I think the one for sale on here is a bargain

As a lifelong Gibson Les Paul fan (for the sound) I`ve regrettably established that I don`t play them very well, so on my guitar journey I`ve now come across the Fender Telecaster Deluxe, essentially a Tele but with the same humbucker pickup set-up/controls as a Les Paul. Additionally due to the longer scale and 12" fretboard radius they`re a doddle for a bassist to swap across to. Worth checking out.

I love the bass line to Walk Like An Egyptian, simple but very effective.

For the OCD-ers I’d suggest the Ashdown ABM410 EVO-IV version. Much tighter sounding than the previous range, superb cabs.

The last bass I bought after actually trying it out was about a year ago, the norm for me is buying on here or ebay. To date I’ve never had a bad purchase.

Yep, I’ve heard that even if you buy a seat for a guitar/bass they can still insist on it going in the hold, though never heard of this actually happening to anyone. Fir me it’s a cheaper instrument in a Hiscox in the hold, then worry constantly until it’s back in my hands.

It will be fine if adding another 4ohm cab in, the cabs will each take half of the power, the only problems will be your back and suspension I suspect, plus finding a venue with a stage big enough (but I`ll bet it will sound great).

That is one very full-on sounding bass.

Yep, make sure the amp can do 2ohms, not many on the market can.

This is one of the reasons I use a preamp pedal for my eq - only in my case it was unfamiliar amps at gigs rather than rehearsal rooms. Plug it all in, set the amp to approximate flat (12 o’clock on bass/mids/treble) then identify what needs removing - usually low end due to voicing on the speakers.

There’s a thread on Talkbass about the SKB Bass adage and which gig-bags do fit in it.

I’ve always used a Hiscox case. I wrap a towel around the neck to stop movement in the case and never had any problems.

Their customer service is an example that many other companies could - and should - learn from.

Agree, I find it amazing that basslines that were thought of as great, once isolated are then pulled apart for not being technically perfect. Maybe it was that lack of perfection that gave it the feel that made us all think it was great.

Agree, whilst at the time I didn’t know much about them, RW looked like he’d had the time of his life, whereas DG just looked decidedly uncomfortable in his presence.

I remember when I bought mine, drove to Bristol straight after work to pick it up, turned up in the shop suited and booted. The guy in the shop probably thought middle-aged bloke trying to get hip, so gave me this bass that must have been made of balsa wood or something. Anyway I steamed in to some good old Jam riffs to which he probably re-evaluated and realised I could play and said, wait there, went upstairs and returned with a Rickenbacker and said try that. Putting that amp through its paces with a quality bass like a Rick was just great, those Jam riffs suddenly sounded a lot better. There`s a real authority to the DBS sound, and it really works in a band mix. I loved mine but decided to go Ampeg, then my band split up a week after. Must have been an omen!
