1. if you like throaty and burpy, and the streamer shape, give a spector a try. I had my hands on a Spector US spalted maple (EMG humbuckers) and wow! 2.4k was just too much though! It's a bit smaller than Streamer, almost 1/2 way between a streamer and a thumb. That or a Stage II, ultimate GAS. WIth 2K, the world's your oyster, especially second hand. speaking of Spectors...
2. I have a K5 and it's light. Much much lighter than my corvette 4 strings (these are boat anchors), about the same as the ACG (surprisingly light for a fancy 5 strings single cut). Probably the same weight as the SR505. I don't think you could get a lighter 5 strings. The body is small and comfy, the string spacing is pretty tight (16.5, 17 mm?)! I'd go with the ibby if you like it, they are very very well designed (weight, balance, feel, neck, hardware, even the pre is decent), and well priced. If it feels right for you, and you can get it at a good price, go for it. One slight issue with the K5, I don't like the Elixirs they put on (coated strings). If I can grab some scales, I can weight the K5, but it's definitely on the light side. for fun
3. because they think they have a sell? It's a shame, but there is probably someone, somewhere, who has that kind of cash for that sort of thing (maybe as an investment).
4. aren't these discontinued? I assume you are speaking of Ed Friedland's review. If not, it is well worth a watch.
5. try an Ibanez ATK. stingray ATK
6. it's good it comes with its trussrod too. ... He probably means the trussrod tool.
7. Their 'replacement', the Sterlings look very good, but more up-market (even more expensive than the ATK). EDIT : eek $1,000 list price for the ray35. I'd recon around £600-£700. Bloody expensive.
8.
Strangely though, both of my Corvette $$'s were quite light to say they were ash as well.
Swamp Ash vs 'baseball bat' ash!
9. that's not bad at all. Sort of an artsy Fortress (I get the Prince vibe as well). Cheesy inlays though. And the price tag, jeez...
10. tried a 415 and 615, strangely enough, I preferred the 415. May have been the strings. Good honest bass all round.
11. christ it's as big as the door! Looks kick ass though. congrats!
12. The Z5 has got a good reputation on TB. afaik, it's a bass you'll find mainly on the US market. The recurring comment is that it is a bit thin sounding, which could be a problem in a band context. another review http://www.bassplayer.tv/ at the bottom of the gear preview section.
13. I still maintain black hardware would suit them better. The Fortress would be my choice too.
14. to try, used Streamer Pro-M, used Corvette Bubinga active.
15. I wouldn\'t rule out the Traben, I\'d love to try one too. This is the Traben dealer list from the official UK distributor, contact them to see where you can find one to test drive. http://www.rosetti.co.uk/dealers.html and a topic on talkbass http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.p...ighlight=traben Oh yeah, remember the Traben is 35\'\', not sure about the string spacing. If the SR505 is anything like my K5 (which it should be), the string spacing is tight (16.5 mm?). Another contender as well, http://www.musik-schmidt.de/products/gb/Ba...tural-Flat.html
16. the Streamer LX is the bolt on version, and it's the cheapest of the range Also, the streamer Jazzman (j-mm pickups), and the Warwick Streamer $$ is bolt on (maple neck instead of the usual ovangkol). The ying yang inlayed Streamer is the Stage II, mucho dineros. For older Streamers, there is the Streamer Standard, which is the precursor to their Rockbass range, and also the Streamer Pro M, twin-jazz pickups, dual preamp, with bolt-on wenge neck. Very nice imo. Seth Horan's old #1 bass. Oh yeah, and their LTD 2008 with wooden pickup covers, and very sexy.
17. as far as I remember, It's a special order from a german store, they made like a dozen of then, spelling the name of the store. Anyway, there's a story behind that (imo) ugly paint job
18. played a corvette standard swamp ash passive, very mellow, very woody earthy (hey?) tone. lovely. Was a 4 string though. http://www.thomann.de/gb/warwick_corvette_std_5_nat.htm more expensive, 30 days return policy though.
19. they keep sending their catalogue... from Germany! I must stop that I bought a Corvette $$ a while ago from them, no problem at all. Oh yeah, it had gold hardware instead of black, but I suppose these things happen.
20. hard to tell, no info on the site. http://www.tanglewoodguitars.co.uk/product...amp;view=search Looks nice enough though, for a starter bass. Passive P / J, rosewood FB, body... synthetic? I cant imagine they would contour the body like that if it was wood. Very cheap (sub £120 apparently).
21. Meshuggah - Obzen Skalpel Massive Attack - 100th Window Marvin Gaye - Best Of Beastie Boys - Ill Communication Motorhead - Inferno That's about it... Pretty eclectic, but nothing 'that' new or ground braking (Meshuggah's pretty bonkers though).
