1. BUMP and price drop - £200. These are great guitars for not a lot of money!
  2. [s]The Hipshot Tuners have been sold separately, so price drop to £120.[/s] SOLD For sale is my Warmoth bass neck: Specs are:

4-string,
34" scale length,
21 frets (medium - not sure the exact gauge)
Jazz width at nut
Standard Fender neck pocket dimensions (see Warmoth's site for details)
Telecaster headstock shape
Steel reinforcement rods
Maple Neck
Rosewood fretboard
Factory finished in gloss varnish by Warmoth
Excellent condition - no dings or scrapes, no fretwear. Drilled for a standard Fender (actually Warmoth) body. I'd prefer pickup/delivery in the Glasgow/West of Scotland area, and can also do pickup/delivery in the Northeast of England (Newcastle/Sunderland/Durham) or anywhere along the M74/A69 while I'm driving up or down (I do so fairly frequently). I can also post it. Payment by bank transfer or Paypal. 3. Price Drop: £420 For sale is my Fender Thinline Telecaster, in Lake Placid Blue. It's a Fender Mexico reissue of the '72 Thinline Tele with two wide range humbuckers. (Note that the Jazz in the background is not for sale!) Really good condition - I've never gigged it, but before I owned it, it took a knock and picked up a crack to the paintwork down the back of the neck-body joint. It's only through the paintwork and isn't structural: Comes with a Squier gig bag. Ideally, I'd prefer pickup/delivery in the Glasgow/West of Scotland area, and can also do pickup/delivery in the Northeast of England (Newcastle/Sunderland/Durham) or anywhere along the M74/A69 while I'm driving up or down (I do so fairly frequently). I've now got a box, so I can now also post it. Payment by bank transfer or Paypal. Any questions, get in touch. 4. Price drop to £180 and postage options added. This is a Korean-made Ibanez SZ320 guitar in black. Might look a bit Strat-shaped, but it has a carved top, set neck, twin humbuckers, and Ibanez's take on the tune-o-matic bridge (with through-body stringing) so there's more Les Paul DNA in there. Fantastic build quality - there's a lot of guitar for the money! I've had it a few years, and it's picked up a couple of dents - one on the edge of the body, one on the front, just under the controls. They are both smaller than a 5p piece: Comes with a utterly cheapo no-name gig bag. 5. [s]PRICE DROP: £250 and will now post.[/s] This has now sold. Yamaha BEX4c semi-acoustic bass, in a lovely midnight blue with flamey top and white binding. These basses were only made for a few years in the late '90s/early 00s, and feature semi-hollow body, 34" scale neck with rosewood fretboard, a humbucking magnetic pickup, a piezo bridge, 3-band EQ, blend control and volume control. I've had it for about ten to twelve years and have only gigged it a few times. It's in very good condition, but there's a bit of surface wear and buckle scratches but nothing through the paint-work. There's a crack on the EQ panel mount where it screws to the body, but it has remained solid and doesn't affect the operation of the EQ. I moved the neck-side strap button to the back of the body, where it's held firm - it had a tendency to loosen out when screwed into the edge. I don't have a case for it, but will provide a Godin-branded gig bag. I can also post it. Payment by bank transfer or Paypal. Any questions, get in touch. More pictures: (that's my ceiling rose reflected in the back, not some really odd buckle-rash!): Crack in EQ surround: Strap pin moved:
  6. SOLD This is a Squier VM Fretless jazz bass which has been upgraded with Wizard '64 pickups and a Gotoh 201 bridge (note that I don't have the originals). I've never gigged it, and it's in great condition. It's got Rotosound roundwounds on it just now, so plenty of mwah, but there's a bit of marking on the ebanol fretboard as a result. Nothing major though. I've also got a couple of pickguards I'll throw in as well - one pearloid, one a not particularly brilliant tort. Note that I have not drilled the body for these (and sod's law, the screwholes quite don't line up, so they're not interchangeable). It comes with a "The Bass Centre" padded gigbag. This has now been sold. 7.
Always the same isn't it? Promoters clearly don't care enough to about touting to do anything about it, desptie all the fine words over the years. How difficult would it be to limit ticket sales to, say, half a dozen for each credit card number, print the number on the actual ticket and then require everyone attending to have the physical credit card available as proof of ID?
That's what they're doing for the Kate Bush gigs - tickets are limited to 4 per person, with the lead ticket-holder's name printed on them. ID is required to get in. Promoters care deeply about touting - they've realised that if people are willing to spend ridiculous sums on tickets, then why should the touts get that money? Unfortunately, it seems that some people really will fork out vast amounts of money for tickets. Do TicketMaster offer a Dutch auction service for tickets yet?
  8. Same thing, and also on the Eventim website as well - on it, I kept getting to the stage of being able to pick tickets for a date, but when I added them to the basket and filled in the captcha, I'd get an error message saying there were no tickets available. I'm not worried which date I go to, so it was frustrating having to pick a date, then see if there were tickets, filling in the captcha each time. Oh well, hopefully more tickets will be released later.
  9.
I've liked the funkier and rockier aspects of his work but steer clear of the balance
Ugh - typo: that should be "ballads". I've got no problem with the balance - although how the whole band manages to dance around in high heels, I'll never know...
  10. Will Sittingbourne do you? They were covering the Kings of Sodding Leon's Sex is sodding on sodding Fire, and then went into sodding Snow Patrol. Don't get me wrong - they were competent musicians, but the song choices weren't to my taste, and at no point did the lead singer get the whole pub clapping along to his funk interlude by shouting "now, only the sexy people clap!"
  11.
One step away from being Trigger's Broom.
Well, once he replaces the neck with one with graphite rods in it, and puts some Hipshot Ultralites on it...
  12. Getting back to the crux of the matter, has anyone actually been to see Prince on his latest bout of gigs round London (and Manchester)? A couple of Sundays ago, I found myself at a bit of a loose end in the middle of Kent. I'd been doing some work on the Saturday, and it had all gone to plan, slightly unexpectedly. Having had two nights of eating alone in the local Beefeater (taking advantage of the Valentine's Day special menu both times), I decided I was due a bit of a treat, and headed up to London for the day. On the way up, I found out that Prince was due to play one or more sets at Koko that night. Now, I'm not a massive Prince enthusiast - I've liked the funkier and rockier aspects of his work but steer clear of the balance, BUT I've always said that if I got to the chance see him doing a small club gig, I'd take it. I decided that I'd head to Camden, see what the queue was like, and either join it, wander round the market for the day, safe in the knowledge that I was too late to get in, or wander round the market for an hour or two knowing that I could probably still get in. As it happened, there were about 550 people in the queue when I arrived, and Koko holds at least twice that, so I figured I could either join the queue at that point and definitely get in for the first show, or head off for a wander and come back later. I'm much too paranoid to have enjoyed the wander, so I made the call to join the queue at that point. It was a slightly chilly, but sunny, day and I got chatting to the lovely bunch of people around me. The atmosphere in the queue was good. Someone had numbered everyone's hands, which cut down on tension about jumping the queue or leaving it to get supplies. Turns out it wasn't an official thing - just some guy at the head of the queue taking the initiative (there's probably a PhD in sociology waiting for anyone who wants to research crowd psychology). Eventually, the doors opened, and I got a decent spot next to the sound desk. So, yeah, Prince live, from the point of view of a casual fan who happened to be in the area: Well, it definitely wasn't dire bland bilge! Prince is playing with a three-piece all-girl band, and it was a pretty hard-rocking set, as the clip of "Let's Go Crazy" above shows. What it doesn't show is that, at around the equivalent of 2:20 on the video, when the bass player (Ida Neilsen) kicked on the distortion, the whole place shook with the kind of tone that everyone prays for when they hit the magic button. The gig continued in a similar vein - highlights lots of solos, lots of funkiness and Prince taking the bass during an extended jam thing which combined solos AND funkiness, with maybe a bit of the aforementioned fuzz tone. He played for just under two hours, then the venue was cleared for the next set - that one ended up being three hours. I kind of wish I'd gone for my wander round Camden and got into that one instead, but then I'd have needed to figure out how to get back to Kent very late on a Sunday night.
  13. As a compulsive tinkerer, I was amused to read about one of Mike Watt's basses on his website (the yellow precision, about halfway down): http://www.hootpage.com/hoot_gallery-thudstaffs.html
2011 fender p-bass deluxe special this plays really good, made in mexico neck has narrow nut like fender j-bass I replaced original pickguard w/this black one when I tore out the active electronics, replaced body w/yellow warmoth alder one and replaced the split pickup w/a d allen one along w/passive controls and a gotoh bridge my buddy dirk did much work on this!
Watt always mods the hell (and rocks the hell) out of his basses, but I like the idea that he acquired a P deluxe, replaced the body, the pickguard, the pickup, the active electronics and the bridge, but kept the neck - because it is Jazz width!
  14. Regardless of the ethics of flipping it so quickly on eBay, at least have the decency to use your own photos.
  15. Sorry - that was just some cold-blooded punning. Just to clarify; I haven't played any scales on them, but I imagine there's no hiss, no rattle, the action will be slinky, and, um, I'll get me coat. It's the snakeskin leather jacket...
  16. I played a few scales on one. There was a bit of hiss, but the range of tones definitely wasn't constricting...
  17. Sad news - I've ordered a couple of sets of pickups from Bill & Becky over the years, and they sounded great. He was a true innovator.
  18. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
  19. I bought Si's Jazz neck from him - friendly guy to deal with, and had it delivered very quickly, very well packed. Deal with confidence! Cheers, Kenny
  20. There are differences in the size of neck pockets between some Squier basses and the standard Fender neck pocket size, so it could be that the bridge had to be moved to allow it to intonate properly.
  21. Hi Joe, It was good to see you in Glasgow - it was a great show and I had a great time! Mind you, I had a reasonably epic hangover this morning, and I'm back to gassing for an RD Artist bass again...
  22. Not just you - same here on my home PC (FF) and work laptop (IE).
  23. I have a couple of questions/observations: Search doesn't seem to work - I searched for "Precision", and it only returned one listing (not for a Precision, although the ad does mention the word) Although sold items show up as sold on the list page, the actual advert page doesn't show this anywhere, so if you bookmark an advert, you've got no way of knowing the item has been sold. What does the "Watch Advert" feature do? Is there an eBay-style watch list somewhere?
