1.
The head is 700 watts @ 2 ohms. You'd need 4 of those cabs to get the full whack.
but one perk of at 8 ohm 4x10 is that it is relatively easy to rewire it to 2 ohms. just put all of the cones in parralel (assuming they use 8 ohm drivers as apose to the possible 32 ohms)
2. absolutely stunning bass and great review. I can't help but feel that its a waste having the back of the bass.... on the back. love the contrasting colours of the back.
3. I love this bass but i'm just not using the tones it it capable of, it does an amazing edgy driven MM sound perfectly, but thats not what i'm after. the bass is in great condition, (bought off here in july '10) i can't find the original fs thread but i'm pretty sure the bass was around a year old. at the moment it has a diy mirror scratch plate (a little rough around the edges) and orange dr neons. the original w/b/w pearl scratch plate in here too. lots of shiny bits on the bass means its perfect for blinding people in the crowd, if you're a Phil Lynott/ Steve Harris wannabe. i'm looking for a precision (might be tempted my a sexy looking jazz), much love for the classics, fiesta red, sea foam green, oly white but i'm not set. same goes for a maple fretboard. i gan put a hundred or so into a deal if i need to. It'll will come with an skb semi hard case. cheers.
4. alcohol would do the same thing, i'm sure ive read somewhere that brian may used to dip his fingers in vodka to harden his fingertips. might have been rubbing alcohol.
5. watching the wall movie / music video late at night by yourself in a dark room can be a bit of an interesting experience too. i made the mistake of completely submerging myself in it, freaked me out a little. i'm ashamed to say i'm partial to a bit of john mayers more bluesy stuff as a bit of relaxation too.
6. ive (unfortunately) been in plenty of bad nightclubs where they're set up directly at the crowd... so they get away with it... but no idea on actual safety or legality of the issue.
7. i have some old thick (like 4mm) rubber pick that came with my 1st bass. always hated them because there was no note definition, much prefer using my fingers and a pick for songs that are better suited for the sound / better attack. I can't imagine the leather ones being much different to be honest, but its all about personal preference, you might love them.
8.
I had to give up the bass for a few of them like fire and good times bad times, but mainly played and sang which is something I never do.
trying to nick my set? eh? god help whosever has to put up with my singing.
9. i'll add fleetwood mac and the john mayer trio to mine too... although Pino would be a hard act to follow.
10. i'd say in the past, Thin lizzy, led zep and sublime. right now though i'd give my right (leg) to b in any number of bands top of my list being karma to burn, kylesa and the ocean though, could have some serious fun with those guys.
11. i made a bass for my a-level, but did it pretty much all off the bat, came out pretty well, except for the neck being much more 50's p than i'm used to. i didnt become a member on the forums until i was pretty much finished ..... I wish i had before i started because its a massive source of knowledge. the best place i can think of to be honest to start is to start reading through lots of build threads.... there are hundreds over at talkbass that serve pretty much as a step by step tutorial. and of course completely plan and design ever aspect of the bass before you start. i made the mistake of starting before i had all of my hardware in hand, which meant i had a lot of holdups while i waited for things like nuts, bridges and pickups to arrive so that i could build the bass according to them.
12.
Havnt heard too much about the company however. Could be another Behringer, or harley benton haha!
you just hit the nail on the head, bugera is actually part of behringer, just rebranded to try and shed some of the bad notions associated with the name.
13. this stuff it says it protects against uv too... so could maybe stop fading too.
14. you can get clear films that are made to protect car bodywork from stone chips and stuff.... i'm guessing it must be pretty hard wearing. maybe worth a try?
15. wow, thats an amazing price, and its no doubt lighter than my current 4x10. just can't justify it though.
16. i'm not sure how resistant to sweat it is... but when i was at school we used to use double sided tape to attach sheets of acrylic onto boards for the cnc machine... stuck like a bitch, definitely enough for a pick guard, especially onto a glossy painted surface like a bass. edit: it will leave residue when take off though, need tar remover or something similar to get the stuff off.
17.
Ahh cool will it effect the way the bass plays/sounds or anything at all?
no it shouldn't do. another option if you would rather not drill permanent holes is to just use some double sided tape to stick it on. that way you can remove it and have it just like new.
18. i don't know anything about the horn box... but the bright box has a high pass filter which presents a high impedance so it can be used with 2 other cabs without killing the amp... if i remember rightly, for some reason the bright box is stated as being 8ohm too, so maybe the horn box works in the same way... if not then you would only be able to use it with one other cab :/ the way you said of linking them should work because trace (and everyone else i think) wires the link plugs as parallel with the inputs so it basically works exactly like plugging it straight into the amp, just with a shorter lead.
19.
Not a rig, but a small collection of my preamps:
so, i heard you like preamps?
20. at a guess.. yes? i sold my macbook about a year ago to get an imac so i'm hazy on that one. i've started to use my boss gt6b with some (if i do say so myself) pretty good results. if your amp has a line out then that would work too, less hassle getting an appropriate lead. The only pain in the arse that i've encountered when using the line in is that the threshold of distortion is very low, you can have a great level then just a little bit more volume or harder playing will cause some horrible clipping. to overcome this i've started using a compressor in all my recording.
21. some people say that for decent results you need a dedicated firewire/usb preamp but the soundcards on macbook and imacs are pretty good imo. I (and people that i've worked with) have gotten really good (well as good as di can get) results just using a preamp straight into the line in. if you have an amp that you like that has a di out then a di to jack cable would work (with a mini jack addapter) otherwise any preamp would do really.
22. i have no idea about how to beg a balanced xlr di but for an unbalanced you could just wire it in parallel with the jack output.
