1. Nice to see that there's a perfectly rational explanation for it all!
2. I was just about to ask what kind of Precision bass it was, and now it's a Jazz bass!?
3.
But surely every band has only one drummer and bass player, often shared between bands. So how come so few bass mags and so many drum ones ?
It's a status thing - being able to read doesn't carry the same prestige for bassists as it does for drummers!
4.
I've just bought this Godin! Luckily a friend of mine was in the area so he could collect - I won't see it in the flesh though until the weekend. This will be my 3rd Godin bass and certainly the cheapest. My mate who collected it says its in great condition. The price for a Canadian parts US assembled bass made it a no-brainer; I don't understand why their resale value is so low. Same for some of the US Peaveys too.
Congratulations - you got a bargain! I had/still have one of these in blue. Very good bass for the money I paid (£300, in 1999) with a fantastic neck. I found that the body shape made it a bit of a neck-diver, and ended up putting the neck and hardware onto a Precision body, and it's still my main bass today.
5. Just received the Ultralites I bought from Funkle yesterday - super-fast delivery and a pleasure to deal with. Thanks Pete!
6. Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself - the Note's one of my favourite places.
7.
hey, the deep fried mars bar is a east coast thing.
Until they changed owners recently, my local chippy had a dessert section on their takeaway menus. The options were Deep Fried Mars Bar, or Deep Fried Freddo (for the kids).
8. Is there anything on at the Barras on a week day? Last time I was there it was grim enough on a Saturday.
9. Meh - the naysayers are idiots - Glasgow's a great place for a wander. From Central station, head down Jamaica Street to Kenny's Music for a look round, then nip along Howard Street, up through St Enoch Square to House of Fraser. When the missus is distracted by the shiny things, nip out another exit and bolt up Buchanan Street, hang a right at All Saints, through Royal Exchange Square (passing the Gallery of Modern Art and the statue of the Duke of Roadcone) and along Ingram Street. Down Glassford Street at, and into Garth Street for Merchant City Music. From there, down towards Argyle Street, then east a bit and down King Street for a pint at the 13th Note, then across the road to Strung Out Guitars, into Mono for another pint and a look round Monorail records, then back up onto Argyle Street for Guitar Guitar. Swiftly back along Argyle St to Buchanan St again where the missus will be waiting irately at the corner. Tell her you got lost on the way to the changing rooms.
10.
I think the issue with Flea and RHCP is that musically he overshadows the band. I doubt whether anyone who rates Flea as a bass player, but isn't particularly a RHCP fan could name either the drummer or the current guitarist.
Oh! Oh! I know this one -the drummer's Will Ferrell!
11. That's a very good price for a Highway 1. I'd be tempted if I had any space/need for it!
12. The Chain (Fleetwood Mac) Green Onions (Booker T & The MGs) Money (Pink Floyd) Peter Gunn Theme Pink Panther Theme Mission Impossible Theme
13. Funnily enough, I was out drinking in London with some friends last night. There was a bloke in the corner of the pub who seemed to be having a bit of trouble getting his phone connected to the wi-fi, but one he got on, he settled down a bit, only twitching and making small screaming noises every so often, and at one point seemed to sing a quick burst of "If I were a rich man, sosososo". He quietened down eventually. Other than that, it was a pretty average night at the pub. Dave started talking about missing his ex-girlfriend halfway through his fifth pint, exactly on cue, then headed off to meet some new girl after his eighth. Steve turned up just after Dave's eighth pint, when he knew it was safe to talk about how much he's enjoying Dave's ex-girlfriend. Rob attempted to chat up the barmaid with little success, again. Andy's club flyer origami sculptures are getting more obscene. One thing which stilted the atmosphere (other than the odd guy in the corner) was that it was raining, kicked up some odd smells from the canal outside for the wind to waft through the door, and there seemed to be some commotion getting a narrowboat up to the next section of the canal. Which pub was it? It was the Inn Before the Lock.
14. I had a quick play on one in Dawsons in Manchester back in April. I wasn't plugged in, and I've never played an original RD to compare. I found the body shape surprisingly comfortable, but the neck was too baseball-bat-like for my liking and the finish on the neck wasn't great on that particular instrument (there were a couple of runs in the paint which made it look cheap- not what I'd expect for the money). By way of contrast, the Gibson SG Bass (heritage cherry) was very well finished, was lightweight and played so nicely that I very nearly bought it!
15. FWIW I've found there to be a lot of variance in the weights of the Lakland Skyline basses I've tried. The Lakland Decade I tried in Guitar Guitar in Newcastle was very heavy indeed, but the one I ended up buying (Kenny's Music in Dumfermline) was fine. The one that's currently in the Glasgow Guitar Guitar is about the same weight as mine.
16. I'm now the proud owner of the fretless - bump for a great seller and a good-looking Geddy!
17. I bought a Squier VMJ Fretless from him. Top bloke to deal with - good communications, quick delivery - the transaction was a breeze! Deal in confidence - highly recommended!
18. I bought a pickup from Nick - fast response to messages and speedy delivery. Recommended!
19. No chance of an encore at the Glasgow gig last night - about an hour into their set, the power in the building went off!
20. Some kind of auto-lock thing where x months after the last post, the thread is automatically locked (but giving the thread starter the ability to unlock it), would be good.
21. Ryan bought a graphite neck from me. Top bloke - fast payment, quick response to PMs. Recommended!
22. This is a 22 fret Moses graphite jazz bass neck, with Gotoh GB-29 (reverse geared) machine heads installed. It was previously mounted on a Warmoth jazz bass body, so should mount directly on anything with a standard Fender Jazz/Precision neck pocket and screw-hole pattern. It has threaded inserts for the neck screws, and I'll include the neck screws as well, since they're machine-threaded instead of the usual wood-threaded screws used to attach necks. The neck has a graphite nut installed, cut for D'Addario EXL 170 strings (.045, .065, .080, .100). The machines are Gotoh GB-29s, the reverse-geared version of the Gotoh GB-2. Standard open-gear design, with the ability to adjust the tension of the gearing using an allen key. All work to install it was carried out by Jimmy Egypt at CC Music in Glasgow. [s]I'm looking for £180 for it. [/s] SOLD
23.
Any chance of a close up of head?
Now you're just being filthy. BTW, this used to be my bass. Since he's not been around much, I'm sure Lysdexia won't mind me saying that back in June, he'd decided not to sell it after all. At the time he was after a white Jazz with blocks & binding, but I think he was enjoying it too much!
24. Top tip: If you're on a showcase/battle of the bands type bill at a mini-festival, and they're running really late and still have several other bands to put on, and it's raining, and there's only twenty people in the audience, and your drummer has already noised up the sound guy, don't attempt to do a song with a false ending. You won't get to do the real ending.
