I’ll play - I’ve ended up with two Markbass Little Mark heads and three 2x10 cabs (a traveller and two standards.) For what I’m after, one traveller plus one standard is the best sound of the lot. Plus I’m an old fart now and this is light enough for me to move easily and stick in the van.

Selling this lovely Sandberg padded bass gig bag. Bought during the 2020 lockdown and only used a handful of times since. Really very good condition all over - all the zips and straps work perfectly, and no tears or scuffs inside or outside. Couple of nice big useful pockets on the front with plenty of room for packs of strings, leads, sheet music etc. It’s a soft padded case but robust and rigid enough to stand up by itself, if you know what I mean! It’s been stored in smoke-free and pet-free home. Looking for £30 collected in Leicestershire or happy to deliver for extra charge (probably about a tenner extra I’d guess). Cheers folks. Fire away if any questions. Now sold thanks.

Just after a bit of advice from the collective BC pool of wisdom really. I’ve insured my kit with these guys for many years, and it’s due for renewal. Surprised to find they don’t hold a detailed schedule of what I’ve got insured with them ( no descriptions or serial numbers etc) - just general totals for PA, instruments, amps etc. I don’t know what’s currently insured with them or not, so can’t tell them if it’s correct. They said if I needed to claim I’d have to provide a receipt for the item - I don’t know about you, but I don’t have receipts for instruments I bought 10 or 20 years ago. Without that, I’m struggling to see the point. So my questions are: 1. Is this approach typical? 2. Are there any other insurance companies people would recommend? I looked at MU insurance but I’m not a MU member. Any thoughts - fire away!

2013 MIJ Mustang with the tort guard swapped for a white one. Currently strung with Daddario roundwounds for a most excellent growl. I bought it a few years ago and just love it.

Gotta love a competition stripe Mustang. One day, one day…

Yup I’ve got a LM3 and one of these cabs, which I pair with a larger STD102HF for big gigs. It’s ace. Lovely and punchy too. -

Ah these are great basses. I bought one years ago as a spare but it quickly became a “go to” bass for most gigs. Versatile, well built, nice bit of kit. Im pondering whether there’s any mileage in me getting this one (they really are that good) but it does seem a bit greedy! GLWTS tho - excellent basses. -
Popped round to Brian’s to pick up some free PA stands he was very generously giving away. A top BC’er.

I had two natural Thunder 1As years back (my third and fourth bass I think, back in the late 80s/early 90s). I remember them being decent rather than spectacular, but then I think they only cost me £80 each including a case so can’t complain!

PM'd i'll happily pop by and get these if still available. Only just noticed them!

We played at a local village festival, and England had some important international footie match to play that same evening (I forget which - I wasn’t following). We were camping over so we could have a few drinks and enjoy the nice sunny afternoon. I’d brought my own little two-man tent. The rest of the band decided they’d share this big khaki tent the keyboard player assured us was brilliant. No one could figure out how to put it up, and the decision was made “let’s just watch the football and put it up later.” Later turned out to be very dark, and everyone several beers worse for wear, at which point it became obvious it wasn’t actually a tent - it was an awning for a caravan, and no way was it going to work by itself. Making the best of it they just laid down under it like a massive duvet and passed out. I crawled off to bed in my little tent just as it started raining heavily. And England got beaten after all that.

Did a wedding at which the organisers had massively overbooked other singers/pianist/string quartet etc at (plus the usual overrunning programme of speeches etc). We spent most of the evening sitting around in a comfy side room, while the organiser periodically popped her head in to say “sorry about this -not long now etc.” I think we set up and played for 35 minutes in the end before they ran out of time. Bizarre.

Travelled from Wales to Stoke many years ago when I was a teenager to play a gig. I went with my dad, while the guitarist and singer shared another car. We got home safely in the early hours, but the singer/guitarist’s car did less well. Some spectacular wrong turns later they ended up on the outskirts of London at about 4am (a good four hour drive away from their intended destination). I’d have teased them more about it except I didn’t drive at the time so didn’t have a leg to stand on!

Mostly dark jeans and a crisp shirt of some sort nowadays. Covers most eventualities.

Sold him by Genz Benz 2x12 cab. Had a good chat about all things musical and noodled on various basses. Easy transaction, good Basschatter and a thoroughly nice chap.

Unexpected bass playing injuries
bassbiscuits replied to Leonard Smalls's topic in General Discussion
Was playing guitar on one occasion and went for a heroic downstroke and smacked the corner of the neck pickup right under the nail of my right index finger. It was beyond painful. Been smacked in the mouth (by my mic) many times by drunk punters dancing into my mic stand. And got a load of broken glass in my hand at the end of a gig once from the shards stuck to the gaffer tape i’d used to tape down some cables. -
Probably safe in MIA territory then.

Another Leicesterfarian here (we’ll just over the border into Harborough district nowadays) Howard Smith is highly recommended. He’s done all my bass and guitar repairs and set ups since I moved here 18 years ago. Top man indeed. Welcome aboard @Ian Somerville

Been playing theatre gigs since last summer using a 500w Markbass LM2 and two Markbass 2x10 cabs. It’s all very lightweight and modular, never been short on volume onstage, and easy to transport. Gigs that size will have a big FOH system and decent monitors or IEMs anyway, and for smaller gigs I can get by with a one of the cabs. Im also from the era of “big is best” cabs, but having lugged around 8x10s, 4x10s and various combinations thereof over the last 30 or so years I just don’t want to do it anymore.
