I always cut the string at 75mm past the post and that gives me 2-3 turns and I always wind towards the bottom. I also bend a kink in the string and cut as tight as possible to that while keeping it. I was taught that this reduces the chance of the core slipping inside the string. I don't know whether its necessary but its never caused me issues. I generally change my strings about every 3 months to keep them bright.

Nice. What differences do you note between older and newer?

Akai E2 Headrush delay/looper - Price drop - £70 posted
iamtheelvy replied to iamtheelvy's topic in Effects For Sale
Remarkable lack of interest on this classic on both here and the ‘bay. Great delay tones, but one of the most intuitive (if limited in length) looper out there, as used by KT Tunstall and Steve Lawson (and I believe the E1 version on Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood’s pedalboard). Not getting enough use here though, so need to shift it on! -

Black Fender P Player Bass with in beautiful condition. The Player series are a step up from the ordinary! Serial number MX18005295. June 2018 They say: There's nothing more classic than a Fender electric bass, and the Player Precision Bass is as authentic as it gets - genuine Fender style and the rumbling, seismic sound that spawned a thousand imitations. With its smooth playing feel and spotlight-ready style, this thunderous bass is ready to enter the studio or prowl the stage and help show the world your creative vision. It’s been well set up. The truss rod has been adjusted to give a nice low action and is very comfortable to play and has a great tone with a warm punch. The electrics have been sprayed with Contact Spray, so they work as they should with no nasty scratchy sounds from the pots. The frets have been levelled and polished and the intonation is spot on. The neck has been treated with lemon oil so it’s clean and ‘fed’. Free postage No case £550 Chaddesden, Derby DE21 4JJ All proceeds will go towards a charity for the homeless in Derby and a Home for street kids in Bogota, Colombia.

Not sure whether it’s the issue. But, it could be cut fractionally too low on the nut. ,I had a similar issue on the E string of a 4 string short scale. It really stumped my tech as it all technically looked to be correct. The issue was rectified by using a paste and bringing the string up at the nut a very tiny amount. On the face of it, it was all technically within his usual tolerances. But, after trying a few things, he raised this and it completely removed the problem.

Origin Effects BassRig Ampeg B15 Fliptop recreation

Winner winner *insert preferred roast protein* dinner. This is exactly what I’m trying to do with my SV. I’ve been fiddling with the amp out EQ via a Radial JDI and some decent cans. -
Origin Effects BassRig Ampeg B15 Fliptop recreation
Nickthebass replied to Quatschmacher's topic in Effects
How does the BR15 compare to the SV - tonally? I know they’re modelling different amps but how does that translate into a sound (more lows, tighter lows, does one break up more easily than the other etc.) Anyone who can compare a real B15 to a real SVT+fridge feel free to chime in too! 😆 I’m mainly interested in the DI sound with the cab sim on. The SV BassRig is generally always for me but not with huge amounts of overdrive - a little bit of push or break up at most. Tonally I’m normally going for old school supportive punch and clarity. I’m not normally looking for clangy Geddy Lee overdrive. (It drives me crackers that every demo of the SV spends 93.7% of the time driving the nuts off it.) -
I think Jared Followill from Kings of Leon is an incredibly underrated bass player. Especially on the first few albums and personally think ‘Only By The Night’ shows his best playing, even if this isn’t my favourite album. It’s not overly complex stuff but I think what his lines add to the songs melodically is superb. Helps that the band were the reason I started wanting to play music but hey! I’m a fan 🪭

Fenderfever has a sale on with some decent reductions
Belka replied to Clarky's topic in General Discussion
I bought a bass from him last year. Transaction was fine - not a great deal of communication but the bass was packed well and arrived promptly. The setup he had done was very good too. He's a tad pricier than Bass Bros or Bass Direct but those reductions more or less bring him in line with them. -

As a youngish teenager (and being fed a steady supply of singles), the names that immediately come to mind from that period are Martin Gordon (Sparks/Radio Stars), Steve Priest (for the glorious Sweet F*nny Adams/Desolation Boulevard albums) and Jim Lea. Other guys I adore, Pete Vuckovic (3CR), Dan Adriano (Alkaline Trio), Stuart Hill (Shudder To Think), Clemente Sardi (Full Treble/Hawaii Zombies).. there's probably dozens.
