I’ve just joined Basschat and wanted to say a quick hello. I’m fairly new to the world of bass and really excited to learn more, share experiences, and hopefully connect with fellow bass enthusiasts here. Looking forward to being part of this awesome community!

It'll turn up as soon as the replacement arrives.

I didn't want to do it when it was suggested by one band as it just strikes me as racist.

Please share your experience of the Ampeg PF-50T
Downunderwonder replied to ossyrocks's topic in Amps and Cabs
My experience of 50W valve amp is lovely sound, short of oomph into 210 cab when getting above rehearsal volume. A bit of a KoolAid experience after reading about so many slaying drummers with theirs. -

I always felt conflicted playing 10cc's Dreadlock Holiday. Great tune to play but a reggae song written and played by four British white men adopting sort of Jamaican accents for parts of the song. It was only after learning it and playing it in rehearsal that I thought " I don't like this", but It was fun bassline to play and I think we played it live a couple of times. Even though I'm not in that band and not playing that song anymore I still think it was wrong to play it. I guess that would come under cultural appropriation by association maybe?

Currently just rocking the JMJ for specific gigs/bands I work with, and do still migrate back to a P or J for other projects. I am another on the pile of fallen soldiers in the fight for that Atelier Z @DanDoesBass - so much so that I currently have Danny Stewart from Bass Japan Direct trying to specifically hunt one for me. Have you ever seen the insanely rare Ocean Turqiose? Because I would sell an organ for it 😂 I've spoiler warninged the picture because it's definitely one of those... Once you've seen it you can't unsee it type of basses. I am unsure if he'll be able to actually find one in the wild.

Ernie Ball getting into the string mute game
PinkMohawk replied to PinkMohawk's topic in Accessories and Misc
https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNq5MGoyzbe Not sure if anyone is paying much attention to this, but I noticed that these have gone up for pre-order on Long & McQuade, a Canadian retailer I believe, with an 'in stock' date of 30th November. Whether that'll carry over to the UK, I'm not sure. Managed to find an Instagram video of a guy who's got hold of one, no clue what his setup is apart from it being an MM style bass, but it's definitely an aggressively muted sound he's getting from it. -
Funny you should ask. They kept the wine flowing. However we were not offered any food. Daryl

Very true - I've often found that Sound Engineers fall into two categories; Those who want to bury you at the bottom of the mix, and those who want to give you equal footing with everything else going on. I had one engineer who I worked with long term who constantly claimed he couldn't "place" my Status sound, whereas others love it, as it can't be buried, so it becomes a feature. I haven't really done many jobs with my current Stingray crop, but I can tell you that mid way through one job with the 95 2EQ Stingray, a gentleman remarked how pleasant it was to be able to hear all the individual bass notes, instead of a woofly mess. So result, I guess. The lack of subtlety is why I don't use a Status or Stingray for the live tribute show. Here, the Jazz basses come into their element, even the powerful active Elite. I can boost out the parts with the preamp in fast walking bass lines, or I can run passive and gently palm mute for sparser, more subtle ballads. There is definitely a difference between instruments where you 'hear' too much preamp, as opposed to those that quietly get on with boosting the actual sound of the pickups and the wood.

Thanks Dave, It was 75° and sunny. Daryl

Fiasco Jam - The band I decided to unretire for…
AndyTravis replied to AndyTravis's topic in Share Your Music
Unbelievable. Played a decent gig on Friday… After a very drunk guitarist made some very silly comments on Saturday…(aimed at me) This band is dead. life support; drummer and Singer completely sided with me about said silly comments and we’ve recruited from the Basschat ranks for replacement of guitarist/some bass/some keys. New Name…but we’ll retain all socials etc as I ran them.
