1. Just some really quick pics of the new LG4 in Sonic Blue. Some of you will know I've been chasing this bass for a long time...and it doesn't disappoint in any way. My favourite colour (with MHS) and a truly stunning player. It's consecutively numbered with the 3TS LG4 too (and as far as I know, these were the two last basses - or at least two of the last - out of Jimmy's NY operation). It's nitro with the DN board for those with an interest in the detail.
2. A lovely example of a very nice bass - the top laminate is gorgeous - a bit of class at a decent price. Good luck with the sale
3. So many superb J clones out there but (for me) ACs stand out as something quite different. The philosophy behind the basses and build really does it for me, so too the incredible craftwork and playability. Tone is very personal of course, but the ACs I've tried sound exactly as they should, then a bit. Good luck with the sale - a very good price for some of the best in current US hand-building
4. An absolute bargain - I don't think there's any chance of getting a bass like this for a similar price anywhere just now
5. I'm afraid I haven't had the pleasure - I haven't even seen one in the flesh. I too think the bridge looks odd on a J style, but the bridge assembly really is an integral and defining component of any Alembic (I see that at least two of the examples pictured have the bridge block). I'm not at all surprised to hear they don't sound like a Jazz either, indeed, I'd have been shocked if they did. I haven't a clue what the electronics package is - anybody any ideas? I can't imagine feel, playability and finish is anything less than perfection. I really must seek one of these out - I can feel the GAS rumblings

SOLD

Just staggeringly beautiful...
7. Shipping around £200 with an expedited service (then around a further 22.5% on total purchase and shipping costs for VAT and duty). Probably looking at a total of around £1200 to get this into the UK
8. Just thanks - excellent! A really concise, objective and informative review (in fact, a much more useful review than many 'professional' reviews I've seen). More of this would be great on BC (but I suspect most of us don't have the facilities).
9.
I am gassing for an LG4!! Do you know who is getting the basses? It isn't me unfortunately!
Possibly some news later in the week...
10. Wow - absolutely lovely! I'm a bit of a sucker for some of Fender's more outlandish colours and that bass looks just phenomenal (especially with the blocks, rosewood and tort). What model is it?
11. What waynepunkdude said (and I've said it many times)
12. The preamp in Celinders is generally 'bass boost and cut' - hence the centre detent, and the treble is roll-off (cut) only I think. As you've found, there are dip-switches to "to modify the amount and frequency of the treble response and bass EQ frequency curve" (quote from KJung on Talkbass)
13. Alembic - bright (almost turquoise) blue Overwater - black
14. I've just completed a deal for a Protection Racket case with Rasher80 (James) - the whole transaction couldn't have been easier. Great communications, very accommodating, straightforward and friendly - entirely recommended!
15. Thanks James - a really easy transaction - thanks very much indeed for the communications and accommodation!
16. Newtone will custom wind to your specs and use any colour of silking you'd prefer (I had gold on a couple of recent sets to match the hardware on a bass)
17. I've only really any experience of the Epi ul112 - a lovely smooth response and very full bottom end - very good for finger style funk and jazz. If you're using just one, I wouldn't push it too hard. I'm not sure that on its own it would make a great rock cab, especially in a loud band. A pair might be able to cope.
18. The following text was forwarded to me by a BC member and is sourced (apparently) from Rob at Status - I'll admit to absolutely no technical knowledge here so will refrain from offering 'hard' advice - interesting reading however: "The phenolic fingerboard on my bass looks grey and has lost it's original black colour : The dry look on the fingerboard is where the laminated phenolic material is actually 'drying' out a little. It is often caused by being cleaned with a water or solvent based polish which can take the natural 'oils' out of the board. You can fix this very easily by cleaning the fingerboard with a very small amount of oil. Something as simple as WD40 is fine. Use a soft cotton cloth and wipe a VERY small amount of oil on the fingerboard and rub it in.... then clean it all off again leaving just a trace which has 'soaked' into the surface. This will bring back the dark colour of the board. 'Non waxy' types of furniture polish are fine for the gloss lacquer on the body or the lacquer on the BACK of the neck but not for the fingerboard."
19. been lusting after this on TB - gorgeous! If I hadn't just bought a Celinder P...
20. This is probably the biggest bargain on BC (or pretty much anywhere just now) - I picked up a Celinder just a couple of months ago (for a great deal more than £1400) and it's worth every penny. IMO, you really can believe the hype with Celinder. I promised myself no more fretless basses as all previous (and many) efforts have ended in despair...otherwise, this would be gone.
21. I think that WD40 is recommended by Status for ebanol boards. I tried this recently and it worked extremely well (a dash of WD40 on 0000 wire wool was very effective!) However, I'd get more opinions and do some checking - I don't want to offer poor or potentially dangerous advice
22. You could try searching with Google Scholar - lots of citation material ...hmm...just tried it with search term "auditory fatigue distortion" and received about 8k hits (a lot about gerbils so some refinement of terms required)
23. As indicated in Karlfer's earlier thread on dating, I've had the real pleasure of playing this bass around a year ago. It is without doubt the fastest, slickest Fender Jazz neck I've ever played - it's a superb example (one of the best) of an early to mid '70s Jazz. It's really classy bass all round and certainly looks the part. It's fairly light (unlike my '76), has lots of wear but isn't 'beaten'. I've played a lot of Jazz basses and would certainly recommend this to anybody looking for a 'player' vintage instrument - I'd be amazed if you'd find better. The strip is a shame and the bass does need a sympathetic and very high quality (Gallery?) re-fret. However, IMO this is a superb bass at a realistic(ish) price
24.
I have the exact same flight case, and they are the absolute business.... heavy, but it feels like you could run over it in a tank and the tank would come off worse! Bargain at £100....
Thanks Tredders - I couldn't agree more - I just have a problem carrying it these days
