  1. Past hour
  2. Great amp - used mine for years and it was always bang on the money imho. Glwts
  3. Possibly, but best wishes for a happy resolution whatever you decide.
  4. Thanks. I just tried clipping one of those woodworking clamps to the headstock, it's small and light but that was enough to give the note a fair bit more sustain so I recon a headstock tuner would probably be enough to mitigate a lot of the issue, but I'll reach out to Dingwall anyway - they may have something a bit more elegant to offer.
  5. Hang on a minute, it's just occured to me I've got a singlecut bass. One of these:
  6. Sorry to say that new strings will make no difference. The Fatfinger does work and sometimes, so well, it removes the dreaded dead spot altogether. If you go the FF route, try different positions across the headstock as this can make a difference as well. I have three basses with dead spots and all were fixed by the addition of the FF. obviously, the extra metal will make the neck more prone to dive, but at least your bass will sound as it should. Goodest of luck.
  7. Yeah, I had a USA Jazz Pro that had a terrible dead spot on the C of the second fret of the 3rd string... that's a well used note! My Stingray had a slight drop off in sustain on the B at the 7th fret of the 4th string, only noticed it after about 20 years of use so it wasn't exactly bothering me! It's annoying on my Dingwall though as this is a custom job and it's not like I could just swap the neck out, but it's not a huge issue. May even become less pronounced if I change the strings or get a setup. Will ask Mark at Bass Direct. I'll get over it anyway.
  8. As i say im a massive fan of SC's but as note some luthiers do love to go a bit OTT with their SC designs, I love a lot of KL's designs (hate the squid headstock thing though) and i can apricate the skill that does into the design and build but.... One thing were SC does look super cool in the mini basses realm. I got one on my own self design/builds cued up (yep i ripped off the lower horn ;) )once the weather improvers i hate using the workshop at this time of year even with heating!
  9. I thought this. I'll ask Mark if Dingwall have any suggestions- they may have come across it before and have some ideas e.g. new strings. I wonder if putting one of those headstock tuners on would help? Can't do any harm...
  10. Feels like I've been Zappa'd - 56 years later 🥲
  11. Virginia Plain - Roxy Music
  12. Saw a short video of these doing the rounds the other day, I like it!
  13. We've got a surprisingly exciting playlist in our shop!
  14. I think some dead spots are just more pronounced than others. I can't find any on the basses that I own (I'm there they're there, just minimal/unnoticeable). I tried a Fender Custom Shop P the other week, and there was a dead spot so bad that I think I would have avoided even playing near that note - it was about half the volume and sustain of everything around it
  15. Today I have been marked SAFE from having to buy a Rick Savage bass from Reverb. 😂 Mark
  16. I love an ACG (a well documented fact!) but I do not like the Moth! If I were playing blindfolded, then they're fine, but aesthetically I am not a fan! Luckily Alan builds many a different shape, all of which I do like, and I'm sure someone out there looks at these Moths thinking the opposite of me. Tis the beauty of all being different!
  17. The dead spot is inevitable on instruments as it's linked to their resonant frequency and every material has one. You could add some weight on the headstock to move it further away so it won't annoy you, something like the (Fender) FatFinger can do wonders and it's easy to place and remove.
  18. Nice... Kind of mircotonal math rock. Especially love that last track.

  20. Recently did a trade with Ash: my Markbass combo and his Sandberg P. Totally efficient transaction, and our trade was done via couriers super quick. Ash is a top basschatter, fully trustworthy and a credit to the B/C community
  21. I got this last year from Bass Direct. Its about 7 months old and only really used on my desk at home plus about 3 rehearsals. Ive been using my GP-5 and now GP-50 so much this is just gathering dust. im also eyeing up the new Bass Driver Elite so this will not really get used anymore. Works perfectly and has never missed a beat. I've never used the original PSU so thats still in the box as it came, along with all the paperwork/sticker etc. Looking for £190 posted Track24 to mainland UK, or £185 for collection in central london. You are welcome to come and try it, but as i live in a flat it will have to be at a very low volume, or with headphones.
