I’d be tempted by the blue one if it didn’t have matching headstock, for some reason I just don’t like those.

That was my experience on the originals circuit too, much more pleasant crowds and environment.

Not in my area, but Maf of Dirtbox Disco & Spunk Volcano & The Eruptions is an amazing drummer. He hardly looks like he’s even tickling the kit but the amount of sound that he generates is amazing. Additionally he’ll swap hands on the hi-hat every now & then, and when I asked him about it he says he does it when he gets a bit tired. Quality!

I like nickels on my Jazz basses, tames the highs a tad and makes the sound a bit fuller, but go for steels on my Precisions. For P/J basses I still go the steel route.

Buy a Hiscox case for it, when you get here sell the case, you’ll probably get half, maybe two thirds of the money back.

Their DBS amps were great (no experience of the DBS cabs), and the VB range were also pretty impressive. Problem was their quality bass gear was heavy as anything, great sounds though, I loved my DBS4000/VBC412 rig, whilst I could manage to cart it about.

Looks good, having just got a Professional Precision mk1 if the mk2 is an improvement it will be a heck of an instrument as I’m very impressed with said mk1.

That’s a great point, and probably why although I loved the playability of the Stingrays I’ve had I just don’t get on with them that well, as I’m so used to playing a certain way to get that focused attack on passive basses.

Blackstar sponsored a gig I went to a couple of years back, and I thought the bass combo & cab sounded great.

When I was in my last band, an originals punk band, I found loads of great new bands on the scene. Obviously I wouldn’t have known about them had I missed out on them but I’m glad I didn’t.

Speaking only for myself Stevie, I’ve found that basses/amps/cabs that I really like the sound of isolated in general don’t work for me in a band setting, I can just never seem to get what I want from them. Knowing that now I’m objective enough to not fall for them isolated, but in the past, until I realised that gear I thought was a bit “meh” isolated worked best for me, trying in a band scenario was the only way I’d establish if gear was right for me. I suppose we all have our own ways of learning and that was mine, did take a while for the penny to drop I have to say.

Got to be the best way as a customer to try a cab, and from a retailer point sell a cab.

Whilst I wouldn’t particularly credit racists with great intelligence Eric Clapton would need to be a spectacularly stupid one, given the music that influenced him. And re Tears in Heaven, beautifully sad song and given the subject matter I always wonder how he manages to perform it live without breaking down.

I really like them Dave, I do think the Custom Shop 60s that were in the previous US Standards are a bit better but not to the point where I’ll replace the V-Mods, so there’s not much in it. Decent pickups, a bit more modern sounding is how I’d describe them.

That is a beautiful instrument, just looks stunning.

If matching the amount of sound the Ampeg 410 makes then I’d be looking at a 212 from the selected cabs. The Barefaced Big Twin or Super Twin would be plenty enough to cover what you need. Other than that the Markbass cab would be more similar sounding to the Ampeg. But as others have said, maybe two smaller cabs such as 112s or 210s. I use two Ashdown RM210s and it’s much easier to cart these two smaller lighter cabs about than one heavier cab, plus stacked I can hear them better as well (the speakers in them are diagonally arranged so they are squarish in shape so stack nice and tall). They wouldn’t sound too far from the Ampeg if you want to recreate the same sound.

Yep, I recently sold my beloved Ashdown ABM set up as I just can’t manage that kind of gear anymore. Luckily my Ashdown RM set up is almost as good.
