1. I recently went in a local CC to get an idea of a price they would give me for a brand new bass cab I have and they said there is a facility on their web site for you to find out how much they will give you for anyting. I haven't looked for it but it might be worth checking your stuff on there before lugging it down to the shop as thats what they check in-store before offering you a price.... apparently.
2. Saturday, I had two gigs. One at the launch of the new WBA fan Zone with reggae band Musical Youth Stu Hartland from the Twang and the other was a blues, Rock n Roll, Reggae band gig in the evening.
3. Wow that sounds just up my street musically, give me a shout if you are gigging up in the Midlands area.
4. I think I will pop down there sometime during the day to check it out if it's not raining.
5. Try an anaconda
6. Strung my bass up with some last night and my first impressions are. a) Not as bright sounding as my usual D'addario's which is ok for reggae. b} Much smoother feel and not like the sandpaper feel that I usually experience with new strings. c) I may be mistaken but they feel like they have less tension than my normal strings which isn't a problem Have a band rehearsal tomorrow so I should get a better idea of what they will sound like live.
7.
put the strings on, and stretch/pull them. it pulls the windings to there optimum capacity.thus pre-empting there natural stretch and going out of tune over time. its a must when putting on new strings for me. tune up, then pull on a string then check your tuning.
yep that's what I've always done and I'm amazed at the number of players who don't do that and they leave loads of windings on the peg too.
8. Yeah, all makes sense but I'm gonna try some new, to me, elixir's and see how they hold up. Perfect opportunity to oil the fingerboard as well. Thanks for your relevant comments and the humour in the irrelevant ones... :-)

10. You make a great sound with that bass.

This is a balalaika and i've seen quite a number of these being played at WOMAD in the past in a band where all the musicians were playing three stringed instruments like these of various sizes and tunings. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balalaika
12. I've used elixir's on my electric guitars for many years now and I rate those highly. I;ve never tried them on bass but this week I recently two sets of elixir 5 string bass sets 45 - 130 that I bought on line and plan to put them on my all maple bass before my next gig to see how well I get on with them.
13.
Frankly I think it serves him right for wondering about out there beyond the fifth fret
+ 1 :-)
14. I have a bass that I use exclusively for reggae and the round wound strings on it are around a year and a half old. That is an unusually long time for me to keep strings on a bass but I wanted to see if I got a warmer more mellow tone over time for the genre with old strings. However, last weekend I played a gig with the bass and whilst the strings were in tune in the open position there were a number of places on the bass, more noticeably 7th fret and below, where the notes sounded very slightly off pitch and as a result I found myself bending the strings to pitch during some of the songs. I checked the tuning during the gig and the open strings stayed in tune all the way through the gig. I've recently got some Elixir's so will most likely put them on the bass and check the intonation before the next gig. But I just wondered if it's normal for older strings to lose their pitch along their length.
15. Looks good but those demo's make it sound too gritty for my taste. I'll try on out when I see one in a shop.

17.
Bump for a great bag. I've got one and they are top notch. Interesting that you feel they don't suit angled head-stocks. My Spector has one and it's fine. Loads of padding and holds the bass rock-solid.
+1 on that. I also have angled headstocks on my basses and they fit great. One bass has a tight fit but that is because of the offset angle of the body end of the bass which means the bottom end of the bass does not sit flat in the case. But it fits and protection is really good.
18. You will find lots of tracks with multi-tracked bass lines on recordings by Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten
19.
Any ideas where best to buy small pieces of suitable woods ?
I got John Diggins (Jaydee custom guitars) to do mine for me I'm sure there are decent places on-line to get small pieces of wood.
20. I played a great gig at Cobbles in Lough, Lincolnshire on Friday night and they couldn't be more helpful to us. Helped us set up the P.A. carried boxes etc from the van, offered to make us breakfast the following morning even though we were staying in a local hotel for two nights.

22. Not done it on bass but i changed the one on my fender strat to a quilted maple one and it looks great.
23. I tied it twice so far. My bass gives me individual pickup outputs rather than bi-amping through a crossover. I tried it on a reggae gig but it didnt give me anything noticeably better. Last December i tried it at a big venue jazz-funk gig and it sounded great but it was a rush so i didnt have time to really check out properly how better or worse it was compared to mono. The sound guy took a di from each of my rack pre-amps and a mic from each cab. He did that because it was being multi track recorded into protools. Here is a preview from the gig http://youtu.be/o3DD0UbiRrY
24. Mica from Alembic reported it to the forum and posted photo's http://alembic.com/club/messages/403/211738.html?1438855531 Hope that helps the owner get it back.
25. If you are looking for a lightweight case that is flight case standard. You can get a Scott Dixon case. I have a few of them for guitar and one for bass and they are really strong and high quality.
