1. Wow - absolutely gorgeous...and, yeah...what is the holy grail?
2. Not a bad price for a classic big gig/touring head - amazing tone in these things and very simple operation - fantastic, flat, plug'n'play capability, and dangerously loud. I don't need another, but if I did...

Now I've recovered my composure... Maybe I'm being a bit thick here, but is this a Series I bass or a Signature Deluxe bass? Also, the electronics look like Series 1 (I think, I haven't checked) but the description alludes to 'Anniversary' electronics (I know the two are very similar but there's no dummy in the Ann basses). My apologies if I'm missing the point - it's been a very demanding week and it's only Wednesday morning. I'm still suffering from a good deal of confusion following Sunday's (bassday) shock and awe slap attack. I think I'll be spending a lot of time looking at these photos...for the hundred and fiftieth time on here...'there's nothing quite like an Alembic...'
4.
It's not the most stunning bass I've owned to look at - in fact I still struggle a bit with the headstock and, in my personal casen sunburst isn't my favourite finish. However I do think it just 'works' better than anything I've owned.
Really good points that marry with my own experience. Choice of finish is very personal (my AC is sunburst - it's one of three 'burst basses that I own and I'm not a big fan - my partner calls it 'alsatian' finish???) Also, the headstock shape is certainly not to everyone's taste - mine included (though I think the mass in the headstock serves a useful function). The real issue with the AC is 'does it work', and the answer is a resounding yes. Comfort, tone and playability are stunning - it even sounds enormous unplugged. The Alleva is the kind of bass that I can't wait to get my hands on - three months on from receiving it, I still get home excited about having a chance to play
5.
Loz - just put on a tune that really inspires you (It's YYZ for me, but I understand that's fair personal!) and I'm sure you'll be back into playing in no time. The slap-fest really can take it out of you - which is one of the reasons I loved the ACG weekend - almost no slap at all.
Tayste_2000 "I'm in the process of hacking my thumb off, I've seen the damage that can be done and though not guilty yet, power corrupts." Thanks guys - strangely enough and without reading your posts, I put on few tracks this morning (Bobby Womack, Mott the Hoople, Donny Hathaway - eclectic taste!) and I feel so much better now! I will play later. Normal service resumed.
6. IME, Allevas are everything they're supposed to be - PM if you can make it over to Manchester - you're welcome to try mine
7. Some gorgeous basses on show - lovely amps too. RIM, Ged Green and ACG were the most attractive to my eyes and at decent prices too. Good performance from Rolli; Poogie Bell was stunning - super-funk (finest performance of the day for me); Charles looked a bit intimidated; Clutterbuck did what he does (but did it well); and, East's sound was muddy from my seat (and frankly, the set was a bit boring). Utter cacophony across the three floors for extended periods - it actually made me feel ill. A great deal of very ugly slapping. Seeing friends was the highlight. I've done two Bassdays now, I'm not sure I'd want to do another. The whole thing left me feeling pretty flat - I really don't think I'll want to play bass for a good few days. Weird.
8. I'd like to offer an opinion/help but honestly don't know what a duck tail is (in the context of bass necks). Can you provide more details (and the delay gives me some time to think of a duck-related pun)?
9. A staggering pair - absolutely beautiful. I'd certainly go for the tort plate on the P/J
10.
Never mind Prefab Sprout where are the pics??? And Are you in agreement that these basses cannot be bettered
Yeah...come on Molan, we're all waiting patiently I managed to spend half an hour with the LG4 yesterday and was - again - blown away. For what these are (essentially, Fender clones), I'd be surprised to find anything better. The Celinder is due on Wednesday...we'll see...
11.
If you want it Loz, I can help fund it for you by taking that Celinder P-bass off your hands ...
A very kind offer! I haven't even received the Celinder yet though. The Alembic is gorgeous but it's far too big for me - I can only cope with the tidgy four-stringers
12. A bump and a note - if anybody is seriously considering jumping on this bass before it gets ebayed, I can recommend the signature electronics without reservation: the range of tones and immense transparent power is staggering
13. The '78 P is one of the nicest Ps I've seen! Jazz neck too - just gorgeous!
14. Not seen one of these for ages - not a bad bit of kit at all. I think they look great and should push out a lot of bottom end. They're possibly not too desirable in the current market but I don't think pricing is too far off
15. 'Enjoyed the story immensely and some absolutely beautiful basses!
16. I've only had significant experience with a Streamer Stage II 5 string - it was heavy but not overly so. The sound was absolutely immense - very fat and very growly - I loved it! The real problem for me was the neck profile - the bass had a very thick, rounded neck shape, that whilst comfortable from the 5th fret up (string spacing was tight - a good thing for me), was too much of a stretch in lower positions. I'd say try a few Warwicks - my prejudices were blown away by the outstanding tone (and very good build quality)
17. There are many on here with greater knowledge than myself, but if it's a good one, I'd say around £2800-3250 (edited for syntax)
18.
MB1. ...Well worth a trip to Sainsburys car park! ....You at Bassday.....Loz?
'Sure am - forgoing my usual Sunday shopping duties and venturing a bit further down the road to RNCM - see you there?!
19. Haha - thanks - I'm still a bit sore after the last Alembic - 'good job it was a small standard body
20. Thanks guys - it does look a bit lovely and I'll try to get some further pics up when it arrives - I'm just trying to find somewhere to hide it...
21.
So you got it? Congrats, it's one of the most stunning instruments I've ever seen.
Amen
22. Thanks for a great review - this accords really strongly with my own experience and opinion (except the bits relating to playing in a band situation - I never do so can't comment). Playability is superb and the tones from the on-board pre are really usable - I've found changes to be fairly subtle. I've been experimenting with cutting both mids and treble and emphasising bass a little on the amp - a ul502 (with the onboard pre just about centred for B&T). With a bit of cut on the neck pickup, the Jazz has incredibly heft and fullness but retains great clarity and note definition (I think it would still cut through nicely with a band)
23. I've just sold two units to a guy in Italy (I suspect it's the same guy that the OP has been considering selling to). I had absolutely no problem whatsoever - the payment was received rapidly and Parcelforce had the package (around 10kg) at its destination in southern central Italy in around four working days. I used Mailboxes etc. as the agent - the service was 'signed for' and the purchaser paid for Mailboxes etc. own insurance.
