  1. That’s a fair point Steve - I can’t argue with that. Im not advocating humiliating other band members and I wouldn’t want to make anyone feel uncomfortable if I knew they didn’t want to do something. I was just surprised so many people felt so strongly about the proposition of taking a bass solo if called upon. All my gigs currently are dep jobs where I do my best to fit in with the vibe of what’s going on around me. If that included being called upon spontaneously to solo I wouldn’t dream of refusing - I’d just do something hopefully adequate and move on.
  2. Dear me! I thought live performance was supposed to be fun? I don’t often need to play bass solos, and have nothing prepared, but I’m pretty sure I could improvise my way thru a few bars of something without being too precious if the situation called for it….
  3. Aye. I’ve bust a few bass strings along the way playing fingerstyle - turned out string wear on the bridge saddles had made some sharp edged grooves.
  4. I’ve got this on an old precision. You can barely see the side dots at all. I’d assumed it was an age thing (the bass and mine…).
  5. Very cool rig! I’ve got a similar set up using a P bass thru a LM3 and into a Traveller 102P paired with a STD102HF cab. It’s been my go-to rig for all the gigs I’ve done post lockdown (about 10 so far). So light and portable but really loud.
  6. Bought a Markbass STD102HF cab from Chris. Drove over to pick it up, had a chat about bass, deal done, drove home. No hassles, nice guy and a good bit of kit too.
  7. Maybe, but still solid wedding band fare (I can also think of tunes by Coldplay and Maroon 5 that would go down nicely.) I can’t defend Nickelback tho in fairness!
  8. That’s weddings for you. Not the time to try out something alternative or challenging for listeners - keep it simple and upbeat and keep people happy.
  9. Good call. I’ve played that a few times at weddings / parties / campfires over the summer and it’s always gone down well. It’s safe too, so perfect for a mixed age audience etc.
  10. I had a s/h JC Bass some time ago which came strung with TI flats - really suited the vibe and sound of it too. It came with a fairly battered old hard case but I managed to find a newer s/h Epiphone fitted case which was lovely quality and fitted it snugly. Lovely basses tho and much more versatile than I expected.
  11. Best: A pair of KZ ZS10 Pro IEMs and a Behringer headphone amp. My first step into the world of in-ear monitoring and a game-changer for me. Honourable mention too for my Vox Amplug headphone amp - not the best made piece of kit in the world but invaluable for me playing at home. Worst: Honestly nothing - a few bits I haven’t got round to using yet, but nothing that’s actually bad.
  12. Hi Saskia and welcome aboard. Hope you enjoy the occasional flashes of brilliance that are on Basschat, and the marketplace where I’ve spent far too much time and money….
  13. I was really surprised to play a real T Bird and find it sleek and beautiful, rather than the barn door that my Tokai was. Live and learn eh?
  14. I had one - weighed a tonne, sounded average at best, uncomfortable and huge to play. Looked cool tho. Didn’t keep it long. It was only a few years later when I played a real Gibson T-Bird that I realised how far off the mark the Tokai one was.
  15. Bump. I’d forgotten about this!
  16. I’ve still got my old Arion tuner from Christmas 1986 and it still works perfectly!
  17. Fiesta Eco Boost - fairly low emissions from 1L engine. Fits a Markbass STD102HF on the back seat, a Markbass Traveller 102P in the boot, two basses in the front seat/footwell and the various bags, mic stands and amp heads fitted in around it all. I’ve also got a Volvo V70 which obviously takes every bit of gear I’ve ever owned, but in terms of small, efficient and low- emission vehicles, the Fiesta works a treat for me.
  18. Nice straps these. You might get more interest if you add details of what size / length it is, whether it’s the bass or guitar version etc.
  19. Forgotten to bump this, but it’s still available, giving a whole load of effects and shenanigans for a mere £50…
  20. Just taken collection of a Boss chorus pedal from Dan. Easy transaction and great pedal.
  21. Ah…. Those were the days. I had two of these basses at one point in the late 80s. Good bits of kit.
  22. Paul bought my Schroeder cab - nice guy, had a good chat about things bass and amp related and the whole transaction was easy.
