BTW (I might get shot for this but lets see - please remove if not allowed) I'm currently selling a tidy and reliable 2004 Citroen Berlingo Van which runs great, has in last year had new clutch, battery, radiator and starter motor. 96K on the clock and will take £1k for it.

Another v70 here. Totally flat floor when seats folded down, self levelling suspension and enough room for my amp, basses, 2x pa tops, 2x pa subs, mixer, cable flight trunk, stands, 2x equinox megabar light sets and still a seat for the singer too. I've now got a brand new transit connect lwb that would carry that lot 3x over and insurance is only £232 a year fully comp on that (I'm 40 and have clean licence).

‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’ - bass sound (how?)
mrtcat replied to Skol303's topic in General Discussion
When we play it I just use an envelope filter (discumbobulator) on the low setting. -
I would go to a pub to watch bands that aren't doing rock. I don't like classic rock particularly so would love to have some other options. I don't play pubs very often as I play in a function band which I joined because I a) want regular gigs and want to play a wide variety of styles including old and new. I think the downturn in pub gigs is due to all combinations of the following (and probably more): Smoking ban Rising cost of drinks Bigger variety of drinks available on supermarkets X factor type TV Lazy unimaginative landlords Lazy unimaginative bands Food sales being bigger earners Young people having different interests Loud bands Bands wanting to take more money than they make for the venue. Etc Etc Etc

Off to the snow this coming weekend for a week. Leaving wife and daughter behind which is tough but looking forward to a relaxing non alcohol fueled week to recharge. Looking for some recommendations to go on my MP3 player. I really fancy something with funky grooves but modern production. I've enjoyed stuff like Daft Punk's Random Access Memoirs recently as the production is so good so anything of that ilk would be great. What is out there?

My UE900s arrived yesterday. Got them from Toby deals for £174.99 inc delivery but the trade off is it took 12 days for them to arrive. As mentioned before I've been using mee m6s until now. Initial impressions are that the UE900s are a big step up. Just a much stronger, more balanced and more detailed sound with bass that is solid and not boomy. Not as comfortable as I had hoped but I'm having them re-shelled into custom moulds at the end of the month anyway so a moot point for me. I'll update once that's done.
A fabulous looking thing; congrats. I saw this on FB as well and it had me reconsidering my colour choice for my upcoming build. I must remain strong and stick to my guns (my homebrew Telecaster has this colour scheme already).
Haha be strong. After placing the order I had a bit of a wobble and thought maybe blue wasn't the right choice. Now I've seen the pics I'm confident that it was. I got to choose the piece of flamed maple for the top and am really pleased with that too.
That is stunning, the finish almost looks wet. You'll have some fun with it. I had my L5 out yesterday after playing the Jake exclusively for a month or so as I'm trying to decide which to use for a session later this month, and I was shocked at how easy it is to play, I'd kinda forgotten. Yours has more knobs though, so it must be even more fun!
Thanks NickD, I went for an L5 after a friend lent me his for a gig. Was so comfortable to play and the neck was the just perfect.

Adrian emailed me this evening to let me know that this is now ready and will be on its way this week. Has anyone gone from lightweight back to heavy?
mrtcat replied to AndyTravis's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yep. This year I started out with a gk mb500 fusion and changed to an aguilar db750. The weight doesn't bother me as I'm fit and strong so don't find it a chore to move. The sound quality is a world apart and I'll not go back to lightweight in a hurry. Seriously considering swapping my TCS cabs for an aguilar db 212 or 410 next. -
PA rant! Having your own PA rant! Rehearsal rant too!

Any guitarist happy to blow the front of house mix for his own selfish reasons isn't a star. He's an idiot. Get shot of him. As said before, simply stop taking the monitors as they only benefit the other guys. Let them fight over who stores them. In ear monitoring is the future so you're absolutely right to pursue it. -
Had a quick look at this and did a quick double take when I saw Chris on drums. He's been my regular dep over the last year or so. Great bloke n great drummer! Ooh and nice vid!
Yeah he's a class player and a great guy. I've done a couple of projects with him and he is really easy to play with.

Made this little video using nothing but 4 really cheap (£25 each) fake go pro cameras at soundcheck at a wedding on 17th Dec. Far from perfect but we basically just played a medley through 3 times whilst guests were outside having drinks and photos done in a separate building. Between takes we moved the cameras to new spots or on guitars. Audio was recorded from a single take on the mixer (behringer XR18) and we edited it together using free video software (lightworks). Anyone else got any super low budget videos out there?

Hartke are a disgrace in my opinion. I had so much trouble with a Kilo that I ended up £800 out of pocket when they refused to admit that it was a flawed product. I had it repaired by the UK distributor and a guy called Gareth from hartke even got involved on here. He made big public gestures saying he'd help if I ever had another problem. Funnily enough when it broke again just two hours after I got it back (complete with a damaged front panel caused by their tech) he washed his hands of all involvement and I ended up taking it to the tip. After that I would never trust hartke and their crap service ever again.

We have the le maitre MVS and it's a really really good bit of kit. Not cheap by any means but gives a very even classy effect. We use it set to very low density as we're after fine atmospheric haze like you'd expect in a theatre not a really heavy swirly effect like you'd expect in a pub. Can definitely recommend, Le maitre stuff is quality.

Saw them in Birmingham last Sunday. Really enjoyed it and thought that the energy was great. Felt like a fairly short gig and as someone who still feels they were at their best up to (and including) Blood Sugar Sex Magic I'd have liked to hear more early stuff but was definitely really happy to have seen them at the end of the night. On a side note, as it was the first big gig I've been to in years, I thought the venue was excellent (really quick bar queues, super clean loos) and the sound was great. BabyMetal were equal parts scary, tight, cute and bizarre. Actually quite enjoyed them.

HD350s used to suffer from a background distortion caused by an earth problem (something to do with the control knobs) that was only noticeable at low volume. It was still there at gig volume but was masked by the main clean sound as it got louder.

We don't usually play pubs and generally stick to function work. We have an agent that occasionally contacts us to see if we are available for the odd short notice pub gig. They know that, if we do it, we will only be the 4 core members and that £400 is minimum fee. We replace keys with backing tracks on some songs and we all sing. So far we've had 26 of these gigs this year. Most are Thursday or the odd Friday nights and are just at regular pubs. We get £400 - £500 a time. There's no way the pub covers costs but they just keep coming. Whenever we've asked the landlords how they make it pay they just say that the brewery subsidises. Can't understand the business logic myself but is nice to have these little low pressure bookings to supplement our other work.

Maruszczyk Elwood L 5 is my 5 of choice at the moment. Light, comfortable, beautiful sound and really versatile.

Electric kit and IEM's. We can rehearse anywhere where un amplified singing is acceptable and none of us ever go home with ringing ears. If guitarist or anyone wants to turn up that's absolutely no issue as he just turns up in his own mix. Also means we never pay for rehearsal space.
