hmmmm, what you buying..??
at $500 i hope it requires a container whatever it is. -
when i got the Schecter i felt bad cos i swore blind my Ibby 800 was the only bass id ever need, now i just swap between them.....kind of like a mormon bass player except i dont hump them..the P copy the wife bought me i actually left on the back seat of the car hoping some pikey would nick it but no luck there, even at this early stage of playing each one of them means something to me.

sorry to resurect a dead thread but some of you guys are f***ing sharp,i would have bid on that without question being a noob and sh*t eyesight.....

Going to see them in Edinburgh in a couple of weeks, first biggish gig ive been to in a couple of yrs,yea JJ brought bass to my attention way back in the 70s,not heard any of the new stuff should be fun

Check his feedback ratings, sells everything from dissappearing 02 sim cards to dresses with "gum"in the area where the wifes Herman Smitz should be sitting, also selling a pair of black size 5 Jazz shoes if your interested,no doubt genuine Fender Jazz shoes with that "heavily relic"effect, his shop must resemble Del Boys flat......
+1 I've ordered from these guys too. It's amazing how they've got such competitive prices AND great service
Same here, got my DR neons, ordered monday, turned up Thurs.

You seem to know your sh*t m8,i was lost the minute you mentioned oscillicopes so i wouldnt attempt to advise you technically, financially though if replacing the humped bits and selling as a working amp is viable id defo repair it,sellling it for spares usually means letting it go for peanuts, ive a Peavey mk111 bass head with shagged outputs and was led to beleive the power transformer was rare and worth selling along with other bits n bobs,on ebay it shot up to £0.99p.....and it was me that f***in bid for it...id fix it.
As an experiment I bought some really cheap slug repellent tape (less than £2 a roll) thinking I would have to solder the joins but in fact found the adhesive was perfectly conductive. Of course they may not all be same but it's worth a try as some of the stuff with conductive adhesive can be expensive. Another unforeseen benefit is that my control cavity has been completely free of slugs since the installation.
Nothing worse than slugs in yer cavity m8
Soldering the joints really isn't a big deal. And nor is checking them with a meter.
Stuff i got does fine m8,checking with a meter gives a zero resistance reading both sides....also states"suitable for guitar sheilding"

www.convertape.com bought a a4 size sheet off them last week for less than 4 quid delivered, only took 4 days from order too, highly recommend them.

DR Neon coated strings, anyone tried them?
dougie replied to robocorpse's topic in Accessories and Misc
OK, so they look great and will go down a storm live, but has anyone actually tried these? I'm double-loathe to drop the money on a set as they only come in 45-105, and I'm a '40s man (DR say they have no immediate plans to do other gauges)
I bought a set whilst half pissed bumming around on Ebay, could have got them cheaper if i bought them from one of the Yank Bayers but inc postage a set of green ones cost me just shy of 30 quid, ive put them on the shitiest bass i have to see if it sounded better(cheapo Marlin P),they definatley sounded better than the stock ones Marlin use(wouldnt be hard)...........as for worth 30 quid i dunno :unsure -
Agreed, a good low wattage iron is all you need for wiring. Gas irons are really useful though, and if yours has actually melted I reckon it could be faulty -- I have a trusty old Antex Gascat 75 which has certainly never got anywhere near melting, even after protracted use. Have you had it long? Might be worth taking back if not.
Ive the same Antex iron and had no probs, also got a draper one which came with hotknife attachments etc, handy for when your butter is too hard to spread on yer toast etc.
Changing pot values (eg 250k to 1meg) has a potential effect on tone, and obviously changing log to linear will alter how volume/tone changes across the range of the pot in question. Cap value also. Before getting stuck in to the argument about whether it's going to make a difference or not, you need to know what is being swapped for what! E.g. I've had basses where tone controls did nothing, were all or nothing, or had a smooth effect right across their range. Getting this last one is a worthwhile upgrade. Perhaps the cheap basses in question have had pots that were way out or poorly chosen cap values, etc. The wiring itself, though, it's such a short distance and signal levels are so low that changing this is hardly going to have any effect at all, I'd be amazed if anyone could hear it unless the wire that was being replaced was practically microscopic.
Yea once again totally agree, but forgetting improvement in sound quality,if you buy a cheap item of any description and can improve it with a better quality item,anything......even a better quality set of screws holding the scratch plate on or better less flimsy output jack etc its still improving it surely?maybe only my opinion but anything that improves it can only be a plus, honestly you would piss yourself laughing if you seen my"other"bass the Marlin P bass, its been described from a 1979 Ford Capri with furry dice to a tarts handbag, the strings cost 50% of the price the missus payed for the bass that fateful Xmas ,lets not forget that our passion for bass ranges from guys like me(a hobby only, never gigged)to the other end of th scale playing for a profession but one thing we all have in common is having fun, seriously no reason here for guys falling out over a debate about a lump of wiring.....peace.
When I solder, the plastic sleeve of the wire tends to melt quickly but the solder won't melt onto the wire. What am I doing wrong? Dan
What rating is your soldering iron?
