1. Just acquired a Dingwall from him... great guy... cheers MArk
 2. Thanks Sheldon, More than anything it impresses me that you're happy to help like this personally... It's really appreciated... All the best Mark
Hey Mark, no worries. The volume and tone are 6 mm split-splined and the rotary switch is 1/4" solid. All of our knobs have a 1/4" bore so there will be a small brass tube inside the V/T knobs to size them down to 6 mm. There should also be a plastic shim in the pot shaft slot to keep the set screw from bending the prongs. If you replace the V/T knobs with push-on style remove the plastic shim.
3. As a guide to image the previous (?) bass player was the one on the left :-) Mind you this puts a different slant on things.. :-) http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/skinny...ristmascampaign
 4. Hi, A Dingwall Combustion is also in your price bracket as well... I'm picking up my ABZ tomorrow which completely blew me away when I tried it... Mark
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=114952 This is at Marks so will be tested on saturday, I think S/H instruments are included in the 0% deals? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=51513&st=40 This is probably the right one to go for and just raid the wifes purse but when has doing the right thing ever been the right thing to do ?
5. Hi Sheldon, I believe they're the "old" ones as the guy I'm buying from said that newer knobs were available from you.. I was not having a dig by the way, just that this was the only thing I could find fault with.. Reminds me of a good friend of mine who when he was living in Texas had his mother in law visit from the UK - she was always critical of everything Mark did for her daughter.. As they sat having dinner, the sun setting over the Gulf, she looked out over the idyllic scene and said "the seagulls are smaller than the ones we have in Southend"... Cheers Mark PS - do the pots have splined shafts or screw locking type shafts? :-) Cheers Mark
 6. For a luthier start here? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26654
 7. Hi, I'm picking up an ABZ on Thursday, and my sole criticism was that the knobs feel cheap.... Easy to fix for £30 but....... Cheers Mark
Some good feedback here. The neck finish and knobs are the first I've heard complaints about. Both are easy to deal with both at the factory level and at the consumer level. We get comments from both directions. Some players used to meaty necks prefer the Combustion over the ABZ, others prefer the slender feel of the ABZ, others who are used to the even slimmer Z-series necks thing the AB necks are too bulky. Origin of perspective really influences first impressions. Off topic a little. It's been on my mind to comment on the Kubicki X-factor since it's been mentioned in this thread a couple of times. There's a bass that deserves more recognition. I bow down to the brilliance of Phillip Kubicki. He's a real gentleman too.
8. Although it's lovely I've not touched this except to tune it since getting the ABZ.. So back here... Selling my near immaculate MIJ 2003 Ibanez five string SR765..It has two very shallow tiny dings on the body (mid back, and top) that don't show in a photograph. Headstock with MIJ/Serial number photo below.. Just had a setup done by Andy Bunn in Stratford.. It's a lovely, well balanced, light (lighter than my ABZ so at a guess only 7.5 lbs) and ergonomic bass with a 34" scale and 16.5 mm string spacing.. So pretty much as narrow and fast a neck as you'll get on a 5-string in this price range... It's passive with a 9V powered "sweeper" preamp setup (so semi active?) - and a sensible cartridge battery setup (no screws, takes 10 seconds to change/check the battery which lasts for ever anyway).. basswood body apparently.. Comes with a Tribal Planet semi-rigid case. £325 collected from Stratford upon Avon, £340 posted... Also open for trades in terms of amplification/cabs.. Cheers Mark
 9. +1 for Hartke.. Value for money for rock/blues stuff can't be bettered IMHO..
 10. Ah, the Marmite option ... You either love them or hate them.... :-)
As an avowed Ric Lover I have to say Try a Ric.
11. I think they only glow under UV ?
 12. Don't get fixated on just the power.. The efficiency of the speakers is as, if not more, important... A 3db improvement in efficiency is equivalent to doubling the amp power output.. And it's not uncommon for there to be >10 db efficiency differences betweens different speaker setups. I'd focus on how loud, at what frequencies, in what size room and how many people in the audience.. Cheers Mark
 13. there's also a couple on Thomann.de for under a ton ... This looks quite nice... http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_double_bag_trolley_ebass.htm Mark
 14. Mono and iGig do "twin" gig bags - available from Bass Direct near Warwick as well as probably other places..
 15. I think it's obvious Conan was thinking about something else :-)
Especially when cunningly disguised as a snowman
16. Hi Marco, Welcome to basschat - it's a great place with really supportive folk.... All the best Mark
 17. http://www.watfordvalves.com/ Are a good source for all things valvey :-)
 18. +1 for Steve - recently serviced my Ashdown rig - not expensive, and quicker than he said it would be... Nice guy, will recommend and use again.. Cheers Mark
I have just given Steve a call about a possible problem with my amp. He gave me some great advice about things to try without asking me to bring the amp in on some wild goose chase. Thanks Steve !
19. I use Tuxguitar - similar to Guitar Pro, but free.....
 20. or "I'm too loyal" :-) and "My Prince 2 certification means that projects always go well" :-) Both of these answers usually end an interview :-) Mark
 21. My favourite interview questions... "What do you think is your greatest fault" "Tell me about your role in a project that got screwed up" :-)
 22. +1 :-)
Both my Rickenbacker 4001's - if I'd known how much people would pay for these terrible planks in years to come.....
23. I'm in Stratford upon Avon... I feel a strange sense of inevitability coming over me :-) Mark
 24. Where are you based? Depending on some cash coming in over the next wseek or so, I might well be tempted by this... Cheers Mark
The two main things about it is that it gives the lower strings higher tension and that it supposedly follows the natural arc of your wrist as you play. They do feel very natural, but even taking the fanned fret into account, they're still pretty long. Though the necks on the Dingwalls I've tried have been amazing.
25. We use Scarf joints pretty much exclusively in wooden glider repairs.... However, how strong does it need to be? Cheers Mark
