Yeah fair enough, he's got such a distinctive style I guess I thought the bass might also be distinctive. He probably sounds like himself on any bass though. Anyway, it looks very nice and it's nice to see him getting wider recognition.

Ha, it's definitely quite a specific niche... some people are ok but it is largely aggressive young American metal guitarists with too much time and money on their hands.

Possibly a stretch to get one in budget but my (unlined) Metro Express has the dots where the lines would be.

I reckon their demographic is: - one third aspiring fusion shred masters - one third metal dudes who can't afford a Dingwall but want to tune to low F# - one third a bit of both ( I do own a 7 string bass, and would fall into the last third fwiw). I know you don't want to be a shredder but there's probably someone selling an Ibanez RG somewhere in your neighborhood, which tend to have very fast (shallow and quite flat) neck profiles.

Not quite as posh, but here's my pair of Conklin Groove Tools 7s (and their bastard offspring from the same factory)

My experience of Elixirs suggests that they probably will not protect you from the metal 100%, they tend to flake a little, especially if you're playing a lot.

Depends if it's a problem with the nut itself or if the slot isn't cut correctly. Might just need a bit of sanding?

No that doesn't look right to me -- on my fretless 5 the nut is flush with the bottom of the slot

I have a fretless 5 string which is pretty good. I upgraded the pickups to the higher spec version since they came up used but frankly it didn't make much difference.

It reads to me like the 40th anniversary thing is just coincidental timing, and I'd guess Fender might be more impacted as they often make up a large proportion of shop stock compared to other brands.

Nice job, did you have to chisel out space for the 5 string pickup too?
