woofer gets some amazing sounds. TBH the amp sounds great flat, but there's so much scope to dial in loads of other great sounds. Oh how I wish i had a car of my own, I'd have bought the one I tried in a heartbeat. Good luck with the sale! -
