The mods should really move this post to the "Other instruments" section. It's not a bass.

So after 15 minutes in this shop I bought this...
These are part of the American Special range, which don`t come with hard-case, but should have a gig-bag. They are a fair bit cheaper than the US Standard range, which I`m sure accounts for the lack of hard-case.
Not string thru I see. -

Smoke machines - a couple of issues?
The Dark Lord replied to The Dark Lord's topic in Accessories and Misc
This is actually a common misconception. Unless you're referring to dry-ice low-fog machines (which I'd suggest you avoid unless you seriously know what you're doing), fog and smoke are just different names for the same effect. With fire alarms, the trick is talking to the venue. Some venues can isolate and turn-off certain areas - this is ideal, but mostly found in theatres. If a venue has a heat-based (rate of temperature rise usually) fire alarms, you're fine. If they have smoke alarms then there's a good chance that any atmospheric effect will set it off (smoke or haze). With regards to smoke vs haze, the question is what effect you want to achieve. Haze, if used properly, is basically invisible. It serves purely to enhance lighting and make the beams visible. Smoke on the other hand is the white billowing effect you'd expect. I actually work in this industry, so if you've got any questions I'd be happy to help as best I can.
Is the correct answer! I'll PM you with a lighting set up question if ya don't mind ........ or maybe I should do it on here so everyone can see? -
........better than a USA Precision? /discuss
That will be difficult to achieve. It's a bit like saying you want a bird wots classier than Pippa Middleton in that bridesmaid's dress.

Smoke machines - a couple of issues?
The Dark Lord replied to The Dark Lord's topic in Accessories and Misc
Cool. Had never heard of a haze machine before. I'll surf. -
I have a couple of questions about smoke machines. Just bought a new set up LED lights ........ 5 x QTX SP-SW, a t-bar lighting stand and a couple of their footswitches. I gotta say they are ....... awesome. Here's the thing. We fancy getting a smoke machine to make the lights look more dramatic - mainly just for the closing number of the set. Do they set the smoke alarms off in the pub / club? Do landlords get annoyed when you use them ..... we play in small to medium places. I guess we wouldn't use them for the very small things .... but are they okay to use .... or do you get told off?

Did the salesman's nose grow longer as you were speaking to him? $23K - yeah right. No need to rush back home to get your wallet for this one.
good stuff... We do heroes, hanging around and peaches
No More Heroes and the Hugh Cornwell (2011) version of Golden Brown here ...... although thinking of Peaches and Something Better Change (although not all in the same set usually).
Baroque Bordello is another one
Don't know if you are aware of this, but the great exalted one in black, who shows us all how a bass player should be, whose name we are not worthy to mention and without whom we would all be lesser musicians (like drummers or guitarists) ....... claims that Baroque Bordello is his own favourite Stranglers song of all time - see the following: http://www.punk77.co...burnelin055.htm It should, therefore, be made a crime not to study this track weekly.

think the police might be owed some royalties on this one

Nothing overly Police-like about this to me. The drums would have to be considerably better than this to sound Police-like. -

shergold marathon fretless ending soon kent
The Dark Lord replied to stu_g's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
That's a blast from the past. Is it just me, or is the E string a little but close to the edge of the fingerboard up at the dusty end? -
You did when you said "as for basses I don't like, anything fender" that may lead us to feel you have a somewhat frosty opinion on old fender
Stephen. Sorry. I didn't realise I said that. I missed out a rather important word "non-" I meant to say non-Fender. I'll go back and correct that then. Thank you. -
Really? I think Rickenbacker have a right to protect their copyright but to pursue basses made in the 80's before they had the rights pinned down and to target private sellers with aggression and threats just makes them come accross like a right bunch of C U Next TuesdayS. I understand that Rickenbacker wan't to continue to make low quality, uncomfortable low output relics to a labour intensive tempelate, in the usa exclusivley...well done to them. Maybe instaed of targetting private sellers of pre-lawsuit basses they should address the problem inherant with all ricks....un-dressable frets, poorly laquered fret boards and unacceptable fret ware, unweildy body shape that cripples the wrist etc etc etc.
I don't like Ric basses either. I have had both the 4001 and 4003 in the past. They LOOK amazing, but I couldn't get on with them. I agree they are a bit flawed too - as I also found them a bit difficult to play. The point I was making - which I've made on here before - is that I dislike people copying things. I think it is lazy designing AND a cynical business practice. I've heard the argument that "well Fender need to improve their quality and model range etc". Fine. Go ahead. Make a better bass than Fender - but don't copy their design, either mostly or wholesale. The issue to me is not whether it is copyright or not - it's just ugly plagiarism. Be original is what I say to people - and if you feel you can't make a success by doing that, as no-one will buy your basses - then don't make basses. -
W.H.A.T!!!???!!! Aerodyne jazzes look and sound great in general! i don't know if you have played one for long, but it was maybe a bit of a dud. you might be biased because of your dislike of fender.
I played one yesterday in Ford Lane Studios. A sort of P/J one with a Jazz neck and control plate thing. When I say "played" - I picked it up, had a twiddle - played it briefly through the Sansamp DI device - and agreed with the engineer that it didn't sound a patch on my USA Hot Rodded or USA Standard - which were the two I had been playing already during the session. I personally think the Aerodyne's are lower quality compromise basses. But it's only my opinion. And I dislike Fender do I? (I must update my signature to include the three Fender Telecasters that I have ....... they're errmm .... all black). -
Rickenbackers piss me off so much due to the attitude of the company that makes them.
Rickenbacker object to people making copies of their basses? Quite right too. People should make their own original looking basses. As for basses that I don't like ..... anything non-Fender but also those Fender Aerodyne Jazz and Precisions or P/Js or whatever both look and sound horrible. They really should have been badged as Squiers. Sorry. I missed out a rather crucial word in this post originally as noted above. -
