2. Agree with this - my 9V SR765 works best in the passive input, my BTB470 (18V) was a little too hot for the passive input..
3. I've got a pair of Kinetics 15" (Eminence loaded) PA cabs that I picked up for £40 in total.. I got them as spares for either our PA or my Bass/Keyboard rig.. They're very efficient and although not wonderful, I would have loved to have had them as part of my bass rig in the 80's.. I would certainly consider using Mackie 1521's with a preamp as an alternative setup...
4. Or Alex uses expensive drivers with large XMAX's.... :-)
5. It's a tadge more complicated in that there are three (or four) common minor scales for each key.. I found this Minor Scales which appears to be a fairly succinct summary... Cheers MArk
6. Depending on the frequency, very much so..
Ok, thanks. That makes sense. But is it usual or even common for a speaker to run out of excursion so far short of its thermal limit?
7. A little harsh - both my Amcron (Crown) and TOA Power amps produce more power bridged than in stereo.. Don't know why though.. Cheers Mark
They've pulled the figures out of their ass
8. "No page in history baby- that, I don't need I just want to make some eardrums bleed" :-)
9. Absolutely, although I thought the point of a restraining order was that you moved rather than Chris :-)
10. He's moved to Dublin because Marvin followed him around Teignmouth and he felt worried :-)
11. I only live 15 mins from Warwick - I feel a trip to Bass Direct coming up.. :-)
12. Alex, I'm musing about buying a pair of light weight cabs and Barefaced come high on the list of options. The curved ball is that I want to use them for keyboards as well in stereo.. My first assumption was that a pair of super twelves (T) would probably do the biz (I have a fairly clean "articulate" bass sound in my current rig) - but then I noticed the SR12.3 in the forthcoming products section.. I'm unlikely to buy something before mid December but would welcome your views on the differences as well as the availability of the SR12.3. Current setup is an Ibanez SR765 with Ashdown RPM-1/APM1000 and a Warwick Terminator cab (2 x 15, 2 x 8 + horn).. Keyboards have enough level to run direct into the power amp (either the Ashdown APM1000 or an Amcron Geodyne II (or both!!)) Cheers Mark
13. No, they're quieter (except when I'm screaming at the competition :-) ) "Erm, so are they louder?"
14. "but I remember asking a glider pilot friend of mine whether new technology is reducing the span of glider wings, he responded this was kind of true but there's no substitute for span." Apart from Talent :-) (I'm a gliding instructor) Glider wings are long and thin (high aspect ratio) because for a given area this form factor produces the least total (form + induced) drag in the speed ranges gliders typically fly at.. So if anything we're using new materials (carbon fibre/kevlar) to make longer/thinner wings than we used to (subject to class/racing limitations in standard/15 metre class (both of these amusingly if confusingly comprising of gliders limited to 15m wingspans), 18 metre and "Open class" . As we approach 30 metres the penalty paid in handling/adverse yaw drag to date has proven to apply a practical limit. Any inprovements in aerofoil design/airflow management can be generally applied just as well to long wings as short wings, and the competition classing system (think yacht classes) means that there is no sporting benefit in having shorter wings than your compeition.. The only exceptions are open class aerobatic gliders but this a very fringe activity occupied by pilots with more money than sense .. On a pound per minute basis it's cheaper to run an Extra 300 than indulge in glider aerobatics.... cheers Mark
15. Dagnaggit.. I've a gig that evening so it's going to be tight to come.. Bu*ger..
16. Yup, that's pretty much my understanding (and how our guitarist who has a VG99 has done it)..
Well I've had a good look at the pick up, and from what I can see it will happily attach with double sided tape (aka Bernie Goodfellow Scratch Plate Magic). I also beleive (correct me if i'm wrong) that the control block (that the pickup connects to) just clamps to a bass anyway (by use of the end pin, or a range of other methods to suit the basses layout) and does not require and screwing on… Shep
17. Welcome.. Corsica is a lovely place - had a great holiday there a few years ago...
18. Link to a review here.. :-) http://www.xotic.us/reviews/XJ1T_VintageGu...Guitar_xj1t.pdf
19. You should always have a spare one, two or few?? :-) I've got four rigs and manage to use all of them :-) In the spirit of greater detail I'll elucidate further.. Practice with an Ashdown MAG300/15 (Eminence loaded) Small gig/need to go louder I add a MAJ 1 x 15 or 1x 12 to the MAG300. Proper rig is Ashdown RPM1/APM1000 and Warwick Terminator cab. As backup I have a Behringer V-Amp XT Pro and Amcron Geodyne II. Plus other cabs and I can mix and match as needed (or leave stuff behind between practices).. So in real terms I have two core setups, but I have options is case something goes down..
I've just got the one atm, but seriously tempted to get a lightweight rig too for practices and small gigs. My current rig is my dream rig, it's just a royal PITA to lug a 1kw head and a 4x10 to practices, very tempting to get a micro head and 2 small cabs (maybe 2 neo 1x12s). Please just tell me I'm being stupid and I only need one amp.
20. Is the T-Rex Squeezer a very large pedal then? :-)
Chester being the Mecca of pedals obviously! Both guitar shops I can think of there have very little pedals in stock.
21. I can bridge my APM-1000 (although only into 8 Ohms) But the whole point is that it is two completely seperate power amps (see pic) and meant for bi-amping (although having two power switches is a little unneccesary)
1000 watt amps that are actually two 500 watt amps that can't be used in mono(Ashdown/Trace Elliot). Still love my Fafner though!
22. Beyma? PD? Volt? B&C? The Kappalite 3015HO is a nice driver for the money.. The key is to avoid a dedicated sub design I would think.. But unless you've got a big XMAX you're simply going to convert all those watts into heat and farting noises... Also you'd need to match it to your cabinet...
